You people are ****ing unbelievable.

One minute they've got people saying the app isn't real and that it's never going to come out (not that the devs ever gave a date for release, people just assumed they deserved it or something) and the next, when they under estimate demand for the app and have teething troubles they have people jumping on them saying they are not up to the task, that Apple should remove it from the App store and whatever else drastic ******** they can come up with.

This is clearly a big learning curve for them, and yes, maybe they we're under prepared. But for ****s sake, give them some time. It's not like they are sitting with their thumbs up their arses doing nothing about it. They are quite clearly trying to sort it out, whilst frequently updating status on their blog and are even talking about trying to sort refunds and compensation out for people who want it. Thats a **** load more than you all got from Apple the first week that MobileMe was ****ed up.

So all get off your high horses, and either be patient for a second (because at the end of the day, it's only an iPhone application. Which, I'm sure will not be as much of a big issue once a girl has touched your willy for the first time) or uninstall the application, shut the **** up, and wait to see if you can get a refund of the quite frankly massive total of $3.

You do raise some perfectly good points. But you failed to grasp the main point entirely. The app doesn't bloody work. Which is kind of the least people expect of a paid app. Only last night did I even manage to get connected at all for the first time, and even then, it crashed promptly afterwards. And just before it crashed, it was throwing up all kinds of errors up at me and chunks of the UI were vanishing.
In short, it's crap. Simple as that. No ifs, no buts. So don't be so surprised to see a huge thread like this full of complaints.

Oh, and the reason why I had to delete it is because I tried to log into AIM and it froze. Closed it out and could not restart it. It kept crashing. Perhaps this is where it did something to prevent me from opening any app?

Question now is do I uninstall/reinstall all apps thru itunes, or do a restore?

The app is, and has been working perfectly for me for over 24 hours now, but hey, lets continue to bash some kids who thought big, and made an app that does what no other app has been able to do thus far.

But the fact is, people were saying how it's never coming out and jumping all over the developers for their delays. Imagine if MobileChat delayed another three weeks to iron out everything. Sure, some rational people would understand that they'd rather wait longer for a 100% working application...but take a look at the App Store reviewers...there are people who think everything should be free, people who simply post 1 star because of Apple firmware crashes, and people who simply say "I don't know what this application does, but $100?? lol"

MobileChat was working nicely for me. But I agree that there are many bugs (first of which is coming back into the application disconnected and unable to reconnect because we have to "wait ten minutes")

I guess you've been sleeping since July 11th and haven't heard of the numerous problems people have been having with their apps not opening and having to be reinstalled prior to MobileChat ever coming out. MobileChat has no way of screwing with the other apps in any way to mess them up. You can thank Apple and the glitchy 2.0-2.0.1 software for that.

Yes, I am well aware. But as I clarified above, I think the problem didn't start from the delete, but when MC froze and crashed itself when I tried to restart it. Perhaps something got thrown off in the "sandbox" when it froze? Fault of MC? iPhone software? Both? I don't know. Do I have any reason to feel confident in MC software or it's developers? No I do not.

I didn't say you had any reason to but there's no reason to make things up just because you're unhappy with it.

Making what up?

MC froze logging into AIM. Closed out. Tried to restart. MC crashes. Tried to start any other non-apple app, app crashes. Why? I don't know.

Um...I just deleted MC too (when I opened it, it just showed a dimmed blank grey screen and that's it), and.....

...a similar thing is happening to me that it sounds like happened to you. After deleting, I tried to open the App Store, and the phone crashed and started to restart itself. Now apps are crashing left and right. Maybe it IS doing something when being deleted, but that would be very weird...

I disabled it in iTunes. Didn't get errors that way. I'll probably delete it from iTunes also soon. I'll be shocked if they get this app working properly by the end of the week. I'm not reloading it and they can keep my payment I don't want to have to deal with this app and developers again.

No offense but people have not been clamoring for Mobilechat to come out. The only clamoring came because the devs said it was ready to go and Apple was holding up the show.

Clearly this was a lie. If they had been honest, they could have taken as long as they wanted and it would not matter.

Of course they and I both know real developers will have real chat suites out soon enough so their window is now or never to try and turn a buck.

If they never came out and said their app was ready, nobody would have been wringing their hands waiting on it.

Did there beta testing include tons of users?

No....

Server issues happen a lot. Unless you are trapped in a box you probably know that it happened with Apple's very own MobileMe. Just be patient, it will work. Also, they reply to support emails very quickly (2 minutes for my email) ;).

No it won't because they don't have anyone in their company who knows how to manage a server.

It is wishful thinking to think they will magically just work flawlessly given time.

what a giant piece of junk this has turned out to be.

aim doesn't work whatsoever. i keep getting the 'too frequent sign-in' message despite just trying for the first time again this morning.

i dont know why ppl are excited to use msn with this because you don't even get sms/email notifications unless its for aim/.mac accounts. kinda defeats the entire purpose of this app and any benefits it has over beejive/palringo etc.

Yeah, I was dissapointed to see that you cant get push txt messages with MSN, but we'll have push to the app itself in less than a month, and it still offers the benefit of receiving messages that were sent to you when you had the app closed. :)

Something went screwy. Will have to reload all apps from iTunes when I get home from work. I have been able to delete MC from iPhone before with no issues. I think soenthkng happened when it froze and crashed to mess things up.

These guys are bush league. They should not have released this app. They have no credibility of having any competence. I can't sign into AIM, was this bug not found in their beta testing? Can't wait for jivetalk.

No, this was because they used a small beta sample. They didn't expect the sudden demand on their servers which is making them run slower and have connection issues. Yes, they should have guessed that this app would be wildly popular since it was, from what I gathered, a popular jailbreak app. The UI works fine, their servers have trouble and they are working on it. Now, can we force that through not only your thick skull, but the thick skulls of everyone else bashing them? Apple has had bigger messes than this, every software and computer manufacturer does. Cut them some slack

I'm sorry but there are also some UI bugs with this app also (ex. Accounts disappearing, etc). The app and server/service is tied together anyway and should be judged as a whole. And the last time MC froze/crashed on me, it threw something off and now all my apps are crashing.

New update regarding AIM:

It looks like the biggest issue that people seem to be having (amongst the hundreds of other equally important issues) is that AIM seems to lock them out over and over.

We’re well aware of this issue and we’re currently working out the solution.

For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about. There’s a bug in the MobileChatServer that throws your username into a connection loop if a certain scenario is met. The connection loop tries to connect your username over and over until it reaches the rate limits that AOL enforces. Since it keeps reconnecting (regardless of what you do on the iPhone), it blocks out your username for an unspecified period of time.

We have no estimated time frame on the patch for this problem; however, we are diligently working and hope to have a solution soon. We will post new information as it develops.

Just as a note, we are VERY aware of the other issues; however, we are focusing on the largest and moving down the list as we solve them.

I understand that everyone is frustrated. Shaun and I have been working non-stop over the past few days trying to resolve these issues and there’s only so many hours in the day. We’ve brought in a number of people to help us out and we’ve been speaking with the people who are behind some of the core technologies that we run MobileChat on. We’re deeply apologetic for the hassle we’ve caused people and understand that people are furious with us. My only consolation (as of right now) is that, if you’re patient, a quality product will be delivered (as it should have in the first place!). I can offer nothing else other than the knowledge that Shaun and I will not rest until we’ve made each and every one of our customers 100% satisfied.
