After reading through this whole thread I decided to pull the trigger and get the moto 360 in champagne. Can't beat the price at $149.99. I should have it tomorrow!
I ordered it from Best Buy. It's the only place that had the champagne color for that price. That's nice looking actually. Where was it $150?
Absolutely agree with this - looks strange and puts me off (although I won't consider a 360 until the flat tyre goes). Here's a photo of the rumored new 360. Adding lugs is a much needed improvement but the bands still feel inconsequential to me, almost like they're too skinny for that big hockey puck. If the display is going to be that large I think it needs wider bands.

It's definitely an engineering challenge but as long as they keep surrendering and choosing the 'oh well, let's just have a black void on the face' option, I'm not interested. Is it possible to have ambient light sensor without the flat tire on a circular watch display? To me the flag tire is inexcusable. But then I think this obsession with smart watches having to be round is silly.

And when Apple does make a round display smart watch (kinda like how they 'never' were going to make a bigger phablet sized iphone) we will just pretend that we didn't hate it before and will think it is the bees knees. The wasted Moto flat spot doesn't bother most people who own one, any more than the wasted black bezel sections on the Apple watch on all sides bother most of their owners.
I do like the fully round ones slightly better because sometimes I want a face that has some info down there.
That's only because Apple didn't do one
We all know, that if every other maker had stuck with a 1980s style rectangle flick-to-turn-on display, and Apple had instead been the sole maker to do an always-on round display, people would be singing the praises of how innovative Apple was.
The back is still plastic as it still supports wireless charging and wireless charging wouldn't work with metal. MKBHD has a video on the new 360 where he shows the back and it looks nearly the same as the previous generation device.Does anyone know of the materials used on the new Moto 360? Is the back still plastic? And are they still using gorilla glass or did they switch to saphire?
Well, the apple watch has a saphire back for wireless charging. And the Huawei watch has a saphire screen, at a higher resolution, for $50 more than the Moto 360. I loved my 1st get 360, but after a couple of months the screen was all stretched up and the back had 4 cracks. Will probably wait out this gen of android wear, as they still don't have speakers and are still using last year's snapdragon 400 along with 4gb storage. The back is still plastic as it still supports wireless charging and wireless charging wouldn't work with metal. Sapphire is nearly impossible to have at this low of a price point even with regular wrist watches let alone smart watches.
