Impressions since about 4:45 PM last night.
The build quality feels great. Very solid phone. Curved design us awesome. Feels great in the hands. Only complaint here is that the buttons are too lose and rattle when the phone vibrates. Back geeks l feels good. Its smooth but not too slick.
Screen is great. Bright, plenty big and bright. However, I'm finding that ultimately that I still prefer LCD. I admit I am a huge screen snob. And i am bothered by the slightest issues. Here, it's reading text (jagged text when scrolling) on a white background and viewing in sunlight. Don't get me wrong this screen is really good.
When I opened the box battery was around 60 percent. This was 4:45. I pushed it hard to Almost 12 midnight. Lots of GPS a few photos etc. I would have charged it if I had a chance but was at a wedding. I was pleasantly surprised that it lasted those 6 hours and 40 something minutes. I predict impressive battery life for me.
Active display is great however, I find it becomes a little useless when you have multiple notifications since you can only interact with one. If you only have one or if you want to check the time then it's perfect.
Touch less control works okay for me. I ended up having to repeat the phrase multiple times. I think I'd be okay without it.
I don't have the new camera update so I won't talk about the okay to poor photos I got.
Phone back does get warm with use.
Surprisingly I don't care anymore about the color on the back. I can do without it. It looks nice though.
Almost ZERO stutter or lag!! Yes, finally. Thank you. Thank you.
Overall I really like this phone and its been the best android experience I've had on android so far even in this short time with it.
I wont be keeping it. I would recommend this phone to anyone though.
For me it's going up against the nexus 5.
If you buy a carrier version we all know updates will fall behind. We don't know how long they will take since the build is pretty much stock. Its bothering me already that I won't get kit Kat immediately. Lol
I paid $579 vs the hopefully $349-$400 that the nexus price will be.
An LCD screen. Its a personal preference and I value it even if I have to lose active notifications.
Wireless charging is something that I really want. Again. Personal preference.
Free shipping and returns I believe so that's awesome.
Okay that's plenty for now!
This is a pretty outstanding device, but when will AT&T users get the camera fix?
Great review, JUICEMAN. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it and I understand what few complaints you have. It's also completely understandable that you'd choose the Nexus over the X.
Hopefully you've seen why so many people like the phone, though, and I think you have. There's nothing wrong if it doesn't check off every box for you and you return it. At least you're giving it a good trial run and giving it a fair shot.
Thanks for the review!
I just ordered the moto x tonight. I have been using iPhone since it came out in 2007 but only had two versions. The original and currently the iPhone 4. So I think this will be a huge upgrade for me.
After iOS 7 pretty much killed the experience on my iPhone 4 I needed a new phone and figured why not try android this time.
I am on the t-mobile $30 pre-paid plan so all I could get was white or black with 16 GB but that should be enough for me as that's what my iPhone had.
Has anybody here ordered a custom MX yet?
I've only seen the black and white ones at the store.
Yup, using one right now. What did you want to know?

This is more of a general question but how is the phone on heating up during calls, streaming video usage, and web browsing? My biggest issue with the S4 was the overheating issues it had. And I don't mean overheating as in the phone shuts off, I mean does it become noticeably warm
Pictures? I haven't seen the various cool colors yet. How is the build on the custom ones?
Same issues with the Moto X. It becomes warm with heavy use. However I think it's minimized to the touch because of the soft touch matte back. It's noticeable but not significant at all IMO.

I have the olive back, metallic silver buttons and the black front. The build is great. No gaps or rough edges. On the back I only saw one tiny dot where there was color missing and it shows the silver color underneath. And like I mentioned before the buttons rattle when the phone vibrates. That kind of sucks.

Is it hot at all on the front of the phone near the earpiece? I just don't understand how the iPhone can be on calls for a very long time or stream WatchESPN and not heat up, yet every android phone I've tried does it
That is such a good looking phone. IMO the best looking Android phone on the market. Such a simple design - yet immediately recognizable. And Moto has the only good looking phone manufacturer's logo aside from Apple. (The big ol' "SAMSUNG" on my Note 2 is freaking unbearably ugly - and any logo on the front of a device is nothing short of a sin, anyway.)
Edit: chrome definitely still needs some work through.
What colors did you get?
Broke down and ordered a Moto X. I was waiting for the nexus but my rationale is that the unique features that the Moto X brings to the table will not be on the Nexus. Active display, quick capture, touch less control, the excellent form factor, color customization etc.
Anyone have the new update with the camera improvements? How is it?
I had the choice of either black or white. I chose black.

So you ordered it on Sept 26 and received on Sept 28 thru motomaker?
That's fast...
Ordered 9/25 and got it 9/27 using moto maker. Estimated delivery was 9/30 but FedEx called Friday and left it at my apartment front office. Pleasant surprise.
this thing keeps turning the screen on while it's in my pocket.. I'm confused.
Really? How do you know? Is it also unlocking?
because I pull it out of my pocket and the screen is on. it pocket texted someone today. I have checked all of the options I can find about notifications turning the screen on. I am using the smart notifications.
Hmm I haven't had that problem but you do have the option to turn of active notifications. I know thats not a good solution.
