@Analog Kid why not write a detail expose on that if you've got the time

I kinda did, and then posted it to the forums of the only user community I'm a member of and care about.

I don't have accounts with any other social media sites, so I'm not going to post stuff anywhere else. It's just not worth the time and misery. I spent more hours than I should have that day shaking my fist at YouTube. Every now and then when it's topical, I link back to it because I think that even though it's a few years old at this point it shows that the problem with MaxTech is how they think and operate, not just an opinion I disagree with.

MaxTech has over one million subscribers and rarely more than 100k views. Its a dying channel because they try to chase the lockdown numbers with clickbait titles and thumbnails and overstimulated their audience by doing this constantly. They’re not going to recover from that.

So DONT MAKE THESE MISTAKES! Just unsubscribe and move on.

Do you mind sharing this with me ? I'd like to go more in-depth.

I was a huge fan of max tech, but now he’s just a clickbait troll. It’s getting super annoying , what do you guys feel ?

He created a video now where he said the apple event is announced , my heart skipped a beat only to find out it’s fake after frantically searching through macrumours.

This is very disingenuous. To add that he deletes any comment that calls him out on being clickbait
MaxBait…

I think the flow of money with these more popular tech channels almost inevitably leads to them becoming just glorified ads. As soon as they grow enough, we start seeing new studio tours, sponsored clothing, clickbait etc. It's been happening for a long time now and you can see it with many channels, they have the same roundup of videos whenever a product launches, it's like a checklist of videos for every phone that comes out.
When someone like MKBHD gets an interview with Federighi or Cook, you know the reviewing part of his work has gone out the window.

For a good while now, whenever I was actually pleased to watch a tech Youtube video, it was from Samuel Nam.

The major problem is all the videos that are just advertisements for a vacuum or some other product that I don’t want. Used to have some good insights and still does, but is it worth the trash also included…. I like Marques Brownlee and Luke Miani. I feel I can trust them, but Max Tech sometimes has information from other sources and he makes some conclusions that are often correct. He got one right about why there was no M3 Ultra based on the die not having interconnect and the reason was that Apple had to use the more costly chip fabrication method. Now looks like back on track for M4 Ultras next year???

He's a shill, like most youtubers.

I bought a Mac Mini 16GB based on some of his tests that said 16GB is enough for Lightroom... lol
I also think that “Logic Pro benchmark” is complete BS. It’s actually not an accurate way to represent what’s happening. Same with that Lightroom thing. How about you actually have a REAL photo editing or music production project that you did. Show people THAT! Not some weird obscure benchmark. UGHHHH!!!

You have a good point, but I think the source of annoyance is, for at least the OP and I, that his videos are sometimes deceiving.

What do you find deceiving? I mean when he has the devices I think he does a good job.

In the Logic benchmark, or his channel in general?

The Logic benchmark is an inaccurate way to represent the number of tracks a computer can play, and the system consumption. It is just one track repeated over and over. Unless you're working on a really avant-garde piece (which I encourage, but that's beside the point), when would you ever do that? This extends beyond the Logic benchmark specifically, keep in mind.

I think the deceiving part of his channel is when he puts a fake Apple event in the thumbnail.

They always fudged numbers, didn’t know difference between RAM/ Swap speeds. Dude was recommending larger SSD over more RAM. Your RAM will always be faster than SSD, need more RAM get more RAM.
They hopped on the massively popular mindset that the M2 base SSD was "extremely slow and horrible". Nobody buying a base unit would have cared get real. But everyone online was in a frenzy about it saying how horribly slow Apple's SSD was.

Headline really could be “YouTube is annoying click bait”

Basically anyone I ever used to love on there almost always has devolved down to clickbait tactics of some form.
That is a requirement for the algorithm to work in your favor. Otherwise your video will be dead on arrival the minute you post it. Obviously there is a line. Bit click bait in general is an actual requirement if you want to be successful.

Not true .

There’s a reason all the best performing channels with a loyal fan base don’t have clickbait . Whereas a lot of channels that have fallen from grace are filled with clickbait

It is true, I manage several channels. Engagement is HIGHLY important. What gets engagement? Click bait titles.

If you were successful with it , we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

There’s a reason small channels do it, the ones who just can’t seem to cut it into the big leagues

What? You are saying if I am successful I shouldn't be on this site? What the heck? I am voicing my years of research, training, and use of the product here. More clicks get your video out to more people. What drives more clicks? Click bait and interesting titles.

I help manage 10 different channels from my clients. They were getting NOWHERE until we made click bait titles, then the views skyrocketed, leading to their subscribers increasing and they got more engagement.

Like I said there is a line. There is click bait to draw you in, and click bait that is factually false. The topic at hand is the bad version.

There was literally a good 3 hour discussion/training/Q&A session I went to about the different between good and bad click bait. Why you should use good click bait.

clickbait will only get you so far , unlucky for your clients they’ve just about reached a false ceiling which is truly a shame.

This is besides the point. Max creating a thumbnail which says” Apple event confirmed for 29th Oct 2024” was just blatant lies and him taking his audience for a ride.

Good title and thumbnails are literally the ONLY thing a user sees at first glance. You need something to draw them in. They didn't reach a false ceiling. Since implementing "GOOD"....again...."GOOD" click bait tactics, they broke their previous "false ceiling" because they were getting ZERO traction. Now their are continuing to grow exponentially where as before they actually DID have a ceiling.

I have repeatedly said that this example is a "BAD" click bait and is the wrong way to handle it.

.....

When you are stuck at only 100 subscribers for years, then take a course on the GOOD click bait and now are in the thousands in the matter of months? Yes......this works.

You are making the point. If you are stuck at 0, you need to change something. People weren't even CLICKING the damn videos due to the titles and thumbnails.
