After spending 45 minutes looking up various Sim unlock codes for tmobile, repeatedly asking my sister if she had a SIM lock code on her old phone, and contacting tmobile on christmas eve and getting unlock codes for the phone...nothing worked, and I gave up.

My sister (which this was her phone I was setting up) see's my frustration, asked what the problem was. I informed her, she is SOL on the phone because her sim (1 out of 3 I set up that night) had a password on it that I couldnt unlock. She then grabs the phone, types in 4 numbers...and said "Woops, guess my phone password carried over to this one" (She set up her own sim password, and thought she set one up for her old device only)

iPhone 2.2 - Unlock with Turbo Sim - No data connection HELP PLEASE

Hi. I hope someone can help me. I am using a turbo sim to allow me to use my t-mobile service. I am able to call and text, but I am not able to get on the internet (maps, weather, etc). It was working last week. I was using the wap.voicestream.com; username: user; password: wap. On Christmas day it just stop working for me. It tells me that "the connection to the server failed"

Anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to jailbreak my phone or something?

Please help! Please!

I have tried this APN already, to humor my self I tried it again, still no connection do I need cydia or installer or something? I'm totally clueless about all of this

Why not just call T-Mobile? They'll be more than happy to tell you the correct APN settings. They're not the same for every user. For some mysterious reason; for some mysterious reason, there are numerous APNs and each user has a "right" one they should be using.

I called T-Mobile and they told me to try internet2.voicestream.com or internet3... neither work. Does anyone know if I need to jailbreak my phone in order for the various APNs to work? Help is still needed...
 
I am assuming you also told t mobile that you are using an iphone so that they can assign the correct data to your phone.

If you were using any other phone before. You need to update your new phone with t mobile.

You can't get data till that has been done.

No, you don't need to jailbreak. You should be able to just put the APN in and away you go.

So one other possibility ... is it at all possible that your issues are due to a problem with your TurboSIM? Is it possible to try re-coding it? (Or perhaps wait a couple of days and use the iPhone 3G unlocking tool that the Dev Team promised for Wednesday)?

I have t-mobile $5.99 data and use the setting epc.tmobile.com and it is working fine. My phone is jailbroken but i dont think that makes a difference. The unlock is what makes EDGE work for you. There is a tmobile hack you can get if you jailbreak it but i dont use the hack using the APN setting that i listed.

Doesnt hurt to try the hack though. My internet didnt work for a day once but worked after that. If yours internet was working fine for a while i dont see why it still isnt so maybe it will come back as well. Id say a reboot could solve the problem but ill assume you tried that already.

T-Mobile isnt going to be any help. You already are using the APN's that should work and all they will most likely tel you is that you need to get their $19.99 unlimited service. You dont and if you already have the $5.99 data pack, dont give it up or you will never get it back. Their cheapest now is $9.99 and has data limitations.

Yea I thought about that. The data rep that I talked to previously had an iPhone. He said it could be my TurboSIM and that he's known them to work for a while and then stop working. I want to take my sim out and put it back in and see if that does anything, but it is so hard to establish a steady connection through the TurboSIM. It has to be placed just right. Chances are, I guess, it wouldn't work anyway since i'm able to call and text?

So my next question to everyone is, how do I go about jailbreaking my phone and establishing an internet connection? What exactly does jailbreaking do for the iPhone? Do you know anything about Installer Apps Jailbreak 2.2 I think it is made by the Dev Team. They are producing an update for this on Wednesday? What about Cydia? I do not know much about the iPhone (it's full capabilities), much less the term jailbreak.... help.

Jailbreaking allows you to add applications that you cant get from the app store. Hundreds of different themes, you can get a video recorder and MMS program so you can send and recieve pictures. There are just numerous other things you can do to the phone to make it better for you. You will just click on Cydia when the jailbreak is done and go through numerous sections of different applications that you want to asdd to your phone.
Cydia is the supported program now for jailbreaking. Installler isnt really used anymore but it will still have an icon for it.

If you have a 3G , read things carefully before you jailbreak and dont update your firmware through iTunes or you will not be able to unlock it till the dev team comes up with a software hack. And even that might not work.

2G you can do the unlock and jailbreak easily and have no worries. I dont like the turbosim unlock myself. Much prefer the software.

Which phone do you have? First gen or 3G? and what firmware is it?

Here are the download packages and instructions you need if you have a 2.2 firmware. It tells you step by step how to do it.
NOTE:

That is for the 2g Phone though.

Here is the restore files for the 3G if you have that one. It also has files for earlier firmwares for both 2G and 3G.
 
1st gen has the silver alluminium back, and 3G is either black or White...

Sounds like you have a 3G...

AND....

You say you had a TILT before the iPhone... Have you TOLD T-MOBILE you now have an iPhone????

Like I said, until you do, and they change it in THEIR system, you wont get data........................................................

I went from a Sidekick, to a G1, to my iPhone, and each time I had to call them to tell them I had switched... The tech guy I talked to said this must be done specifically for data, and for each different phone...

you posted a link to the process and was a very nice one but a couple o things. First i am a Mac user.. do you have the mac link?

Also i am already jailbroken and have version 2.1. Now i have a lot of software on the phone as it is. is there a way to upgrade withought loosing my data. all i see on the subject so far has been old news and things seem to be changed to often to count stuff from aug.

The reason i am wanting to do this is that my Edge (first gen iphone) stoped working about 2 weeks ago and have no idea why. i thought to see if upgrading would help?? any thoughts or reasons to upgrade?

i see notes to go to settings, general, network, and from there in to a section to add some stuf to make it work unfortunatly in that i only have
Data Roaming
VPN,
Wi-Fi.

no other options. i had used the tmob edge have to get it working the last time.

AND i did call tmob and they did have my correct phone listed.

I called T-Mobile, and the tech guy that I spoke with said it is not so much that they have to change any settings with the data to allow it to work. They have an APN, internet3.voicestream.com, which I already have tried. In addition to data roaming on and 3G off. Still nothing. The guy told me that he can see where my phone is not connecting to data, and that he was going to try to reset the connection to the phone. So he's done that, now I am waiting for my connection to be restored.

So from what I hear there is not specific settings to a phone if you have the unlimited data plan (which I have). It only gets specific when you have a blackberry, or sidekick (had before my tilt) since they have their own specific data plan. Everything else, like a Tilt, I-PAQ, etc. works on the same data plan and settings as the iPhone... so it is not my settings, but possibly I may need a data reset. Stay tuned.

If you jailbreak your phone you dont need to tell T-Mobile anything. I didnt. I just used the epc.tmobile.com and it just worked.

When i did try to ask them a question about the data service that i have ($5.99 t zone package) they said i needed to get the $19.99 unlimited interent to work with an iPhone.. This was before they switched their data services and ill assume they just didnt want me to keep the cheap one since it went away, but i told them i didnt want that and it just keeps working with the cheap service.

Macinstructions

Files you need for 2.2 are near the top of the instructions. It gives you choice of 2G and 3G so you are covered for either phone.

As for losing youor data, i dont think you will but im tryig to remember. I dont recall losing mine and you are jailbreaking again with this. When i did it, i updated to 2.2 from ituines and it remained unlocked but i had to jailbreak it again but the first jailbreak i tried from the dev team download wouldnt go through all the way so i had to restore and it did wipe out everything.
I used iclarified's download and it worked great. I think you will be ok. You arent doing a restore.

NOTE: I dont use a Mac so i dont know about step 11 where it asks for a password. I didnt have to do that.

I am going to try to jailbreak break my iPhone. A person sold me their iPhone so I don't have any applications that is worth keeping, they do have a lot of songs that I would like to keep, but I guess it really isn't a loss since I didn't buy them. When I try to copy it tells me I'm not an authorized computer. If you know a way I can get them in my iTunes Library, please let me know. I'm going to attempt to jailbreak my iPhone now wish me luck!

You wont lose your songs from jailbreaking it.

Try doing a backup of your songs and then putting them on disks. Then you can load them back in your itunes library. Use DVD disks and it wont take nearly as many to put the songs on.

As for itunes, try downloading a free app in your itunes.

Download a free application and sync it with your iphone. That should attach your account to the iphone because right now, the itunes store on your phone is tied to the other guy.
That way you can get stuff from the store from your phone.
 
Will I ever get data connection... HELP PLS

Hello again! I've been so frustrated that I gave up for a while on trying to establish connection with my iPhone. So I have jailbroken my iPhone. I think.... I chose to onlly install Cydia instead of both Cydia and Installer. I didn't think I needed Installer if I'm going to be using Cydia. Maybe I didn't properly jailbreak my iPhone because I didn't dowload Installer too.... I have the Cydia icon and it gave me the indication that I had properly done so. Maybe not? Any suggestions? If a do not use the TurboSIM, it will tell me invalid sim. If it was jailbroken wouldn't I be able to drop the TurboSIM?

Any suggestions on things to check next, would be greatly appreciated. I checked with T-Mobile, they seen where I had voice connection, but not data. They did a reset of my network settings from their end. Needless to say nothing changed. I popped my sim in a t-mobile phone and my data worked...

No! The turbosim unlocks your phone, jailbreaking it does not. Jailbreaking lets you use EDGE plus all the other apps and alot of other things. If you still cannot connect to the internet using either one of the APN's you have tried after jailbreaking it then i dont know what else to try other than waiting to unlock it when the yellowsnow software becomes available.
 
edge not working

i've had a tmobile iphone with a turbo sim for about 2 months now. my edge has pretty much never worked, it did for about 3 days when i first got it, and it did for a few hours last week. the little e just popped up and then disappeared. i've called tmobile and they said there is nothing wrong with my service, and they know i have an iphone. i would appreciate any help i can get, without edge, my iphone is just a pretty phone with some games on it. i'm almost ready to quit and get a g1.
 
Apparently , TurboSim's suck! Unlock it with software if you have a first gen. If not, wait til the yellowsnow software comes available soon.
