I have an AOC U32U1. 650 nits brightness and HDR600. The ppi is around 160 and still is quitw clear. I am very happy with it.

I would consider an Alienware QD oled if they made a 32”. Or a glossy Eve Spectrum if it was here in 32”.

What about the Alienware QD-OLED AW3423DW? It's just two inches larger, 175hz via displayport, and 3440 x 1400. This is a really impressive monitor with HDR and the enormous benefits of OLED. Reviews have been stellar.

These new high refresh rate OLED monitors for PCs are one reason (among others) I'm considering a switch back to a PC desktop machine, first time in a decade. These PC OLED monitors are tremendous if you've ever seen one in person.

Also, not a fan of the new Studio Display. 60hz is garbage, period, as is no HDR. I cannot understand how one of the most expensive monitors available doesn't have better refresh and HDR. And I'm not interested in paying for a monitor to have a CPU, pay for audio I don't need -- and then have to pay $400 more on top of the the $1599/$1899 base price for "height adjustment."

I have absolutely no space left on my desk, unfortunately. :( Also, the monitor is not available in The Netherlands (yet).

I was thinking about trying that. Doesn't seem like the new display is any better than my iMac, and my iMac would probably only sell for $300-500 so if I could use that as a display I'd do that. Is the performance of Luna as good as if it were connected with a wire? Does it work in 5k?
Yup it displays the MBP in full screen on the iMac. BTW you can connect the two three ways: wifi, ethernet or TBolt cable plus adapter in my case since it's a late 2015 version.

For the price of a Studio Display you can get 3 huawei 28” 4k HDR displays in the very useful 3:2 format which is ideal for coding and data analysis.
The 16:9 format is just good for watching video (not even editing it).

I tried a non Apple display: Samsung 4K 32" but it was not the same as my 27" TB display from 11 years ago.

So if you are getting the Studio, get a Studio Display.

It's well worth it.
If my 11 year old Apple display lasted this long at $1000 back then; this ASD will be worth it.

My current setup with the base Mac Studio and Apple Studio display - my beloved 11 year old 27" Thunderbolt display.

Looks good side by side:

How did you connect your thunderbolt display to the Mac Studio?
Apple TB3-TB2 adapter.

All functions still work with the new Mac Studio: webcam, speakers, brightness controls, color gamut, USB-A ports, and Ethernet.

Love how a 11 year old still can play with the new boys..

Thank you 4sallypat. That is exactly the information I wanted. Now I know that I will be able to move my old thunderbolt display to the mac studio and keep its features.

Welcome!
And you will still be able to use the 720p webcam from the 27" Thunderbolt display which I really want to do for video meetings & conferences...

How does the Thunderbolt display look with text compared to the Apple Studio Display?

The 27" Thunderbolt display from 2011 is still very good - perfect text, font and sharpness.

I still use the Thunderbolt display for text editing and web HTML.

Both displays have sharp, crisp text / fonts.

Love how a decade old display still looks good with the 2022 Studio display.

Of course for 4K video streaming, YT, and FCP the Studio Display shines.

What Delta E are you getting on that LG?

Sorry for the delayed response, I just saw this. Delta E from last calibration is 1.24. Here is also the report. I can definitely live with a dE of 1.24.

I plan to upgrade from my 2012 iMac to a Mac Studio. I am not convinced I need to spend as much for the monitor as the Studio Display costs; I can and will if necessary, but I would like to consider less expensive options.

I design newsletters, write curriculum, do some podcasting, a little photography as a hobby, and record and edit instructional videos for students. I do not often use Skype or Zoom. I have a good speaker system in my office already.

With these criteria in mind is there a 27" monitor (or perhaps slightly larger) that anyone could recommend or am I best to purchase the Studio Display?
I am using a $270 AOC 27" U2790VQ frameless IPS display (connected via Display Port) that looks stellar at 2560x1440 and double scan 2304x1296 when I need a bit larger text.

It is nearly as color accurate as my LG 21.5" UltraFine Thunderbolt display and works great with 13" 10th gen MBP, 2020 M1 Mini, Max Studio and even fugly Dell Latitude (work) laptops.

How does the quality of the screen on the LG compare to the iMac 5K when you have them side by side. I am not into gaming at all either, but I do need crisp text as I do a lot of writing of curriculum. My photograpy is a hobby, but I do like to hear about the color accuracy. I do like the looks of the Ergo stand.
Try Eizo. CS2740 (4k) or maybe wait for the new CG2700s....or CG2700x (4k) I' m waiting (photography as hobby). Probably the best you can get for photography/colour accuracy.

He cited crisp text as prerequisit, I think he is better off getting something 5k for 27”. Unless he is fine using 1920x1080 UI resolution on a 27” 4k.

Also CS2740 for hobby photography maybe a bit overkill, but of course if someone can afford it, it is fine.

The Eizo is considerably more expensive than the Studio Display in Australia. I have weighed all the options and gone with the Studio Monitor. I wish it was less expensive. I could do without the camera and I would be OK without speakers, but I think it will work well for my needs. It should have a height adjustment without a several hundred dollar upgrade, but thankfully at my height it is perfect. Every option I considered was a compromise in some way. I like the 5K resolution or even 6K if it were a 32". I would like mini led, faster refresh, HDR, etc., but if such a beast existed it would be beyond my budget. The studio is attactive, plenty bright for me, great colors, crisp text, and will match perfectly with my studio when it arrives.

Only studio Display, no better.
So, what you get when you buy a Studio Display:
1. a good camera
2. a good sounds
3. a good 5k resolution display
4. the best compatibility device for mac studio
5. The apple logo😁.

1~4 are all in one device!!! you can keep your desk clear every time!

I know everyone’s eyes are different but I do not agree that the old Thunderbolt Display has “perfect” text. I had mine next to a 24” LG 4K @185 PPI and text display did not compare at all. The text was visibly blurry in comparison to the 4K. I eventually sold the TB Display because I had a hard time using it after switching to the near-Retina 4K display.

I'm just curious... There seem to be very few recommendations in this thread for curved monitors. If that's correct, why? I just got one and love it.

I'm happy with the BenQ PD2700U that I have been using with my MacBook Pro. I may add a second one now that the Mac Studio is set up. I use it primarily for web design and video editing.
