I just had a long conversation in MobileChat through my msn account and it worked flawlessly. I opened and closed the app and played games in between, and every time i went back to the app, it loaded all the messages that were sent to me while i was gone. Pretty cool. I think they might be getting things straightened out. AIM is still pretty bad though.

I was actually able to connect to AIM today. Now all we need is for them to keep on fighting the good fight to get their server loads under control and for apple to release the update that was put in right after the approval.

Things are getting better, definitely.

I can sign into AIM, but it automatically puts me in away mode. I've checked the MC settings under 'Settings' and I don't have suspend enabled. Any idea what's going on?

EDIT: Great, now all it does is freeze and crash on me.

Per their Tumblr:

"We're going to fix this in 3.0.2, there are conflicts in the default settings the app uses, and the default settings the Settings app uses."

HAHA, so it's a problem in the settings for the settings. That's a lovely excuse

what makes me laugh about the developers is that they call this Mobilechat 3.0 yet, it's like a pre 1.0 beta version.

MobileChat 1.0 and 2.0 were jailbreak versions of the app and it had to be completely overhauled to meet the specifications of Apple's SDK.

completely overhauled you say. then i say again, why 3.0? it is basically a beta version, and one that doesn't even work. if there was a 1.0 and a 2.0, then it's pretty obvious they haven't learned much.

they should call it mobilechat 3......version 1.0

not mobilechat....version 3.0, because it is not

Just because you change the architecture of your program doesn't mean you downgrade the version number. Higher version doesn't necessarily mean less bugs but usually more/newer features. There can be a beta version of any version number, not just an application that hasn't released 1.0 yet. You sound like you don't know jack about application development so I'm not sure why you're trying to tell anyone what their application's version number should be.

as i said, it is a beta version that doesn't work. you have pages galore of threads speaking to that fact. and i'm not the developer, they are, yet they don't seem to know jack about application development either to develop something that doesn't work. by the way, i paid for the app, they took my money, and that does give me the right to comment on the program, the developers, and the f'ed up way they've conducted themselves, first with the program delays, passing blame on apple, then with the launch, passing blame on their data center when its clear as day the app was not ready for primetime, and their backend was not ready as well. they have no one else but themselves to blame. shame on them for trying to pass responsibility for the delays and failures to everyone else.

wait until beejive comes out next month. they will quickly learn how crappy their app is, and so will you, and what a waste of a starbucks coffee it was on our part to purchase mobilechat

Carlisle, Up Norf!
You people are ****ing unbelievable.

One minute they've got people saying the app isn't real and that it's never going to come out (not that the devs ever gave a date for release, people just assumed they deserved it or something) and the next, when they under estimate demand for the app and have teething troubles they have people jumping on them saying they are not up to the task, that Apple should remove it from the App store and whatever else drastic ******** they can come up with.

This is clearly a big learning curve for them, and yes, maybe they we're under prepared. But for ****s sake, give them some time. It's not like they are sitting with their thumbs up their arses doing nothing about it. They are quite clearly trying to sort it out, whilst frequently updating status on their blog and are even talking about trying to sort refunds and compensation out for people who want it. Thats a **** load more than you all got from Apple the first week that MobileMe was ****ed up.

So all get off your high horses, and either be patient for a second (because at the end of the day, it's only an iPhone application. Which, I'm sure will not be as much of a big issue once a girl has touched your willy for the first time) or uninstall the application, shut the **** up, and wait to see if you can get a refund of the quite frankly massive total of $3.

So can you explain to me again why we are so ******* unbelievable as you put it? it is exactly threads and discussions like this, with 22,000+ views that will allow our voices to be heard, and more importantly hold the developers accountable. are we to simply shut up as you suggest for a product that is currently unuseable? The complaints that the people here are voicing are valid, legit, and warranted. Suppose no one complained, do you think the developers would have an incentive to not only make their product work, but to improve it? in fact, i wouldn't be surprised if a large number of people complained directly to apple, and there is a bit of pressure on the devs to possibly provide refunds to those that want it, because i'm pretty sure, many people expecting a working app but didn't get it has asked apple for it. And by the way, if we paid for an app that currently doesn't work, and we call out the developers on it, we are now on a high horse without reason?

in the end, all this complaining and bitching that you don't want to hear, will ultimately make mobilechat a better product. and if the valid complaining and bitching is disagreeable to you, then i suggest you stop reading this thread in the future because i'm sure there will be more of it as long as current conditions persist.

works great for me on MSN, which is all i use. And seeing how this is the only app to work with MSN, its perfect!

I admire these guys, all the tight bastards here have been giving them a tough time, saying they should shut down etc, and they have stuck with it, and are trying to sort things out. Im expecting alot of this with the App Store, its small developers trying to get a break in the world.

No, you said it shouldn't be version 3.0 and you were wrong. Don't try to change the subject.

and i'm not the developer, they are, yet they don't seem to know jack about application development either to develop something that doesn't work.

It's obvious you are not developer. They seem to know plenty about application development because the program is running and working for me and has been for most people for the past 35+ hours after the server issues have slowly been resolved. You're claiming it's unusable? *laugh* I claim it's user error.

by the way, i paid for the app, they took my money, and that does give me the right to comment on the program, the developers, and the f'ed up way they've conducted themselves, first with the program delays, passing blame on apple, then with the launch, passing blame on their data center when its clear as day the app was not ready for primetime, and their backend was not ready as well. they have no one else but themselves to blame. shame on them for trying to pass responsibility for the delays and failures to everyone else.

I asked you earlier in this thread where they passed any blame on their data center and you have yet to provide that proof for that claim. I also asked where they recently blamed Apple for anything and you've failed to provide that, too. You can't. Yet, day in and day out, you're in here spouting your mudslinging as if this is all they've been doing, hoping some uninformed reader will see it and believe it.

I don't care if you criticize the app for things that aren't working but you're criticizing the developers over lies and ignorance regarding version number conventions.

wait until beejive comes out next month. they will quickly learn how crappy their app is, and so will you, and what a waste of a starbucks coffee it was on our part to purchase mobilechat

If that happens, so be it. All the more power to BeeJive and all the more power to us, the consumers. You act like you've never paid for something and then something better came out a month later.

These guys are bush league. They should not have released this app. They have no credibility of having any competence. I can't sign into AIM, was this bug not found in their beta testing? Can't wait for jivetalk.

Last night, I tried signing into AIM and it worked! The SMS alerts worked and everything. I was disconnected at some point over night, but I think they may be starting to get things in order.

I still think it's beyond ridiculous that this was released in such a terrible state, but I do think this will ultimately be a nice app.

Did there beta testing include tons of users?

No....

Server issues happen a lot. Unless you are trapped in a box you probably know that it happened with Apple's very own MobileMe. Just be patient, it will work. Also, they reply to support emails very quickly (2 minutes for my email) ;).

Patience, everyone.

After all, the App was only $3. Two cups of coffee at SBUX...not the end of the world I hope! If you all have enough money to buy an iPhone/iPod touch (which I hope you do, otherwise why would you have one?) then the $3 won't kill you.

I'm frustrated too, but at the end of the day, even if it doesn't end up working, it's $3 - live and learn.

It's much more stable now though then yesterday! They're definitely doing something.

So I delete MC off iPhone, reboot and now all other apps (besides apple's) crashes. None of them will start. Just wonderdul.
