Yeah, that's sad. And the next game with Tampa Bay Rays is definitely not going to be a breakthrough for Yankees

Yankees with their stars and huge budget in last place in the AL East.
I'm loving it, BUT and its a big BUT. We're early in on the season and there's a ton of baseball left to play. I don't expect the Yankees to remain in the cellar, and I also don't expect the Red Sox continue their winning ways.

One thing regarding the yankees, it seems so many fans are calling for Boone and Cashman's head. They don't feel like that Boone adequately prepares the team (I think this is the case) and Cash for not addressing the holes in the team. I think Cashman is a good GM, better then most.

Well its true, there are a few things that are unlikely to be sustained with the Red Sox, like Yoshida’s huge hitting streaks and Duran’s .417 average. Devers at 11 HRs and 31 RBIs in 129 at-bats is on course to have a unreasonably huge season also. But for the first time in a few years I’m feeling stirrings of unlikely optimism about the Sox. And Cora is good at managing teams that run on enthusiasm, he may be able to keep this going.

But agreed the AL East is going to be quite a struggle.

Paul Goldschmidt hit three home runs yesterday. That's the only bright spot so far for my beloved Cardinals.

Man, does this pitching staff miss Yadi. If ever there was a need to bolster his HOF case, just looking at this year's team and its struggle with pitching should add to his "legendary" status...

Chris Sale had a strong outing. Maybe he's not washed up after all

The Yankees game was funny, Gerrit Cole on the mound, they go up 6-0, then on the handover to the bullpen it all goes pear-shaped and the Rays come back to 6-7, the Yankees square it to 7-7, the game goes 10 innings before the Rays walk it off.

Are people really blaming Willson Contreras for the pitching staff's woes? Do they think a rookie catcher will really lead to improvement in that area? Who will be benched while Contreras shifts to DH? Won't the rookie catcher be an offensive minus compared to whoever that is?

Not necessarily blaming Contreras. I actually was excited they picked him up. Just feel like the switch to a different pitcher-handling philosophy might be part of the issue, as well as, to be honest, a less-than impressive rotation.

The team certainly does miss Yadi, but I don't think he's not the only reason why St. Louis is struggling this year. He only played 78 games in 2022. He was out way more then he was in
That's true, but his presence as a veteran clubhouse leader counted for something, though I'm careful not to overstate that. Ultimately, as I replied to a different post, I feel like the regime change behind the plate plus a less-than-stellar starting rotation has combined for something of a perfect storm. But I think the front offive needs to let Contreras play and get it sorted. Knizner is not the answer here.

The whole thing of when young players are ready to join the Majors still continues to confound me, look at a highly touted prospect like the Red Sox’s Triston Casas. He has hit .150 or so in the first month’s play and it looks like he will take a while to settle. But then he did hit a homer last night, so maybe things are looking up.

The Red Sox keep surprising me, I think they may be playing over their talent but hey, a win is a win, though I do wonder if they'll somehow they'll crash and burn.

Thanks to mlb.tv, I've really enjoyed watching the Orioles

Growing up a Red Sox fan in Maine, I always enjoy Sox/Cardinals match-ups regardless of the outcome. Though I was glad the Cardinals came from behind in the 9th to win again (it was exciting), I was upset for Sale, who pitched a tremendous game reminiscent of the old Sale, and had to watch it be squandered by Jansen.

Yeah… Jansen joins the 400 saves club and the next two opportunities he blows the saves by allowing 3 runs and twice gets the L. Feeling sorry for Chris Sale, that was an awesome start, 8 innings, 110 pitches and 1 earned run.
