They spent some time with me discussing the previous USB 2.0 issue (I provided them with a ton of info and thread links) and then I had a horrendous experience with an apple-authorised service and complained to them about it. Since then they have never responded. I also tweeted to them a couple of times about this new issue but never got any response. I do not expect anything from Apple support but perhaps making more noise about the current problem will lead to a fix faster (if ever).

Chiming in to report the same issue with the CalDigit TS3+. I own a 2020 13" Macbook Pro on 10.15.6 and unplugging the thunderbolt cord during sleep and sometimes while it is awake causes an immediate restart. SO FRUSTRATING!! Will help report the issue to as many people as possible to help get this resolved.

Same issues with Big Sur latest beta.

I am also experiencing this issue. I have a 16" MBP (10.15.6) & CalDigit TS3+. Anecdotally, I use Bootcamp to do gaming in Windows from time to time and have not had any crashes there, although I don't run Windows everyday all day, which leads me to think it is definitely macOS at fault. But to prove it out, I am going to try running bootcamp for a few days straight to see if I can replicate the issue there as well, it may help rule out the hardware as the problem.

It is definitely a frustrating issue.

Have you guys tried calling AppleCare and bugging them that way?

Similar issue here. I have a 16" MBP (10.15.6) and CalDigit TS3+ (44.1). The computer intermittently lags for 10+ seconds (hogging the CPU and spiking memory pressure in the process) when I dock. I saw a kernel panic yesterday. Zero issues with a Dell Latitude 5501 & Win 10 on the dock.

The 16" has to enable the dGPU when running external displays whereas the 13" does not, but it sounds like this isn't the issue? Apple support blamed the 3rd party peripherals.

I called CalDigit yesterday and they said it's a known MacOS bug affecting their docks, the competitors, and the LG Ultrafine 4K/5K displays. Something about video over Thunderbolt, they can't fix it, and that I need to wait for Big Sur. Ugh.

@drxcm
Yeah, seems to be the same problem as the LG Ultrafine also uses Thunderbolt 3 and not USB-C. As this problem is really frustrating, most if the time I am not using my Thunderbolt Dock but my USB-C Monitor with USB devices (also Logitech unifying receiver) - this works without issues. I have not tested yet the method provided by asv56kx3088 - so maybe worth a try (will do when I have time).
Sadly, I cannot connect my monitor to the MacBook today using this method... So we're back to square one..
But, hey, there's another thread about this: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...tected-after-sleep-mbp-13-2020.2252150/unread

Exactly the same problem as OP on a 2020 13" MBP, interestingly on my 2018 13" MBP this issue does NOT occur.

I use the exact same dock for both and switch between them (personal and work devices). The dock I use is an HP Thunderbolt G2, both macs are running Catalina 10.15.6

Did not have this issue using the same dock on 10.15.5 so its a .6 issue for sure. Very annoying!!!

Well, per my earlier comment, I am both happy and sad to report that within Windows via Bootcamp I experienced 0 crashes whilst connected to my CalDigit TS3+ dock, etc for a greater than 24hr period.

But when I went back to macOS to do work, it almost immediately crashed and restarted.

I am convinced that the issue is within macOS software related to how it handles Thunderbolt3 + Sleep and/or connect/disconnect.

I have since removed the CalDigit dock from my setup and am connected directly to my monitor via USB-C for nearly 2 days now and have had no crashes. I would love to use the dock again if Apple can figure things out.

(Disclaimer: This is not a scientific study by any means, just my experience.) ?‍♂️

2020 MBP 13” user here (i7,32GB,1TB) with caldigit TS3+ which I’ve had for 2 months. No problems running all sorts of different devices off the TS3+. Never had a crash other than one dodgy SD card which necessitated force quit of FCPX.

Sleep/wake works as expected. Mix of usb and TB3 devices hanging off the back of the TS3+.

The only thing I can think of is that I did update the TS3+ firmware when I first got it. Not sure why I have been spared this particular problem.

i assume your macos is not 10.15.6. All users with problems are those that are running latest official macos.

Actually I have been on 10.15.6 since it released. No problems with my Caldigit TS3+. As I mentioned I have quite a bit hanging off it (Logitech BRIO 4K, Blue Yeti mic, 2TB T5 SSD, 1TB Pluggable thunderbolt 3 SSD, ethernet, 4TB USB3 HDD) and I use a 4K USB-C monitor (Dell u3219q) via a BlackMagic eGPU. I typically sleep the MBP when not using and have never experienced any problem waking it. No crashes or devices unexpectedly disconnecting. Fingers crossed it stays this way.

The Caldigit TS3+ is running firmware 44.1.

Same here - I have a 2020 13" i7 MBP. Connected to an elgato pro dock. 2 LG displays and various USBs connected to that. When disconnecting the dock I'd say 90% of the time it causes the MBP to hard reset and reboot. Also another strange issue I didn't have with previous 2016 MBP in same set up - is my logitech wireless mouse dongle sometimes just wont activate - ie no mouse movement, so I have to restart in order for it to work.

Fans go crazy too of course but hey ho - it only cost £3k so what do I expect lol.

There are both 8th gen and 10th gen Intel CPU 2020 models and the 8th gen is the "most" base model, basically same as last year but with the new keyboard.

ah cool @antipodean - if i get you correctly - your display is not connected to DisplayPort nor Thunderbolt port (usb-c to displayport cable) BUT via thunderbolt port on eGPU directly to the laptop OR diireclty to TB port on Caldigit dock ?
Maybe in that scenario ... bug introduced in 10.15.6 does not manifest but all other people had their monitors connected to either Displayport on Caldigiti dock or (i have tried that since my monitor is USB-C capable as well) to Thunderbolt port on Caldigit ?

That is correct. My display is connected (via eGPU) to a left side TB port. The dock is connected to a right side TB port. I set it up this way to make full use of the two separate thunderbolt busses. This way the SSDs aren’t competing for bandwidth with the eGPU.
I haven’t tested it extensively with the monitor connected via the caldigit TB3 output and definitely not with 10.15.6. Maybe that is the explanation?

I was thinking maybe this issue wouldn’t effect my 2020 8th gen as its basically last years model. Don't want to buy the Caldigit until this issue is sorted. Starting thinking if i would have this issue in the first place.

Sadly the problem is still present in BigSur beta 6. It is truly infuriating. Either Apple doesn't care or doesn't seem to be able to fix it.

I have installed latest update - which specifically mentions it addresses some WiFi issues and some iCloud drive issues. As i am not home for another 10 days, I can't test if Apple has through fantastic grace and client's focus or through asking few developers to use Thunderbolt docks/monitors addressed the issue.

Version is: 10.15.6 (19G2531)

Hopefully one of you tries it and let us know if after only a month or two Apple fixed the issue :)

thank you !!!

Same issue here with 2020 MBP 13" i5 and CalDigit USB-C Pro Dock. Was working fine before the latest update.
