I just came across this video and I have to agree. Juan Siti should have taken the Nat's 400 million dollar 15 year contract extension, he refused (no doubt egged on my Scott Boras who presumably was getting even more greedy). As everyone knows they traded him, got a slew of young talent, and Soto is currently batting .180 and OPS of .720. Not 400 million dollar numbers

I never understood why teams were so in love with Soto. His numbers weren't really that great.

I think he did have solid number prior to last year. But if anything Scott Boras is really great and spinning tales and building up suspense.

Tbh, I thought he should have signed the extension, if anything so he could be the face of a franchise, now he's just a hired gun, who will not make anything near what the Nats offered.

"No one named Scott has never not been terrible."

Good article, from the Shift Era, (2014) on bunting:

So answer me this, what is the allure with those home run celebrations, the Braves have the giant hat (which incidentally MLB told them to stop) Red sox had the home run cart. The pirates now have a jacket.

I just don't get it - maybe I'm getting old and grumpy. I don't mind celebrations and them getting excited but putting on a giant hat or jacket just seems odd

The Blue Jays had their home run jacket the last two years. They've stopped it this year though. I also saw the Mariners have a Trident this year. I think it's just a trend thing that will most likely last a few seasons and then perhaps disappear for something else.

Just having I guess...

They have to have some way to celebrate and let off steam in the dugout, I think. The whole AL East was above .500 when last I looked, it’s crazy.

Not as of this morning.

I'm really impressed with the Orioles, I watched them last night and they just never gave up. They didn't lead until late in the game. I also thought the Blue Jays and Yankees would be more dominant. I know its a game of streaks, and we're still in April. Yet with NY's payroll being the second worst team in the division is not a good look.

As for the Red Sox, I think the whole team has been mismanaged from the front off on down. I didn't have any high expectations going into the season and I'm not disappointed. Chris Sale is a huge bust, its almost like the day after they signed him to a mega contract he got injured and has never been the same.

I think they just wanted something more than the "gauntlet" of high fives in the dugout. Although some teams have just stuck with that. I'm sure I don't know the "connection" to the locale for many of them, or if there is one. The Brewers had a bell in the dugout last year that the batter who hit the "dinger" would ring. This year, they've opted for putting on the "cheesehead" hat, which, although corny, has a local connection.

The first team I noticed doing it was the Padres, and their logo on a gold chain remains the classiest celebration, IMO.

Glad to hear that the Blue Jays retired that gaudy jacket. That had to be the dumbest one I've seen.

I don’t blame any fan for not spending their hard earned money, when it’s clear the billionaire owner is choosing not to spend his money to improve the team

Want to fill the seats? Field a competitive team

Exactly how I feel about the Rockies. I stopped wasting my time & money watching/listening to them a few years ago.

If you like OBP, you love Juan Soto. His 2019-2021 were outstanding. From 2022 onwards, he's not been very good, but he's still only 24 years old: plenty of time to turn it around again. Then again, he's a Padre, so I don't mind him struggling.

Is it time to blow up the Red Sox?
With Madison Bumgarner being DFA'd I wonder if the Red Sox are considering giving up on Chris Sale at this point.

Its not like they can trade him as he has a no trade clause. More importantly, what team would want a player that has not completed a season since 2018?

So there's been a rash of pitcher injuries so far, even though we're only a month into the season. There seems to be some chatter, whispers if you will, that the pitch clock and forcing pitchers to work faster may be having an adverse affect on their health

And then the Red Sox go on a 6-game winning streak, including a 4-game sweep of the Blue Jays, and are suddenly in a Wild Card spot. Maybe this team has some potential after all.

Yankees with their stars and huge budget in last place in the AL East.
