Anybody else notice how the battery stays at 100% for a good long while before it begins to show the discharge?
Based on how long the battery lasts, each percent should be around 6-9 minutes. Is it staying at 100% longer than that?
Yep, it'll stay at 100% for a good 30 minutes.
Anyone know if we need to let the battery drain and then charge? Or is it fine to charge whenever? Thanks!
That means your battery should be calibrated. Let it run to 0%, let it stay uncharged for awhile and recharge and keep it charged at 100% for awhile. The same goes for the OP. If your battery is not calibrated, it could be at 0% even if it has some juice left.

How much loss are you all seeing when the iPad is in sleep mode but not plugged in? e.g., overnight.
I'm seeing basically no loss (0-1%), but I've also noticed my clock doesn't appear to keep time during these periods. I lost 7.5 hours last night and had to sync the iPad to fix it it. But hey, almost no battery loss. Heh.
That is not a particularly great idea. Some people seem to think because Lithiums don't have the memory effect, that they are indestructable, nothing could be further from the truth. Lithiums are quite fragile.
The more time Lithium batteries spend at extremes, the more it shortens battery life. If discharged too low lithiums can become immediately damaged, but circuitry will shut down any lithium device before this point, but if you then leave it sit for long period of time in this state, it can discharge further by trickle or self discharge. I killed a Sony PDA battery this way. Ran battery down and let it sit a week. It barely held a charge after this and it was only about 18 months old.
I am not suggesting that you emulate that, but avoid purposefully pushing extremes for no reason at all. Especially don't deplete to zero and leave it sitting for some period of time, just to calibrate the meter.

Then why does Apple advise people to do this? In this support document they say to run it to 0% and let it sleep for five hours for The MacBooks.
It does let you recalibrate the battery, but it is still harsh treatment for a Lithium.
I would only do this rarely if the battery meter was way off.
bytor is 100% correct with his reasoning. apple is also correct. its recommended to only run the batteries to 0% every 30+ charges, this is to calibrate and ensure that you are getting the correct readings from the computer - not to make the battery perform better for youhttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490

yes give it a little bit, maybe a month or so. probably a good idea to keep vague recordings of the times that you use it, and the activities performed as well.Weird. Got 12 hours or so when i first got it on Saturday but now it seems like I'm only getting 8 or 9. Just now i watched ABC video and it dropped 12% in 25 minutes.
Should i give it some time before i bring it to apple?
nice jobI've been doing this several times a month on my two year old Macbook and according to coconut battery app my battery is still at 93%.
to be honest, its better to keep it plugged in. once the battery is fully charged it wont keep charging at all, so no damage can occur to it. its still a good idea to give it a cycle every now and then (more then once a week at least).Would it be better for the battery to keep it on the dock or plugged in, if possible, while using it? Or to work off battery? If not in use, would it be bad to leave it on a plugged in dock? Finally, any thoughts on if it should be powered completely down ever? Or can i always just leave it in standby?
Well i have been using mine for the past 2 days with about 80% brightness and i have streamed videos and listened to music, played an hour of apps and surfed the web. Also my emails are being pushed every 15 minutes - also found out that even when the iPad it on "sleep" mode the wifi does not trun off and emails are still getting pushed! Sweet! Unlike the iPhone when only being used with wifi after you lock it, it will turn off wifi.
And how much battery do i have left after all this?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
30%!!!![]()
