To get fully knocked back i had to restore as a new phone. Every time i tried to put the original file back i still had MMS settings, which means that a backup is still saving hacked settings despite using an original carrier file

Worked for me.

Love the simplicity of this update. Download a 59.1KB file and bam, mms works.

Wonder what ATT did to disable tethering...

Mad props to the OP, he worked out the MMS puzzle.

MMS working in Houston if you go through the rigamarole of registering with medianet through putting your sim in another phone.

Hey Entertainment72, what are all the settings under your mms you have ? Such as proxy etc ? Im trying to use what the carrier file had but its not working. let us know .. Thanks

Trying it out now with the ATT file 5.1, running on iPhone OS 3.1 (non-hacked) and have the 200-message plan from ATT.
So far it hasn't worked. I've reset the network settings a few times, tried on 3G and WiFi but no go. Will continue to try.
BTW - I'm in S FL.

Man this is frustrating.

I can send MMS but anytime someone tries to send me an MMS, it completely kills my connection and goes to "searching..." and then a popup saying "cannot activate cellular data network".

Update: Works on 3G but doesn't work on WiFi. Had to upgrade my plan to the unlimited family plan for $30.00
WiFi takes a while on the last bit of sending but it fails after about 2 minutes.
:(

Mine didn't work at first but then I went to:
Settings
General
Reset
Reset Network Settings

and voila!

Sometimes though I get the red explanantion mark but my friend still got it.

No go here too. Did the 5.1 carrier update, tethering is fine. Reset network settings, reset mms settings. I have tried in Pittsburgh, Atlanta and Miami in this last week with no luck. I wonder if it is the family text plan or what. Something must be the key to get mms working besides putting your sim into another phone...

This worked for me, my wife, and 4 out of 5 co-workers in southeastern PA, near Harrisburg. Pleased as punch. Will be sending many, many picture messages to make up for lost time.

I installed the carrier file in OP and MMS worked on Edge but not over WiFi. Then I changed the network settings for the WiFi fix and now it works both ways.

I'm in central Florida and I have a family messaging plan on my account. I've confirmed that sending and receiving works. Visual voicemail is also working still.

Thanks, OP!
