most people will be appreciating the extra signal strength of the various radio modules due to the plastic back causing less interference, and consequently an increased battery life.

Except, the original iPhone had a plastic radome already. There isn't a need to make the whole back plastic.

I was a little surprised about the picture of the new phone from the end. The phone looks a lot fatter than I was expecting. The edges don't appear to be any thinner in all practicality. Also, this thing is just going to wobble every time you set it down. All and all, seems like a step backwards.

However, I get the 2.0 firmware on my sweet aluminum and glass model! the first gen phone plus new firmware will make it the best iPhone ever made. The only thing I'll miss is GPS. 3G is totally not worth the additional monthly expense and the lesser battery life.

Color Options

Not sure if this was known but after reading the reviews of the new iPhone ..

Like its predecessor, the iPhone 3G comes in two models distinguished only by storage capacity: 8 gigabytes and 16 gigabytes. The top model is available in black or white.

If you want white you gotta go 16mb - Which is the way to go.

Original iPhone with aluminum back = sexy as hell.

3G iPhone with polycarbonate back = ugly as sin.

Just my honest opinion.

Not that it matter to me, since mine is in a hardcase, but the back of the new iPhone represents a more unified design. I never could understand why Apple previously split the back into two materials.

It think originally Apple wanted the whole back to have the aluminum look, but they had to compromise for the antenna.

Now the whole black looks good, but the bottom line is to make sure to have the best material for the best reception.
