DxOMark's camera review of the X Style (aka Pure): http://connect.dpreview.com/post/3318468090/dxomark-mobile-report-motorola-moto-x-style

With a DxOMark Mobile score of 83the Motorola Moto X Style achieves the third highest score in theDxOMark smartphone rankings, slotting in right behind the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and in front of the Sony Xperia Z3+.

1) S6 Edge
2) Note 4
3) Moto X Style/Pure

Not "world class" per se, but not bad either. Not bad at all. For further reference, current iPhone comes in at 5th and 6th for the Plus and regular 6 respectively.

I said it before and I'll say it again; Apple is being beaten on a number of fronts. They cannot rest this year either.

Agreed! Hope they deliver on the promise.

The specs, the price point... all lovely.

I'm still ingesting and digesting, but can anyone fill in the blanks?

Dual front facing speakers?
Wireless charging? I know it's got super quick charge.
Onboard storage? 64GB option only? I know it's got expandable microSD

Yes to the speakers.

No wireless charging.

16-32-64GB with micro-SD card support.

3GB RAM.

21MP camera, 2.0 Aperture, dual flash.

3000mAh battery, non-removable.

Turbo-charging battery - up to 50% faster than the Galaxy S6!

153.9 x 76.2 x 11.06 mm
179g

TBH like MRU says, if I can get one for $400-450 (from the States), I would get it in a flash. That's the Pure edition. I'd do it. No brainer, that's like £250-280 or so. I'd sell my G4 and go for it.

*This is assuming the reviews are good. And it's still releasing in September, by which time the iPhone 6S may be able to teleport me places.

Looks pretty good. I hope battery life holds up. I am desperately in need of a new phone (Nexus 5 had an accident) so I'll be eagerly awaiting Sept for real reviews.

I imagine only have the one Pure edition (in the US atleast) is going to make updates a very good experience.

I just hope that Moto Display is still around with the switch to LCD from AMOLED.

Big bummer about lack of wireless charging! The Nexus 6 has it. Dangit. Cost saving measure?

Probably...

In the end, at that superb price, they had to focus on certain core aspects - style, screen, camera.

It's like the OnePlus 2 not having NFC - tbh most people don't use wireless charging and NFC, even if a lot of us geeks do! You can understand them dropping it to pass on the cost savings.

While still skeptical about camera performance (we've heard Motorola tout their cameras before), this is as close as close to the perfect Android phone for me as there ever has been. If I could tear myself away from so many of the Apple services that I use, this would be my phone. And a Pure Edition at that price?!

RE: Camera

DXoMark puts it right behind the S6/Edge. The new Moto X ties with the Note 4 for second place. That really is something! But I agree, I want to hear more reviews.

Personally, I must admit I'm quite tempted. The more I read about it, the more tempting it becomes. Pure Android goodness in such a monster package at such an amazing price point.

This will be hard to resist; even harder when the deals start rolling in later in the year or early next year. Motorola always has good promotions.

I think I might like the Play more, seems like that one isnt coming to the states though.

The style looks pretty good, given we have to wait until september I will probably wait to see the next nexus before buying anything

Yup, I want to see some real world usage reviews from multiple sources.

My bubble has been deflated a touch as well...TFT LCD display instead of AMOLED? So no more active display notifications as they currently exist? And how will this impact battery life, especially using a QHD display? I also wish it had USB-C, simply hate microUSB and with no wireless charging, this is a downer.

100% agree. Yes, pile on the complaints. This'll help remind me why I should resist it, cause I agree with all you said. For me, it's hard to leave the S6's camera and display (both best in class).

And there's no finger print scanner on the Moto X!

Thoughts on Motorola not dealing with carriers? I love the bold and ambitious move. It means no bloatware, no carrier-BS, no delays in software updates (that means they come directly from Motorola, correct?). ANd it's fully unlocked and Motorola dictates the price and deals.

BUT... this is also a huge gamble for Motorola. Are people ready to buy unlocked? Especially in the US... I don't know.

To be honest the Amoled panels Moto used in the past were not great. If it's a decent IPS TFT it might solve the poor colour reproduction of previous models. I'm sure they'll work something out regarding active notifications.

It may be only nerds that care, but I will never buy a carrier branded phone. Instant nobuy. I didn't expect lenovo to push this mantra so hard and am pleasantly surprised

Ordered my Moto G a little while ago. Here's my Moto Maker config:

(Black front, white back, red accents, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage.)

Looking forward to trying it out, seeing as I really enjoyed the first-gen Moto G w/LTE. Planning on returning this one within the 14-day return window.

Looks nice but I have to have two gigs, my G would not browse Chrome and play a podcast without crashing out the podcast app
