I really don't like the current trend for larger and larger phones. My 2014 Moto X is as big as I'd ever want (if not slightly too big). I'm also suprised by the lack of USB-C.

:( Way too big for me. Its almost the same size of the N6 and that phone is huge.

So it does. So, it can't be just stock Android...?
I assume it's basically stock with Motos additions still supported much like HTC M8 GPE supported 3D camera features and such.

Think the only differentiator they are using is that it won't have any carrier garbage installed.

So got my Nexus 5 in the mail and it came rooted and the charger was defective. Deciding about just getting the Moto G 2GB of RAM one or just shelling out extra for the Play. Don't want to spend too much on an android device especially since I want to get a MacBook Pro and maybe save up to upgrade to a 6S+. It's sad my Nexus 5 wasn't as advertised.

Sorry about that nviz22, we're you able to get refund on the nexus 5?

Working on that right now. Thanks. I really like the Moto Play specs because it seems not like an overkill with the screen. Idk if it's worth it that much to shell out an additional $110 for?

Depends on priority is camera and battery life. I'm sure we will have proper cross product reviews shortly :)

Good luck with the refund :)

Thanks. Well I'll have to check my budget, but that phone sounds awesome with the same camera while having a more efficient battery and display combo.

It's going be between the X Style and the iPhone 6s+ for me.

I can't wait for Moto Maker to go live so I can play around with combinations.

I hope there's not any drama with tempered screen glass protectors this time, and I hope they step their accessory game up this time.

I almost feel like I have to buy this phone just to support motorola. I am SO HAPPY they are offering a pure, carrier free edition that works on the big 4. I also happen to think the phone looks gorgeous (I will be getting white with the gold accents).

It has been a long while since I've strayed from the Nexus and that makes me nervous (about software support). My fiance has a Moto X 2013 version on Verizon that still hasn't got Lollipop. Battery life on it also sucks but I love active display on that phone and the camera quick launch gesture is also really nice. The camera app also allows for easy adjustment of exposure (like Samsung and the iPhone). If battery life is ok (3000mah for 5.7 QHD seems a bit small) and the camera is as good as promised I'm going to have a hard time waiting for the Nexus.

Also this is the first 5.7"+ phone that is narrower than the iPhone 6 plus which I always considered to be very narrow for a phablet. It is smaller in both height and width than the iPhone 6 plus while having a larger screen. Neither the Note 4 (wider) nor the Nexus 6 (A LOT wider) can match that.

I think the play is the most intriguing phone of the three today for me too. Hope it comes to the U.S.

though if the pure edition /style battery life is relatively good, it would seem to be the better choice

I also think the Moto X Play would be the most interesting alternative. Fortunately it will be released here in Brazil in August.

DxOMark's camera review of the X Style (aka Pure): http://connect.dpreview.com/post/3318468090/dxomark-mobile-report-motorola-moto-x-style

With a DxOMark Mobile score of 83the Motorola Moto X Style achieves the third highest score in theDxOMark smartphone rankings, slotting in right behind the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and in front of the Sony Xperia Z3+.

1) S6 Edge
2) Note 4
3) Moto X Style/Pure

Not "world class" per se, but not bad either. Not bad at all. For further reference, current iPhone comes in at 5th and 6th for the Plus and regular 6 respectively.

I said it before and I'll say it again; Apple is being beaten on a number of fronts. They cannot rest this year either.
Until Google finds a more unified messenging app (and no google hangouts does not cut it). iMessage is the big trouble horse which ties many iPhone users to the Apple system.

As much as I use google services and owned all the android devices including first G1. I also carry an iPhone with me in addition to my android phones. In hospital reception sucks at many places. We need wifi messenging and it's easier to communicate via iMessage when cell phone don't work. And not everyone is given a hospital issued phone.

I think a 3000 mAh battery is like the G4, so I expect about the same level. The Play has a good enough processor since it supports 64 bit without being overpowered. With the Nexus life software, I wonder if Lenovo will support updates quick enough?

Whilst I like what Motorola have done in terms of price and specs, I'm not over the moon that they've gone away from the 5 to 5.2-inch space.

70mm width is about the limit for me in terms of one-handed usability so the S6 or 6S (?) have one less contender as my daily driver. Bigger devices get left at home a lot.

My current 'spare' phone is a 5.5 inch Find 7a, which is nice media-wise but that was a steal at £178 vs Moto Play at £299. Still a lot of value in last year's 801 flagships I think.

Great to see Moto going carrier free though at more reasonable prices than others. Just the size that's putting me off but I'm sure many will love the Style in particular.

I don't know whether this is carrier specific but a couple of recent android devices after putting in my sim card and setting up presented me with a surprising message.

That this messaging app has been enhanced and the carrier will actually use mobile data to send and receive group and picture messaging etc.

Basically delivering a similar end result as Apple users get with iMessage.

It occurred on my M9 and one of the other smartphones (I have had too many this year already to remember).

So there is a chance going forward that we will see a more unified messaging experience but aided by our cellular networks and a new messaging protocol support.

This would mean most messaging apps should they include this protocol could benefit regardless of oem

That is really awesome

I believe T-Mobile is the only one doing that (or at least something similar) here and it is a very recent thing.

Does that mean you can send via wifi too? (Rather than cell data) Probably a stupid question :p

I checked out the new Moto G today in the Three Store. Very impressive.

The guy working there had no idea about anything though, so I just took it from him and discovered stuff myself.

They only had the 8GB (£140), but it's a great size, shape and the camera seems a massive jump up in quality. The screen is surprisingly good, too.

It is just an absolute bargain.

The G camera is supposed to be the same sensor from the Nexus 6

fdrom engadget
"it's been said that it has the same camera as the Nexus 6. Turns out that's not the full story. Yes, the Moto G uses the same 13-megapixel Sony sensor as its much bigger cousin and a similar f/2.0 aperture lens. The differences lie in the way the elements around it are constructed -- the lens is loaded up with IR-filtering coatings that help the camera handle ambient light more intelligently. I haven't spent too much time with the thing yet, but early results are pretty impressive -- it more accurately exposed a photo of me in a darkish room than a similarly priced Samsung phone."

Is the 410 a 64 bit processor?

Aye

The g has me questioning if I really need a flahship

/tangent
There is something weird about going from 5" 1080p snapdragon 600 I have currently to 5" 720p snapdragon 410. It would basically be a side grade with probably better battery life just to get software support.

I would imagine it performs quite similar to a s4 with stock android. The 2gb model G at least.

If you want a flagship for the low, I suggest the X Play. Gotta see benchmarks though.
