I'll be honest, when I 1st saw the spy shots I thought it looked like a cheap hideous sony ericsson phone. Apple couldn't design something so ugly...maybe it was the way the picture was taken...why cant these pple take decent front on normal pics?

Then after seeing gizmodo's vids and exclusive side by side pics, I've changed my mind. It does fit well with the ipad and the unibody macbook pros.

yes I admit I like it now.

Terrible, I know.

Yet it brings nothing to the table of adding a removable battery. I want my battery soldered in since like the MacBooks, the gives it more space for energy storage.

What are you talking about? A user-replaceable battery would require the addition of an entire battery compartment to isolate the internal components. A ribbon connector to make factory battery replacements more efficient takes almost no space by comparison.

With the new iPhone sitting next to the 3gs, I now realize how ugly the 3gs was getting :p

I had to join to comment on this. From the engadget post it was VERY obviously real. I'm laughing at the naysayers too. Newsflash- designs change. I personally think that phone has an extremely sexy industrial design. In fact, it kind of makes the curved look of the 3g look decidedly "last year" in my opinion. That's how I knew it was real- that and the pics of the internals. No knockoff looks that pretty inside.

Yet, like others said, there is no removable battery.

I don't think there is going to be a removable battery either. There isn't any new apple product that can be opened. I don't think they are going to make an exception with the iPhone. I'd hate to drop my iPhone and the back fall off.

Awesome indeed! I wonder though if the person who lost this is jobless now ... :(

I'm sure the person who "lost" it got a pat on the back from doing a good job with the controlled leak orchestrated by Apple. Everything about this is just too fishy... I bet Apple has a bunch of prototypes lying around that they're never going to produce and they just took one and leaked it out to create buzz. I bet the final product looks nothing like this.

so if this is real

then is it possible that steve will reveal the new iphone sooner rather then in june/july?

Yet, like others said, there is no removable battery.

I didn't say there was! I was responding to your post, which complained that the battery wasn't soldered in. You made it sound like there was no reason not to have a removeable battery if you weren't going to solder the battery in, which is nonsense. You keep setting up straw-men and then, when they are knocked down, throwing up new ones as if they were your original points.

It can't vary too significantly. They might mock up a couple of different cases early on, but by the time the internal design reaches this advanced point the form is pretty much set. It is just too expensive to redesign the internals for different potential cases. Minor refinements are possible and perhaps even probably; but we're certainly looking at a much squarer three-part case, front facing camera, new SIM placement, etc.

To all those people saying Apple purposely leaked this and it is not the actual iPhone and it will look nothing like this:

If this is true, the iPhone has to AT LEAST have these features for it to be a successful marketing strategy. Leaking a front facing camera and then all thise other stuff and then releasing an iPhone that doesn't have it would destroy them.

No they are not 100%. As much, I say as close to 90%

You are confusing 'authenticity' and 'completeness.' These are almost certainly not the final design, but I think this is clearly a 100% authentic Apple-built prototype. And the videos make it pretty clear that all the pics are authentic.

I don't believe they are 100% authentic, they may be close to authentic, but not 100%. As well I also believe that if they are 100% they are not the final thing.

When it comes to Apple, no one is 100% sure. There is always that 'what if' and 'one more thing'

Having a removalbe batttery would be a flaw for apple, like I said before I'd hate to drop my iPhone and the back fall off, it would also make the phone less sturdy and more prone to cracking the glass if dropped.

You think Gizmodo has modified the pictures? What evidence do you have to back up this claim? Or are you claiming that someone got his hands on an Apple prototype and then modified it somehow? Does something in the design look inconsistent to you, as if Gizmodo added it or removed it? And what would be the motive for that? Surely it would be more profitable to them to show off the real thing?
