Underpowered phone that sucks? When it was released 8 months ago, it had one of the top processors with the snapdragon 801, quad-core cpu at 2.5ghz and an Adreno 330 GPU. Not sure, where the 'underpowered' part comes in? And while you may think it sucks, many people don't.

I'm just glad it isn't running an awful skin on top, like Touchwiz, that eats memory for breakfast. Moto is the next best to Nexus when it comes to the OS.

And it is on sale at BB for $299, Verizon and AT&T variants.

If it comes with 4GB RAM, great, else take it back and add 4GB RAM.

Why? X 2014 did not need it and runs admirably. If the display resolution is increased with the next gen, battery size becomes that much more important but 4 GB. Ram will be a long shot.

The phones are fast enough nowadays. I hate reloading of web pages or applications. The more RAM there is, the better.

RAM has the biggest influence on user experience. Just look at G4 and S6. Initially S6 launched faster, but then the G4 absolutely crashed it. All because of how they manage RAM.

You know what, forget 4GB, give me 8GB RAM.

Yes but these run stock android (or as close to it) and do not even come close to the S6 or other Samsung devices with ram usage.

2gb in the 2014 moto X can open way more apps than the 3gb in a Samsung device.

3gb in the Moto X 2015 will be very sufficient. I have over 15 apps ready in the background on my N6 and multiple chrome windows and even with 'show cached processes' I have 1.1gb free

uploadfromtaptalk1433712101579.png

Given my S6 Edge would reload after say 4 apps open - I think it's safe to say you can't really compare Samsung's memory with a stock device.

3gb will be grand :)

But would it not be awesome if you had 2.1GB of free RAM? ;)

Look, we can discuss this for a long time. So I'll just say this. For some people, the deciding factor is the camera, for some it's the design, for others it's just the brand, for me it's RAM right now. I won't consider a new gen flagship at all unless it has 4GB RAM. I have a Moto and 1GB RAM on it is absolutely terrible, there is no multitasking at all. I want minimal refreshing of tabs, minimal reloading of applications.

The Moto X 1 and 2 have the nicest design of any Android IMO, and Motorola probably has the best customer service of any Android smartphone manufacturer (in the US at least). But they always ruin what they have with a poor display, poor battery life, a subpar camera and subpar audio output. Hope they don't ruin it again this year.

32GB RAM, and 1298371928371928TB of storage, a Hubble lens strapped on, the sun powering the battery and a screen that is more lifelike than me WOOHOO

Motorola event happening July 28th.

Probably see a new generation Moto X, Moto 360 (this'll be interesting!), and Moto G. And who knows what else...

Let's see if they can pull a Samsung; and not an HTC. ;)

It's likely just the introduction of the new Moto G that's been leaking everywhere.

But a new Moto X is definitely on my list of interested devices. Just want them to keep same form factor but make the screen quality / colour accuracy better and of course make the camera better but not just by bumping megapixels. I'd definitely go back from the Nexus 6 to the smaller Moto then.

Really? No Moto X or Moto 360? An entire event just for the Moto G?

That'd be disappointing! :(

And yeah... I don't think there's much of anything this year that'll pull me away from the S6. The best chance is the new Nexus 5. The iPhone 6S is always a possibility, too. And a distant third would be the new Moto X. As you said, they'd have to drastically improved the camera (it's got to be S6 level good. I can't go back!), improve battery life, and yes, as you mentioned, the screen as well. That's also a difficult thing to step back from on the S6. But boy... a less bloated and skinned Android sounds really tempting.

I really hope this event isn't just for the Moto G...

Yeah I hope it's not, but they could pad it out with Moto G and the fact it's going to customisable on Moto maker .... If it was for Moto X 2015 you think we would have seen some leaked hardware shots by now but so far nothing which is why I think it could be a rather low key announcement.

Let's just hope otherwise though :)

I think better ram management and better optimized apps would be better than just adding more ram. Remember, ram uses battery as it needs constant energy to be active, so more ram means the battery is drained quicker.

Most outlets seem to think its for both devices, based on the 'signature' on the invite (XOX looks like XGX).

There was a leak on Tuesday of purported X, G, and DROID device hardware as well. I can't see them have an event only for the G either. The real question though...do we get to see a new Moto 360?

Yeah there have been a few leaks. The new moto x doesn't look bad so far.

I'm really curious about the new 360.

I am in no rush to get into smart watches. I personally still love the classy time pieces that I own. However I agree with you the moto 360 could be really interesting this year. It could be the android wear watch to beat.

Another important reason why the Moto X needs to have a fighting chance at success is because it can't be all Samsung in the Android space.

Motorola can step into the hole that HTC is leaving behind. LG can, too.

It'll be better for Android users.

Totally agree with this. There needs to be another strong Android OEM to balance things out.
Hopefully Moto can come to the table with a great product with great cameras. Why is that most Motorola phones have average or "meh" cameras? It would be nice to see a metal Moto phone.

I can't see Motorola releasing a MotoX that tempts me from S6, but overall they make solid devices that are gimped by silly compromises. I also find their software to be uninteresting.

And Motorola seems like they are falling into the screen size trap. The MotoX should be 5.1" or smaller. Sure as hell not bigger.

Yeah I'd be happy with 5.1 or 5.2 and not bothered about 2k either (1080p is fine). I just want the display to be excellent. Have great brightness and contrast levels, great outdoor visibility and anti glare and for once in the Moto X a display with great colour accuracy rather than grainy oversaturated with poor outdoor viewing.

3gb ram is fine for me, didn't have any real issues with 2gb on my Moto X 2014.

However the camera sensor should be improved not just bumped up megapixel wise. Keep it 13mp but make it a great sensor with OIS and a 1.9/1.8 aperture

Make it stereo speakers on front like nexus 6 unlike the mono single speaker on Moto X 2014 and stick a 3,000 mAh battery.

Do that and I'll buy one on release.

They need to ditch the plastic rubberized feel too. I am not sure why they do not have a metal option for a Moto X phone. With Moto maker you can make some really awful color combinations. You would think they would offer a metal phone by now. Not a whole lot of hype around the next Moto X.....

My guess would be that using a metal rear panel changes the antenna dynamics considerably and what works for plastic or leather may not work for metal. I'd love to see one as well but considering this potential problem, understand why they may choose to omit the offering.

My greatest concern with Moto is that it's best days are behind it now that Lenovo is running the show. Lenovo phones follow a distinctly different philosophy and I'm just worried that they are going to steer the Motorola 'ship' in an entirely different direction. I certainly hope I'm wrong.
