Movies Anywhere doesn't stream in 4K, anywhere - pretty sure that's correct!

Yes you are right. Movies Anywhere does not stream in 4k. However, I was thinking about workaround. LG OLED TV's have the LG Tru 4k Engine Pro built-in which attempts to upscale anything that's not streaming in 4k through the TV to 4k. The conversion is live and seemless as you watch whatever you are watching. If the TV had a Movies Anywhere app, I'm thinking the non-4K movies would get upscaled when watched.

Your TV would have the Vudu app. That DOES stream 4K Dolby Vision. As long as you link a Vudu account in MA, you'd get the same movies available in an MA app.

Yes that's sounds great. I am totally new to Vudu. I just created the account today. So I will definitely be checking it out.

Yeah, Vudu has nice app on the LG OLED. Any of the their UHD titles will be in Dolby Vision for you!

I feel like I am losing my mind with this. Now several movies are now showing 4k in main banner but when played and a swipe down, only show HD where yesterday they were 4k such as Jupiter Ascending, Alien Covenant, Mike and Dave, etc.....

How did you get those titles into iTunes? Via MA? And if they were via MA, do you own them in 4K elsewhere?

4k in Vudu with Jupiter and 4k in ITunes over weekend on others. All played in 4k yesterday, went through every movie and now today it has all changed.

I know I've had the issue as well. I have my 4K Pacific Rim as UHD in Vudu and it was/is 4K in iTunes. However last week Thursday and Friday it refused to play in 4K on iTunes. Saturday played fine.

I've given up on iTunes 4K. Can't deal with not knowing if it's going to play in 4K or 2K or 1080p from day to day.

Apple stated any movies HD would be upgraded to 4k if available, no exceptions stated except obvious of Paramount/Lionsgate movies. They should honor this on all movies and then if they want to place exceptions, go ahead but only moving forward. Ports ijn from Vudu to MA to ITunes should all be included because nothing stated they were not.

I agree....but sadly it's looking like the deal between Apple and the studios will prevent this. I do think Apple needs to be clear about this, and correctly list movies as either HD or 4K.

You case here though is just the Apple servers not giving you 4K right now. Don't know why....but because you do have 4K in Vudu, you should be getting 4K.

It's like they are turning switched for 4k/HD on and off. Checking multiple forums and this seems to be affecting a lot of people, will just have to wait to see how it ends up.

Ok so I have my spiderman homecoming UHD disc and code. I want to have iTunes and Vudu UHD copies. Where should I redeem? If I go to Sony redeem site you have a choice of redeeming through MA, Vudu, or Sony pictures store (don't have an account but can create one).

Doesn't matter. I'd probably redeem it on vudu. It will sync to the 4 services. Apple will upgrade it to 4k anyways.

Thanks. I’m sure multiple methods may work but after reading some of the discussions on AVSforum I wound up redeeming through Sony store after creating an account and linking it to my UV account. Some feel this may better lock in the UHD rights. Well it did work. Immediately showed up in VUdu as uhd. Didn’t port initially to MA but I disconnected and reconnected my Vudu account then it showed up in MA and iTunes. iTunes is also playing 4K/DV. So all good.

This is a brand new service and it’s going to take them quite a while to get through all the kinks. No sense in fretting about this. Sit back and enjoy it for what it is right now. Same goes for iTunes 4K streaming.

Anyone tried to redeem the HD code for "Heat"? I redeemed it into iTunes, but it won't port out anywhere else like MA or VUDU.

Porting may still be slow at times. Have you had anything port out of iTunes since you linked? If possible you may want to disconnect and reconnect to force things.

I am seeing the same. I redeemed an iTunes code for Heat months ago but the film hasn't ported over to MA. I checked MA and it is a supported title, so I'm not sure why it isn't being recognized as purchased. MA shows the buy button on the title page (https://moviesanywhere.com/movie/heat-directors-definitive-edition). Would appear to be another issue w/ KeyChest.

Is anyone here maintaining a list of titles that have issues?

Yeah, I tried unlinking iTunes, Heat still doesn't port out. At the same time I redeemed Heat in iTunes, I also redeemed Sound of Music BD code, and it ported out just fine. And they're both from Warner IIRC.

Ok, was just checking to make sure you did have things porting.

So I have Heat originally in Vudu and it ported to MA fine, but does NOT appear in iTunes. So seems like it's another iTunes movie issue.

Yup, weird. This is the most frustrating part... I was hoping that we could just pick a single redemption platform, and be guaranteed success. But that does not appear to be the case. My #1 priority platform is iTunes/Apple TV 4K. But we now know that you basically have to redeem Sony 4K titles via VUDU, if you want them to drop into iTunes at 4K. Redeeming via SonyPictureStore.com/myuv.com will only push the HD version to VUDU (if VUDU doesn't have the 4K version), which means your iTunes only streams HD, even though the main page banner info might correctly display your 4K entitlement.

Has anyone here been able to complete the set up of a new Movies Anywhere account within the last 2 days - i.e., create and verify it such that they could use it?

I've been trying to set up a new account. It lets me set it up and sends me a welcome email, but the email doesn't have a link to follow to verify the account. When I try to login with my new account, it tells me I still need to verify it. I request a new activation email but I never receive one.

I've repeated this process with 3 different email addresses. Each time it tells me I've successfully created an account, but that I need to verify it. Multiple times I ask for new activation emails and it seems to accept the requests, but I never get additional emails (other than one welcome email for each email address). I've tried logging in and requesting activation emails through the iOS app and through the website from multiple devices. I've also made sure that the emails aren't being diverted to a junk / spam folder or held up by my email provider.

I've also tried to contact support through in-browser chat and through email. Each time I've gotten a generic email stating that they received my inquiry and will get back to me shortly, but I haven't gotten any further response. I'm also fairly certain that I'm visiting the correct website.

Has anyone else had issues trying to set up an account? Or does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

I have an LG Oled and it does a really nice job of upscaling. But you will not get really 4K (including "2K Intermediary) quality via an TV Upscale.

Does the Apple TV 4K do a better job of upscaling than the LG OLED?

I think there is something wrong with Blade Runner, because my HD copy from Vudu only made it as far as MA, but it's not available to me in iTunes. Will have to look into this.

FYI. MA support have gotten back to me and confirmed they are aware that Blade Runner (Final Cut) did not port over to iTunes properly. Access was mistakenly granted to Daffy Duck's Quackbusters instead. I don't believe MA have the ability to remove a title from any of the retailers (could be wrong about this though), so Apple will need to design and deploy the fix to those w/ this issue.
