I think I can help you with both of your problems.
1. yes the hack can be easily removed. Update the carrier file in iTunes just like you did to install the hacked file except pick the file from
C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Carrier Support That is where the original is on mine.

2. The wifi connection is removed when you reset network settings if you did that. You will have to enter your wifi settings again on the iPhone. Setting/wifi I had to leave my ssid broadcast set to on for the iPhone to see the connection, don't know why but I had it set to hidden before but I can't leave it like that now.

Hope that helps.

Thank you... I'm not seeing the ssid option under setting/wifi though???? What am I missing?

The ssid setting is on your router. You have to enable that from your computer if it is not already enabled. When your iPhone searched for a wifi connection is your home network listed? If it is your ssid is already turned on.

if this doesn't work can i just restore from a backup and get my phone back to its original state? if it doesn't work, don't want to do anything that will screw it up for the 25th.

The original carrier file is very easy to put back. I tried it already to see if it works. Just put it back on the phone through iTunes and restart your phone. It is then just like it was. I am going to do this on the 24th to make sure I get the official new file. I copied the original carrier file to it's own folder so I could make sure I had it and it wasn't overwritten some how.

Never had a mac. Mine is a folder called application data. There is a folder in there called apple computer. It is buried in a folder in there. If there is a function on your computer to search folders, search it for one called iPhone Carrier Support

Try doing a search on your computer for a file named ATT_US.ipcc the original is the one that is 32kb in size

doesn't matter anyway - doesn't work here in Austin, turned off wifi and reset network setting. get the red exclamation. back to 4.0 i guess. got a copy of that. its the 3.0 FM carrier but it should work i suppose.

No dice in the Daytona Beach FL area, downloaded the file in this thread, reset network settings, turned off wifi, still getting the fail. 3.1 with iPhone texting plan.

Maybe the reason it worked for me is that I have the family unlimited text messaging plan and I have other phones like a nokia.

my guess is iphone texting plans are blocked still. Also whats interesting is i put my 5.0 carrier file back on and MMS wont go away! My cellular data network settings are gone but under messaging i still have the option to turn MMS on.

After you restart the phone mms will be gone.

Wow I followed the tutorial and got it to work in about literally 2 minutes. I was reluctant to try because of how confusing I thought some of the other tutorials were. But it's working for me.

yupp same here it finally works for me again i wonder if you send videos now to?

the tutorial works great, however, what i have found from reading, etc, is that if you're on an idv iphone texting plan you're outta luck for the time being. i did come across a few folks who are getting incoming, but not allowing outgoing for ind iphone texting plans. really hoping we can get this working fast for folks on the ind iphone texting plan.
