Do the 2015 macbook pro models have any screen display issues ? When I first got my 2012 , there was an issue with the type of displays you got, either Samsung or LG display and probably the samsung displays were more brighter and had no ghosting . Do the 2015 macbook pro's still have this issue ?
I've read about some of them having "staining" issues. Lot of talk about that in these forums. Here's a rather entertaining discussion about this for 2015s:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/is-staingate-present-in-2015-macbook-pros.1910623/

I would hope that Apple would have fixed that if they're still selling the 2015s as new. That's the one I'm supposedly getting. But that's a different issue than the one my 2012 had, which is ghosting, or image persistence. Mine still has that (LG display) and it's getting worse.

This is an informative thread! My mid 2012 rMBP's battery displayed at 83% health on battery power alone (I usually use it plugged in to power), but as I began watching a video online the health rapidly dropped to below 60% (and was displayed in yellow). As I continued to use it I got a 10% battery charge remaining warning, but when I dismissed the warning it magically said I had 38% remaining, and the battery health had changed to 78% (displayed in green). I continued to watch the video expecting to see the warning again, and it did last a bit longer but then the screen just went blank with no warning. Plugged it in and nothing happened until I continued pressing and holding the power button, and it then it woke up asking me to log in, but didn't actually reboot.

As it's charging right now, the battery health is at 85% with 624 charge cycles. ???

I'll try running it on battery for extensive periods this week and monitor the battery health.

Just for peace of mind, I gave them a quick call back. I still felt like an unappreciative butthead though. When submitting the replacement they had two options, a 2.5GHz processor with a 1TB SSD or 2.8GHz processor with a 512GB SSD. I much prefer the larger storage! So I went from a 2012 (2.7GHz, 768GB, 650M) to a 2015 (2.5GHz, 1TB, M370X)! That's AWESOME!

I'm still totally shocked, amazed, and very grateful that they are replacing my 2012 with a 2015 for $199.

Congrats! Do you remember what your battery health was before you took it in?

I was called by Apple today to let me know I'll be getting a 2015. I can't say I'm not happy. I'd rather get a 2016 or 17, but the 2015 is a big jump from my 2012, so I can't complain.

The Genius guy did say I'd get a "new" system that was "4 or 5 years newer" than my current one, and it would "never have been used before". Guess he was wrong about that.
I got my new system today. The Genius guy deserved his name. I didn't get the 2015. I got a brand spanking new 2017. I was more than a little surprised. This system is a beast. I like the new keyboard, the display is terrific, the performance is outstanding. The only problem is how long it takes to restore a Time Machine backup. Forever comes to mind. Other than that, and sure, adapters, the only complaint I have is that now I have nothing to complain about. I told the Genius lady that I am one HAPPY customer. I mean, REALLY. I haven't had any arguments with the Touch Bar yet, but I think we can arrive at a happy medium.

Congrats!
Was the 2017 a CTO?

I don't know. All I know is that they matched the config of my old system, which was 2.6 GHz / 16 GB RAM / 256 GB SSD. The only difference was the processor, which is 2.8 GHz in my new system, since they don't offer a 2.6. And the new system has a discrete GPU, too, which my old one didn't. They even matched the color, silver, which is what I would have wanted if I had that choice.

All in all, a terrific experience. I don't know if this was a good business decision for Apple, but it was one heck of a great PR decision, for sure. I can't stop yakking about it.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I think that is a standard base model and not a CTO. CTO takes longer to get in stock - I'm still waiting on mine!

Correct me if I'm wrong but a 2.6 would mean it's a 2016 not 2017 yes?

Just picked up my 2017 replacement :) What a great machine. Checked it out the in the shop and it's perfect. No scratches under the speakers, keyboard has no stuck keys, no backlight bleeding that I can see, and they bumped me from a 512GB to a 1TB SSD!

Going to write a letter of thanks to the store.

Outstanding! Best of luck with it.

Yeah, happened to me too.

Defective 2009 iMac. I had 4 GB stock RAM and 4 GB aftermarket RAM. Total 4 x 2 GB. I had forgotten to take out the RAM when I took it in. They couldn't fix the computer (logic board issues), so they got me a new machine.

Except the new machine had 4 GB RAM only. After I told them I had 4 GB aftermarket RAM, they took back the computer and ordered yet another one. But the new one had 8 GB Apple RAM... AND they asked me if I wanted 2 x 4 GB, leaving 2 slots open. Of course I wanted that! :)

Oh and the new computer was a faster 2010 model, and came with a new keyboard and a new mouse, so now I had two of each. And after they had transferred my data from my old drive to the new iMac, they also pulled the old drive from the old iMac and gave that to me too.

However, mine was under warranty. You had warranty on a 2012? Or was it one of those extended service things that Apple sometimes provides for design defects?

In my case my AppleCare had obviously run out (2 years ago) but they still helped me out

Mine was a mid-2012, way out of warranty. The battery was in the process of dying before its time, so Apple replaced the system under a special program.

Whelp, I was curious and checked my status. Can't believe this thing has only had 64 cycles..

This was a steal at a college auction!

Hi Psynnott, how long did it take for you to receive your replacement? I was advised that it should take a week which has now passed. I received the call last week to advise what unit I will be getting but have heard nothing since. Thanks

It was a bit of a saga. Left it into the shop on the 11th June and was told 3-5 days for battery replacement. Got a call the next day saying no batteries available so have it free in September if you can wait, or pay the £200 repair fee to get a 2015 refurb.

I opted for the refurb. 2 weeks later still nothing so I called them. The 2015 refurbs were also out of stock so I was bumped up to the 2017. Received it yesterday.

A bit of a wait but an amazing outcome that my family and everyone in work is constantly talking about!

Thanks Psynnott, not sure if I should just pop into the store and escalate. My Macbook Pro battery situation is worsening, not sure if its worth asking for a replacement in store on the spot.

If you have already left it in, I would just ask for an update and a date of when they expect to have it ready. The softly route always works better

Hope you get a new battery.

Good luck

I'm getting a new battery......inside a brand new 2017 model :D:D

Just had a call from the Store, it's been built and shipped, and is currently in Almaty in Kazakhstan, due to arrive on Monday.

I'm over the moon. Originally they offered a refurb 2015 with no discrete graphics. I asked politely if it was possible to have one with discrete graphics as by old one did, they upped the offer to a 2015 with discrete graphics and 512GB SSD, they then called to say they had trouble getting that spec so upped it to the 2015 with 1TB SSD. They then called again offering me a 2017 model but apologised as it would only have the 512GB SSD. :D

So I'm going from a mid 2012 2.6 16GB 512GB with 650M to a 2017 2.8 16GB 512GB with the 555 2GB VRAM - May god strike me dead if I ever say a bad word about Apple again!

Thanks Psynnott, I called and was advised that it could take up to a further two weeks. From reading other posts, it sounds like my machine needs to built first before it can be sent over to my local Apple store rather than picking one from stock.

Milsy68 - how did you come across the tracking info? Did you call the store and they gave you an update? Or did you have a tracking ref and looked it up online? I'm tempted to look for a ref for myself if so

The guy I'm dealing with at the Apple Store called me and gave me the update unprompted. He's been brilliant, calling me anytime there is an update and making sure I'm up to date with the latest developments.

Count yourself extremely lucky, I'm going crazy waiting for my replacement 2017 model. Everytime I call the store or check the repair status online I get bupkiss, no info available on either. Reading other users getting their replacements before me obviously doesnt help! But congrats to all who have got them, its really good service from Apple.
