Re: basic setup…

Cannot boot into Startup Manager.
Nor can I re-start into Recovery mode.
I only get startup chime and endless Black Screen (approx 25 min wait); keyboard Caps (green) light responsive.

Any suggestions?
i.e. Need to rollback gfx card before proceeding?

Edit1: I can restart back into 10.14.6 just fine; any workaround suggestions to proceed w Open Core install?
Edit2: Now I can't get newly created EFI partition to mount (in Finder) again? Terminal error msg:

fyi: my boot partition is NVMe
As to me, I have Radeon pro w5700, and use 2 card outputs connected to one monitor and third to second monitor .
At the same time, only one of the outputs shows the boot option, the other monitors remain dark until the system boots.
I know from my own experience that if the csrutil is enabled for some reason (this always happens after resetting the nvram or after each installation of the system or updates).
To load correctly Lilu and Whatevergreen you need to disable the csrutil,
Or you can use the config compiled by Martin Lo (in his config csr disabled automatically).
But if the capslock on the keyboard works, then the system has booted, you can try to enter the password and try to switch the monitor to other outputs one by one
Or may be you have another problem:
I have my second cMP connected to an outdated monitor and I only have a bootscreen
if I have two monitors connected, but as soon as I disconnect the second monitor I just have a black screen
even though I know for sure that the system has booted.
This is a mismatch between screen resolution and system frequency for this monitor.
To work normally on one outdated monitor, I connected an hdmi switcher, then the monitor signal works for me.
Regarding the recovery, cdf described the terminal command to boot in to recovery
MacPro 4.1/5.1, 96Gb samsung RAM, 2Tb crucial nvme, 1Tb nvme 970EvoPlus, TB3 Alpine pcie card, OC 0.8.0, MacOS Monterey (Mojave as recovery only with rx580)

Is your graphics card (the RX 580 mentioned in your signature) flashed for Mac? If not, then you'll have to follow the instructions below the heading "If your Mac has a standard graphics card" (this is what most people have to do).

If Command-R doesn't work, then try the Terminal command from macOS as described in the guide. Unless your Mojave installation is broken, you should be able to get into Recovery. Resetting the NVRAM and choosing your Mojave drive in System Preferences > Startup Disk and rebooting first may help.

No.

Did you verify that disk0s1 is actually your ESP with the "list" command first? The identifier can change from one boot to the next.
Specs in signature all still applicable—
Tried terminal command (as well as third-party-utilities app) Recovery re-boot with same results:
Black Screen [monitor not in standby mode/ Green keyboard (Caps key) responds].

Maybe…?
- My current (10.14) os install not properly installed/ faulty from initial install (years prior)?
- Boot disk permissions?
- Startup extensions?

I cloned current boot partition prior to initiating Open Core install (albeit to SSD sans pcie sled or not native NVMe platform)

Edit: RX 580 never flashed

This. Perhaps you could do a fresh install on an external drive and use that to setup OpenCore. You'll want to keep a good Mojave installation around anyway if ever you need to fix something by booting natively.

I am trying to prepare a rescue CD following guidelines on post #1 and have been trying everything but each time, I get this error when creating the iso :

Code:
MacPro:~ thib$ hdiutil create -size 200MiB -srcfolder OC-CD -format UDTO -fs FAT32 OC-CD.iso

...........could not access /Volumes/OC-CD/EFI/OC/config.plist - Paramètre invalide

hdiutil: create failed - Paramètre invalide

I checked the file with ocvalidate, plist is ok.

I didn't touch permissions on this file, here is what it says

Code:
MacPro:~ thib$ ll OC-CD/EFI/OC/config.plist
-rwxrwxrwx@ 1 thib staff 14K 9 mai 09:17 OC-CD/EFI/OC/config.plist

any idea ?

EDIT: I managed to create the iso without config.plist, then mounted the iso and added config.plist manually in OC. Hope this way of doing does not create any issues.

I do not know really, but maybe the extended attribute (@) is com.apple.quarantine?

Check with ls -l@ OC-CD/EFI/OC/config.plist

In that case it might help to remove it with xattr -d com.apple.quarantine OC-CD/EFI/OC/config.plist

Although the root cause has yet to be identified, this has to do with how the config file is modified prior to creating the CD. Search this thread for “Invalid argument”.

Good. Just double check that all the files are in place after burning the CD.

I have an older version of OpenCore on my MacPro - 0.6.9 from memory - and Mojave is working good and the Mac is very stable. But, as this OS is disappearing fast from the radar of the software I use, I'd like to upgrade to Catalina or Big Sur, whichever is more stable on a MacPro 5,1

I mainly use this machine to edit: at the moment I have three partitions running Mojave, one for Avid Media Composer, one for the Adobe Premiere suite, and the last partition for DaVinci Resolve. I don't use the computer for much else, I have a laptop for my internet browsing/email etc.

So first question is: Big Sur or Catalina?
Second and most important question, since I'm in the OpenCore thread: I downloaded the latest Martin package, 0.8, and haven't installed yet. Looking at the kext folder, I'm amazed! What happened to it? Mine has 3 kexts, the new one has many more! (Wifi, bluetooth, etc). What's the purpose of them? Monterey? I'd rather keep things simple, as simple = stable in my world...

I would opt for Big Sur because Catalina is next in line to be dropped for security updates. As for the apps you use, I'll leave it to others to comment on stability.

It keeps on growing to accommodate the plethora of possible scenarios. If simple is your thing, then I encourage you to create a minimal deliberate setup using post #1. If your wireless hardware is supported, then you should just need one extra kext (ASPP-Override) to update to the current version of Monterey.

Looking at the Kexts folder in 0.8, and doing some research, it seems that I can remove ASPP-Override, BlueToolFixup, Bluetooth-Spoof, FeatureUnlock, RadeonBoost and RadeonSensor if I'm going to stick to Mojave and Big Sur - I have a Vega 54 and I don't need Sidecar

Correct?

Hey guys, just updated to 12.3.1 from 12.0 and I can't seem to get macOS to boot without VMM Flag on, its just a continuous boot loop. Im using MartinLos OC 0.8.0 package.

I have been searching around and did find this to be an issue when 12.3 was released but I believe there is a fix included after OC 0.7.9, is that correct or have I missed something obvious?

Any help would be appreciated!

macOS installed with OC on an SATA SSD in bay 1.
Windows 11 on Sata SSD on a PCIE card.

Well done. It was marked with com.apple.quarantine. Don't know exactly why this happened as soon as I edited the file using BBedit, but I removed the flag using your command, and it was then possible to create an ISO from the folder !

Hey there,

About 2 years ago with this communities help and by following this guide I was able to add Opencore, and run both Catalina and Windows running on my CMP 5,1. Thanks once again for that without this guide and the communities guidance I wouldn't have been able to do that.

I have been happily using my CMP in both 10.15 Catalina and Windows since then but haven't really done anything to update OpenCore or my Mac OS. Now after 2 years I have an incentive to upgrade my MacOS to MacOS Big Sur or Monterey if possible.

I get the prompts to upgrade to Monterey but is it that simple or will I need to make additional changes to OpenCore or the System configuration itself?

if I do need to do more than simple install the new OS and follow simple prompts is there a separate guide you could point me to too follow or a part of this amazing guide that I should follow?

Here are my current system specs if you need any other info let me know and probably let me know how to get that info for you as you can assume I am a little clueless

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide

@RottenCotton: Study post #1. If you haven't touched your OC configuration since Catalina's days, chances are that specific configuration will fail with at least some versions of Big Sur and Monterey. For the latest versions of Monterey you need one particular kext, and the same goes for some versions of Big Sur. All the details are in post #1.

Yeah if the last time they updated was 2 years ago then they should just redo their config and update the opencore files
