ha ha that is exactly why 16e is designed like this. Having a price closed to all iPhones more expensive than it, then people like you would think: ho, paying so much still lack so many functions, why not buy regular 16 or whatever. Then the pro is similar price as plus, why not buy the pro mix

ha ha

Yup exactly. This phone is designed as a cheap starting price to get you in the door.

Dirty tactic but it works. Fully aware of it. The entire Apple product stack is that way.

Someone above posted that the 16e is a “nice phone”.

Sure. But it could have been an amazing phone for maybe 1% increase in price, or Apple eating a couple of dollars in margin.

Making up crap like “users buying this type of phone don’t use wireless charging” when the wireless charging on such phones sucked is deliberately missing the point and thinking customers are stupid.

I could've stomached $500
To remind you and the $499 club that the SE3 at 128GB Costed brand new at $479 so please don’t expect to think that all the upgrades that the 16e has over the SE as well as a much more modern redesign and FaceID/OLED Screen and future proofing for $20 More 🤦‍♂️

16e’s starting price is the same as the 14’s for the same amount of storage types

I’m getting so tired of this argument. It’s utter nonsense. The prices of these ‘upgrades’ over the original SE are hardly any more expensive now.

The MacBook Air didn’t drastically increase in price when it got a Retina display, simply because those displays were produced in high enough numbers at that point.

With your logic every single technological improvement in a device translates into a higher price. It simply doesn’t. So stop this nonsensical argumentation.

For Android phone, this 16e hardware specs is a $199 phone. $400 is for Apple logo and iOS.

I had a 15 Pro which unfortunately suffered a terrible accident with no apple care in place 🙈

For the last few months I've been using an iPhone 8 lol Just placed an order for a black iPhone 16e and let me tell you I cannot wait!!

Some people love to tell others how to spend their money. Buy what works best for YOU.
True! And that's what I'm doing with the 16e. I'd love to be able to buy the top end 16 Pro, but at nearly double the price it's not happening! And I don't want to buy an iPhone 15 instead as I've seen some suggesting as an alternative to the 16e.

I just purchased a 1 month old 16 Pro from someone who decided they wanted a Max. I saved $200. I thought it was a good deal but, if I hadn’t done it, I probably would have gotten the 16e. Depending on how you use your phone and what features are most important to you is what should drive your decision. It’s all subjective.

If you're motivated by specs, especially value relative to specs, android will always be the way to go. iOS is proven to get a lot of performance out of lesser specs though. I hate people claiming that one of the ecosystems is superior to the other. They are different. I often wish I could try out some of the cool android phones out there, but it just doesn't make sense for me.
I've dabbled in Android from time to time, but never stuck to it. My first smart phone was Android way back when because iPhone only had 2G data service.

I previously used the OnePlus 8T and found it to be quite good. Another one from the brand should be similarly capable.

I agree with what you are saying. It's definitely NOT more expensive today to implmement these upgrades as it would have been four or five years ago.

As I have said before I think Apple was squeezed into a tight spot here. If they had kept the iPhone 16E price the same as the outgoing SE model, it would have made people realize just how much the 16 is overpriced to begin with, and the 16 Pro would have looked even worse by comparison. The 16E would have been almost half the price of a base 16, with really only a few extra features to differentiate it from the more expensive iPhone.

In essence Apple would have been devaluing their own 'current' iPhone lineup.

Not sure Apple wanted to tackle that mountain.

People say the main problems of 16e are overpriced a lot, MagSafe and super slow wireless charging speed.

-overpriced: yes it’s specs is $199 range Android phone, but cheap Android phone has no real serious Android updates, hardware would be broken and battery is dead after like a year average. iPhone can be really used for 7 years without problem.
Apple can charge any price they want, SE3 design and screen size are just so outdated so basically two different products.

-MagSafe: Suppose to use a case if you are on a budget to buy the cheapest iPhone. Phone owns MagSafe would not work at all or almost doesn’t exist with a case. So finally you need a MagSafe case anyway. Even S25 Ultra has no magnet on his back which is kind of funny.

-slow wireless charge speed. At least it has wireless charging, Apple gives out all basic stuff for its cheapest phone is a breakthrough already. No one would buy more expensive models if Apple fully gives everything in cheapest model.

Yah like 1%.
Sure.

Well, I won't be able to pin a percentage on it I guess, but 99% of iPhone users doing much beyond messaging, music, podcasts, phone calls, taking pics and some other pretty low resource stuff (quick App interactions) -- feels high

I'm very much a power user with technology and that's just about all I do with my iPhones.
