Galen KILLED IT for the DBacks through 6 innings, no hits. Rangers found their bats in the 7th inning. Eovalde, the Ranger pitcher was in the middle of DBack anarchy for basically 6 innings, but miraculously DBacks were left hanging.

The pitching from both starters was excellent. The Rangers managed better in the end, it was a deserved win. Happy for their World Series triumph. Winning in 5 was no mean feat.

congrats RANGERS!
bruce Botchy HOF manager to figure out how to win in October.
Those Rangers are a fun team to watch.

I have a feeling next season will be a long near .500 on for the D'backs.
they need some starting pitching.

as for MLB hopefully Alonso and mcNeil stay of the metropolitans.
as well as Otani with the Halos!

My impression for 6 innings, DBacks making hits, constantly threatening, heart in my throat, with silence from the Ranger’s bats, zero chance of winning if you are not making hits, gettng on base. Gallen the DBack pitcher was magnificint during this period. Rangers were shut down.

In comparison, despite being in alligators up to his elbows for 6 innings, I have to hand it to Eovulde who was under the most intense sustained pressure, taking big breaths, blowing out air, talking to himself, he hung in there and finished if Imremember correctly with a 3 up, 3 down inning.

Then the 7th and the damn broke over Gallen, someone got a hit off him. Not an expert, but my impression is that the Rangers had 6 innings to get a handle on his pitches, which were wicked. From there it was all Up hill for Arizona.

Eovaldi is a horse. When the Red Sox and Dodgers went into extra innings in the 2018 WS and essentially played two games in one night, he pitched in relief and sacrificed his start for game 3 or 4 (can't remember which game it was) and he was absolutely nails. I think the only hit he gave up that game was the walk off winner for the Dodgers but that's the ONLY game they won. I really, really wish we had re-signed him in Boston but oh well. When healthy, Eovaldi is lights out.

As for Arizona, Gallen was insane but it was their bullpen that let them down. Paul Sewald (former Mariners closer) gave up those initial hits to the Rangers and he immediately knew he had given up that homer to Semien. That's the way it goes sometimes though. Your starter can be damn near perfect and then you end up being the guy that not only gives up the no-hitter but also the lead and the game and history makes you wear that for all time.

Gallen pitched an insane game, and the bullpen was certainly subpar, but most of the fault goes to the batters. Eleven (11!!!!!) LOB with a 0-9 with RISP is something that should not happen in a crucial World Series game. At least two or three of the 11 should’ve been runs.

During the game, they showed super imposed trajectories of how the different pitches from both starting pitchers arced towards the strike zone and it was impressive as hell, how much manipulation the pitcher can apply to a ball. Both of the starters were excellent, but there was talk about how Gallen and altered his technique recently, and no one on the Rangers could hit off him for 6 innings.

I imagine them all sitting in the bullpen studying his pitches on their tablets for 6 innings, and someone finally got it. That pitch that zinged in sliding down and then suddenly plummets inside was a monster! Not that that makes any Arizona fans happy today... ;)

Yeah that's pretty awful and didn't help their cause last night. If this was a regular season game, eh whatever. But game 5 of the WS...bad look all around.

Yes the superimposition shot was amazing

Not quite as iconic as riding in the back of a motorized cable car, but it'll do just fine.

In more shocking news, the Cubs have fired David Ross and hired Craig Counsell away from Milwaukee with a record-breaking contract for a manager.

Yeah I saw that too. In his defense, it's hard to manage a team like the Cubs when the owners refuse to pay for talent and expect throw aways to pick up the slack. Like the Red Sox...

In related news, a park in the Milwaukee suburb where Counsell was born and raised had its "Craig Counsell Park" sign defaced with graffiti overnight. Brewers fans are not happy!

Edit: Added info to make sense out of this post!

Yeah, definitely didn't see the Cubs coming into the picture. That being said, I'm happy with Stephen Vogt for the Guardians, at least from everything I've heard/read.

Vogt was my first choice for the Giants vacancy, but when it became clear that Melvin was available, that was that. I'll be following Vogt's managing career with interest: he has what it takes to be successful.
