Wow, we'll this certainly makes things tougher. Was originally going to preorder the Note 5, but now I may have to wait until I can hold these 2 side by side and make a decision then. Good
Job Moto.

that is truly a great precedent

now if they can update the phone without verizons approval now we are really talking!
That cannot be said enough! Did they list a release date yet for the Moto X Play?

It may be only nerds that care, but I will never buy a carrier branded phone. Instant nobuy. I didn't expect lenovo to push this mantra so hard and am pleasantly surprised

I just don't know how successful Motorola can be selling it only unlocked. If they had it in carrier stores and sold it unlocked like they did with the previous Moto X, they'd have a better chance.

Again, I love it and think it's ambitious and bold that they're not dealing with carriers (the benefits of this are obvious), but in terms of how successful these devices will sell... I don't know. I hope they do well, but I'm just not sure.

I hope the new X Style feels smaller than the N6. The N6 is a nice device but is too big (moreover too wide).

It does look a tiny hair thinner in that photo comparison.

I can't wait to see videos/sample pics of more size comparisons.

Here's some of the S6:

I think they are relying on pricing to get people to consider going off contract but I have the same worries you do as far as sales are concerned for sure. Will people realize how much better Android phones are without carrier involvement?

And damn that's big against the s6 :(

Yeah. We'll see how they do. Hopefully it works.

Yep I think your right.

Perspective. The s6 Edge 64gb locked to the carrier (only Storage size option here with carriers) here on a standard €40 per month Mobile contract over 24 months will still cost you €499 up front subsidised

The Moto X Style off contract / sim free will likely cost exactly the same €499 albeit 16gb (but with Micro SD cards support).

So an off contract flagship phone same price as Samsungs flagship on contract. If I buy off contract the equivalent PAYG tarrif from my carrier as the €40 on contract, would be around €20 saving me another €480 (the cost of the phone) over the same 2 year period.

That's quite significant saving all round. And when you look at the numbers like that it makes the X even more tempting as Samsung & Apple continue to push the envelope pricing wise each year.

Dammit...I might be getting 2 phones next month now! The N5 and the Moto Style :)

I'm going to resist the new MX. Thoroughly impressed, but trying to remind myself that it's too big for my taste; missing wireless charging; doesn't have as good a camera as the S6 (I adore this camera); probably not as good screen; and is missing fingerprint scanner.

Must keep repeating those reasons to myself over and over again to fight the temptation. ;)

For the remainder of the year, for me, it'll be the iPhone 6S or the new Nexus 5 that stands any chance of dethroning the S6.

Looking forward to your impressions of the MX!

Yeah, I got that bug creeping around my head too. I can get 3 phone the rest of the year, one will be an iPhone 6S for my wife, and the other I was planning on Note 5 and iPhone 6S, but this Moto is trying to squeeze it's way in. And at that price too!
