I played an hour of Need for Speed on mine and the battery only went down to 93% - the same thing on my iPhone would probably have drained the battery down to 70%.

I love this thing:) I"ve been surfing the net for 35 minutes and am still @ 100 percent battery.

I haven't wanted to post and jinx it, but I'm a similar scenario. Just being at 100% for so long is some sort of bizarre cheap thrill.

I'll +1 to this post.

everybody who has played with my iPad is just amazed at just how long the battery last. Last night my cousins and I went to starbucks and spent almost 2 hours using the iPad (gaming and browsing online) and the Battery looked like we hadn't even used it.

I can attest, it really is nice to have a device this powerful and still hold a charge.

I agree. Been playing movies,, music , games all day from 7 am. Lent it out to friends here at work who were doing god no's what with it, and as I write this post I'm at 62%.

I watched all 5 episodes of V on the ABC app, and I got from 100% to 86% and that was about 200min of video brightness was set 25-30% using heaphones.

Ps: I love this ipad

Lent it out to friends? You are way more trusting than I am. I wouldn't let it out of my sight. ;)

Yah, I wasn't worried about it getting stolen and if they scratched it or broke it, it's getting replaced with 3G model anyway. This is the wife's and she wants to return it. She can't stand not having the net on the go.
Since last post I've dropped to 60%.

I noticed that my iPad does not show Usage like my iPhone (found in Settings). Anyone else notice this and wonder why?

Outstanding Battery Life

Let me start by prefacing my use of this device.

I typically like to have a laptop hanging around the house somewhere so that I can have easy access to the internet if I want to check something on the net or check my email. The netbook filled this need but there was still something lacking. Smallish keyboard, ackward viewing angles and not 'instant" on.

I received my ipad as a gift on Friday the 9th and let it charge for a few hours (came at 100%) Started using it around the house that evening. This morning when I went to check my email the battery meter still reads at 30%. That puts it at 4 days and counting without requiring a charge.

The ipad has definitely impressed me even as a 1st gen device. I can see this niche market growing as competitors try to emulate apple's success. While this does not completely remove my need for a laptop, I am now able to get rid of two laptops that have around the house :D

I agree. I almost don't want to upgrade to the 3G iPad because I know the battery life won't be as good as on the wifi model.

Ive been getting about an average of 12 hours outta mine when continually surfing and using apps for long periods of time so I am happy as can be with it

Don't wait until it's dead to charge. Lithium batteries last longer and perform better the more often they are charged.

Battery life is amazing! Without use, it sits in sleep mode and the battery per cent does not go down at all. This will take getting used to as I have to charge my iPhone 3GS every night and sometimes I even put it in the radio dock at work to give it a jolt.

What also amazes me with the iPad is that it does NOT generate any heat what so ever.

I can't keep my hands off this thing.

A 3g iPad doesnt amaze me anymore because I have enough apps to keep me productive during down time, if any. Theres Free wifi all over the place in my area. With an unchained iphone in the mix...... I'm always connected when needed.

I dont think the 3G version will drain the battery faster than the normal wifi version, 3G is just another transmitter/receiver just like wifi, they just use a different frequency. If you have a bad ATT signal then the transmitter will try to boost the power of the trasmitter wich can cause your battery to drain faster, in the other hand my iphone drains the battery faster on wifi than on 3G.

Agree on the battery life. I've used it regularly every day since getting it on Friday, and have yet to get below 60%. Really impressive.
