I'm still wondering how nobody noticed the new iPhone when the ipad leaked awhile back. I didn't even notice it.

If they could get rid of the seams on the top and the lower pat of the sides I'd be even more enthused, but so far....

Don't beat yourself up about it. We all missed it.

There were two iPhones in that image.
One was in the "stealth jacket" sitting on top of the iPad.
The other was the naked one. And only a corner was visible.

If the seam is there, it's there for a reason. I don't think it's for a removable battery though.

by way of John Gruber

It’s been an open secret to those of us in the racket that Gizmodo purchased this unit about a week ago, from those who claimed to find it. That this belongs to and was made by Apple is almost beyond question at this point. Just how much it looks like what Apple plans to ship this summer, I don’t know. Note that it’s thinner than a 3GS.

I’m mentioned in the article, and must respond. Jason Chen writes:

Apple-connected John Gruber — from Daring Fireball — says that Apple has indeed lost a prototype iPhone and they want it back:

So I called around, and I now believe this is an actual unit from Apple — a unit Apple is very interested in getting back.

Obviously someone found it, and here it is.

Note that I did not use the word “lost”. It is my understanding that Apple considers this unit stolen, not lost. And as for the “someone(s)” who “found” it, I believe it is disingenuous for Gizmodo to play coy, as though they don’t know who the someones are.

Fishy indeed...

You think Gizmodo has modified the pictures? What evidence do you have to back up this claim? Or are you claiming that someone got his hands on an Apple prototype and then modified it somehow? Does something in the design look inconsistent to you, as if Gizmodo added it or removed it? And what would be the motive for that? Surely it would be more profitable to them to show off the real thing?

I don't think Gizmodo has modified the pictures, nor have I expressed so.

I am saying simply, authentic 100% I don't believe. Because with Apple nothing is 100% until the keynote hits.

Edit - also, why are you so out on me, I know you are one guy who likes reason and thought, yet right now, you seem carried away by emotion or the story.

I think that this is the real deal. For now. I think that apple is still working on the phone ane things are changing. I would be willing to bet that the fact that the battery can come out is a prototype version. They are testing more than one battery type and it can be removed for now. I think that part will change. But for the most part, i think it is legit and real.

I hope that it is the real deal. I love the design and the changes they made to the aluminum sides. I cant want for the keynote.

I agree with your battery comment.

Employee who lost the phone: "Um Mr. Jobs Can I talk with you for a second?"
Jobs: What seems to be the problem?
Employee: Well I sort of......lost.....the 4g prototype....and Gizmodo found it....
Jobs: Focuses hard on employee
Employee: *bursts into flame*

Still, I'm surprised TheSpaz didn't see it. Or maybe he did but ignored it because he knew it wasn't running 2.2.1.

Well we'll never know, since he's gone on a long vacation.

As far as the removable battery goes, I was going by what others had said. So, if it doesn't have one, then NVM (and not being soldered is not what I consider removable).

Lol, Spaz would still buy it and return it.... either way. Still, no removable cover means no removable battery, and like aggie says, just because it's tapped doesn't make it removable.

He'd probably but it and put 2.2.1 on it.

If the new phone is only going to accept micro sim cards, what will I do if I am on a 30 day sim-only contract with Vodafone (UK) that I want to keep?

I was intending to buy an O2 payg handset, pay the £14 to unlock it, and then stick my Voda sim in.

I know it's early days, but I don't want to go on to an iPhone contract/PAYG package as I have a really cheap deal at the moment...

You can always cut down your sim card and make it a micro sim. Search the net and you can find templates and instructions on how to do this.

I'm in the "intentional leak" camp. Apple can get quite a lot of free buzz on this for a while.

Ahead of my post by a few was some discussion about the removable battery...
What was missed was the point that the battery in the prototype is removal to facilitate the possibility of testing multiple batteries. Not that the final

This is likely a "test mule" case. It may or may not be the final form factor.

Cheers,

Perhaps you are working under a false impression of what the word 'authentic' means. When describing documentary evidence such as a photograph, digital image, quotation, etc., authenticity refers to the truthfulness of origins or attributions. It has everything to do with their provenance. To say that these images are not authentic is to say that they are not what they claim to be: images taken by Gizmodo or its contributors of a prototype of the fourth generation iPhone that was created by Apple. It is to say that Gizmodo is trying to pass these images off as something they are not.

You seem to think that for these images or this prototype to be "authentic" it has to show the fourth generation iPhone exactly as it will appear when released; this is simply not true. Nobody has ever claimed that these are images and videos of a production model fourth generation iPhone. It has always been clear that these images are of a testing model which will likely differ in some ways, large or small, from the production model. To say that the images or the phone are not authentic because they are not something that they never claimed to be is completely unreasonable.

I am sorry if I seem to be attacking you. I do not mean to. That I am frustrated I will not deny, but the frustration stems from what I perceive as unreasonable persistence in a belief that this is somehow a hoax despite what I consider solid evidence and reasoned arguments that it is not. If that is not what you meant, I am sorry for the misunderstanding; it is, however, what you said. As you say, I do like reason and knowledge; but I also like the precise and correct use of language.

The part that stores data in the micro sim is the same as the regular sim card, that golden metallic smart chip portion. The rest is just bezel, you can modify it, may take a few tries but its not impossible. May want to buy some practice SIMs from ebay, i think they run about $2 a pop.

Does it look like the screen has a matte finish to it? unless that's an anti glare protector on it or some sort.
