I recently switched from iPhone 6 to Moto X. My main reason for switching is screen size. For me 4.7 inch was small(especially for web browsing). The Moto X has almost the same dimensions as iPhone 6(just a little wider) but has much bigger display. I have average size male hands and I can comfortably use Moto X with one hand for typing and other stuff. The phone is ergonomic and much nicer to hold. Battery life is about the same as iPhone 6. Camera is just crap. The sensor is good, but the image processing is pathetic. The camera takes a long time to focus and if move it a little it has to refocus. The low light performance is also bad.

The android lag is mostly gone in 5.0 but still it is not as fluid as ios. I considered lg g3 before but went with moto x as it has stock android. My biggest disappointment aside from camera is that now I can't buy apple watch. I was really looking forward to it

Camera isn't the greatest but can't say I agree on fluidity. I recently got my father the 6+ and I loaded a couple apps for side by side testing and the 6+ actually had stutters where my Nexus 6 did not such as CNET, Flipboard, GMaps, Plex etc. Not to say the Nexus was perfect because it is better at launching some apps such as the camera and dialer. My N6, if the call log is extensive takes a split second longer to load the images.

This is THE android phone I would get if, I left the iPhone.

Keep the reviews and impressions coming in guys!!!

P.S. Anyone using Moto Watch in tandem with this phone!?

No MotoX but Nexus 6 (Same difference). I'm a fan and I get compliments daily on the watch.

I have three of those apps on both and have no stutters on either a 6+ or Moto X 2014 here when opening or refreshing them.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
Moto X 2014

Last week I removed the cheap screen protector because it was scratched up beyond recognition making it hard to view the screen and I had a tempered glass on the way. Well, I just found a few hairline scratches and I have no idea how they got there. I've been very careful not to keep the phone in my pocket, opting instead to keep it in a side compartment of my tablet case. Pulled it out this morning and the scratches are very evident.

I've never experienced a phone scratch this easily before, especially only 15 days in.

Eek... Sorry to hear that. I had a similar issue with a Xperia Z2 after only 48 hours and It hadn't even been outside.

It may have been sand or grit in the pocket, sadly the worse things for phone screens - not that it's of any consolation at this stage.

l tried putting a tempered screen protector on my Moto X and had to bin it because of the curve in the screen - the tempered protector I bought didn't fit correctly so I've been using a standard one so far and I noticed a little scratch on the protector yesterday evening. Haven't taken it off though to see if there's anything underneath.

Yea, I assume it had to be sand that's why I was real careful not to keep it in my pocket. My thought process was remove the icky cheap screen protector and baby it till the tempered shows up today. Normally I wouldn't even consider it but I guess I got caught up in all the gorilla glass hype of how durable it is.

A quick Google search turns out that others are experiencing easy scratches as well.

Yeah sand is a fright. I'm at the beach 2-3 times a day so my car, my clothes etc are a haven to rouge bits of sand and grit. :(

Never believed the Gorilla glass hype for a second. I have a micro-scratch on mine below the earpiece. You won't notice it unless you shine line directly on it but its there. It knows its there and i know its there.

Curved glass might be good for overall feel but the risk of scratching and cracking is notably increased.

Frame rate stutters when scrolling. They're both smooth opening or redrawing.

The only time there's a stutter is when an app is trying to load data via a subpar connection and i'm already scrolling before its done. Otherwise its smooth as a baby bottom. Same story once the data loading/rendering is complete.

Agreed, and on iOS you won't be allowed to scroll until the page has been loaded past this problematic point.

Not sure about those particlaur apps but that is my experience with the browser

Mainly the messages app freezing with display issues i.e upside down or sideways

I use my phone heavily and I don't have any issues with the messages app. HOWEVER, that orientation issue is definitely a problem. Really annoying when you turn your phone on and everything is in landscape and won't rotate back to portrait unless you put it back to sleep and wake again. Happens at least 3 out of 10 times in waking the phone.

Really ? Not had that myself. I've had only 1 app cause me issues in regards to landscape and reachability and that was Google play newsstand. Occasionally an article gets confused in reachability or doesn't work in landscape when the next article will.

But in UI and other apps had no trouble with it.

Are you folks running 8.0.2 from just OTA updated 8.0 or running a clean 8.0.2 image? Just wonder by if there is some correlation. I'm running a clean 8.0.2 image and have pretty much none of the issues, but like I already said I also enable reduce motion as I prefer clean crossfade transitions and this may also affect landscape switching.

fredaroony clearly is but soureaver, are you running a third party keyboard? The only screen orientation hangups or glitches I ever experience on my 6+ are when I'm using Swiftkey as my keyboard. I get lag with the keyboard appearing (or not appearing at all) and subsequently screen not rotating. I like Swiftkey (keyboard of choice on Android) but the performance has been pretty awful on the iPhone so I uninstalled it. Since then, no more issues.

Just a thought based only on my experience.

I have had the same experience with Swiftkey. It is my fav on Android....but on my 6+ it is very temperamental. Sometimes it has just disappeared entirely. I hope the dev can get it fixed soon. :)

I am not running a third party keyboard. Just default iPhone keyboard.

On the nexus 6 (and I'm sure it's the same on the Moto X), I don't even use Swiftkey anymore either because the lollipop keyboard is pretty damn good.

Bummer...thought I might've solved the problem for you. Hope it doesn't persist or is resolved with an update.

I can almost guarantee the problem fredaroony had was caused by using Swiftkey. And I don't want to necessarily point fingers at Swiftkey as the cause of the problem because, in my brief experience, all third party keyboards that I've used so far have been a bit wonky, some to a greater degree and some less. Considering this, I'd guess Apple's implementation may likely have something to do with it.

You would like to think that a 3rd party keyboard couldn't the display turn upside down! It's one thing to get lag etc but display issues is something else.

The whole app freezes when this happens too

I feel your pain fred...there'd be times that the keyboard would pop up in landscape (if I used it in that orientation last) yet I was holding the phone in portrait, or wouldn't even pop up when I selected a text box and it would lock an app up..worst case was when using spotlight search because there's nothing else to select. I'd have to deactivate the keyboard or reboot entirely.

Upon removal of Swiftkey, no problems of this nature at all.

Honestly I don't know if that's possible. Not sure if Moto Migrate will do that.

You have to make a backup of your iPhone through iTunes onto your computer first. Then from there you can find the backup and pull the text messages from the backup. You will need another program to read that backup file though, just do a search to find the program. You won't be able to transfer any MMS'es though.

Moto migrate may be able to do it too, not sure though as I haven't tried it.
