I did a restore and I haven't had an issue since. Very strange...
EDIT: Nevermind, same problems as before...
EDIT 2: I talked to my friend who also has an iPad and compared differences. I changed my router security from WEP to WPA and haven't had a connection drop or password issue since.

I think I've got a fix for this. I was having the same problem at my university, which uses a page to get your username and password. I turned off autofill for all fields and passwords, and I emptied cookies cache and history. Worked for me the next time. It kind of sucks that we can't use those features, but hopefully apple will have a real fix out soon and things will be back to normal.

Will definitely try this tomorrow. So far I have had no wifi issues at my house, but like many others, I arrived at school today ready to bust out my iPad and start browsing the blogosphere in between classes, only to find my browser locking up during the login process. I really hope that this is simply a software glitch and Apple will fix it within the next week or so. If it's faulty hardware, then I'll definitely be waving my Apple Care in Apple's face.

Your the second person on here that has had success with restoring. It's almost as if Apple released a silent update, similar to what they did with the iPhone 3G when it had a slight yellow tinge to the screen. Can't think of why they wouldn't publicize the fix though, considering as to how many people are reporting problems.

Edit:
Looks like I posted to soon. LOL

For those that are having connection drop outs and passwords that aren't being saved, try changing your router's security from WEP to WPA, it fixed my issues.

Were u having issues of getting kicked off or was your signal going all over the place?

I have a Linksys WRT400N. Went to the Linksys forums and searched for iPhone dropped signal and found the following settings. I was getting dropped both on the iPad and my 3GS before making these changes.

Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz
change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz

Under the Advanced Wireless Settings...
Change the Beacon Interval to 75
Fragmentation Threshold to 2304
RTS Threshold to 2307

...and Click on Save Settings

I was getting dropped every 15-20 minutes originally. Not a single drop since I made those changes. I am going to suggest going to the support website for your router and seeing if that community has settings that might work better for you. It is totally rock solid and fast now.

THANK YOU! Was having the same problem, couldn't hold a connection on my Netgear Wireless N router. Went in and checked and both the Fragmentation Threshold and the RTS were about 30-40 points higher than these settings. So I set them to 2304 and 2307 as you describe, and now it works great. Not one dropped connection! Problem solved for me!!

I seem to only be getting 1.5M speeds on mine while my network is 40 Mips.

Does anyone have a solution to slow speeds ?

[edit] nvm. I was using the wrong website DO'H! [/edit]

This is total bull that people should be
having these problems.

Is this hardware or software related? Can
anyone take a guess? Cause if it cannot be
fixed by software then I need to know so I
can return this thing to the store.

I just started having a wifi issue, it's weird but don't know if its happened before as I'm just now paying attention to it.

I turned my brightness all the way down, put it to sleep and when I woke it up it wasn't connected to my network, turned brightness up a bit, put it to sleep and when it woke up it was connected. Tried this a couple of times and same result every time. Also turned brightness off, did a reset and no connection when it came back on, turned up brightness, reset and connected when it came back on.

Weird!

I'm not having any problems at home really - aside from the problems we have with our lousy wifi to begin with... it's on campus for me. My iPad won't get past the log-on menu. Is this something I need to waste my time with at IT Services or do you think it will be be fixed by Apple? Either way something needs to give...this is one of the major reasons I bought the iPad.

Just did this and it worked. I agree - hope they find a solution soon, but I'll take this for a while. :)

Worked for me too. I can't tell you how happy I am. My boss asked me to bring the iPad in so he could see it, and I was majorly embarrassed that I could not show it off to him. After trying to log on for dozens of times, this simple tip worked. Thanks!

Vidsmart,

I am sure I could figure it out once I got
into settings but I am guessing that the fix
you described all gets done in SETTINGS -> BROWSER?

Yes--SETTINGS -> SAFARI-->AUTOFILL-->NAMES & PASSWORDS OFF

I'm back to feeling the euphoria I felt on Sat when I brought the IPad home (where my wireless has been fine.)

I found the only thing i needed to do was clear the cookies. Let's see if it keeps up that way.

iPad Wifi Authentication Problems

For those of you having trouble authenticating to your wireless network with your iPad when other devices work (i.e., iPhone, iPod Touch), check the characters used in your WPA password. I found the iPad had problems authenticating to a wireless network when using non alpha-numeric characters.

For example these passwords work:

1password
password1

This password did not:

password%

My iPhone and Touch had no problem with the more complex password, but the iPad did.

Just to throw in my own reference point, I have the iPad connected to the "N only" radio on my Netgear 3700 and have not had any connection or signal quality issues other than a momentary loss of connection when waking the iPad up after it's been sitting there unused for a long time.

N is pretty much worthless on the iPad. It only connects at 39mbit, max, whereas it connects at 54mbit on my G band (Time Capsule Dual Band).

Seems kind of strange, non?

No one anymore should be using WEP, it's just not really that secure. I would recommend everyone use WPA, even better WPA2.

Since I havent got an ipad yet (roll on 24th!), can existing users try to change their wireless encryption on thier router between AES and PSK. I had similair issues with a windows platform laptop with a N class wireless adapter.

Dont bother using WEP since its crap. Use WPA-AES or WPA-PSK. Keep a basic password (6-8 characters) and try changing between the 2. Try to notice the difference in signal strength.

You may also utilise WPA2 AES, WPA2 PSK or 802.1x (radius authentication) and try to notice normal or slow speeds.

Okay the whole restore process worked with alot of you guys and allowed you to connect to the university wifi system. However, I have also done the same thing and just walked into class only to discover I'm still having the same problem. Do I have some sort of defect?? This is really annoying me :-((((
