I love usb-c but it’s not enough for me to upgrade to it and it’s not enough difference for me to make a decision based off on it on a phone.

It’s usb-c is great though… all of my gadgets are usb-c except for iPhone.

Steam deck
Switch
iPad mini
Ipad pro
2 Anker batteries
Work laptop
Dji drone

Two cables in my house to charge those and it’s great.

On the other hand consumers get their 30 cents worth and more with MFI. Look at the mess USB-C cables are and look at MFI Lightning cables. USB-C cables are getting better but it's still a mess. From the start MFI Lightning cables did what you expected them to do.
Who else but Apple could finally clear up all the „mess“ with USB-C cables?

Oh the expectations I‘m having. I mean, just look at those specs!

The only reason I stick with Apple is because of iOS. I use an Android device for work and it stinks.

If iOS was universal, I would probably use a Pixel 6A purely due to aesthetics as Apple phones are not exactly pretty compared to some Androids.
Really? I personally think the apple phones look much better and more aesthetically pleasing than all the android phones on the market. I guess looks/aesthetics are subjective though.

They are by no means ugly and are still attractive however I think Samsung (since the S8) and Google (since the 6 series) phones all look better than iPhones.

Apple had the best looking devices up until 2013 with the 4/4S and 5/5S blowing away all competition. Modern iPhones are all generic looking with slightly different camera modules year after year. Perhaps I am just bored with Apple’s design aesthetic. I did welcome the squared edges but that’s about it. I am here for iOS though as Android is trash compared to it, but that’s just my opinion.

That’s fair!

I’m actually hoping apple keeps their current design as I really like it compared to the other phones out there. I’m definitely in agreement with you on iOS though. The look and feel of iOS is just so clean. Hoping they can just get these little here and there bugs sorted out in either the next iOS 16.X or iOS 17 release.

Good idea, I'll do my thoughts as someone who switches between the two OSs fairly frequently. Currently using a Redmi Note 10 Pro

Pros of Android
  • Exceptional value. 120Hz 6.67" AMOLED, 1200 nits, HDR10, 1080p screen, 5000mAh battery, 33W fast charging, SD slot and dual SIM, IP53, 108MP 1/1.5" main camera sensor, stereo speakers, headphone jack all for for $300.
  • App flexibility. App not available in your region? Can easily be found outside Google playstore. Saved me a few times.
  • USB-C, just need one charger.
  • Fingerprint sensor more convenient than FaceID.
  • Notification system is better.
Cons
  • Mix of Xiaomi and Google accounts and settings makes everything very confusing. Same issue with a Samsung, Motorolla, etc etc. Pixel is better in this regard as it's just pure Google.
  • USB-C I find to be less reliable than Lightning. Both my Androids have had issues with intermittent charging down the line. Lightning feels like a more robust connection, never had an issue.
  • Terrible support compared to iPhone. Even $1k plus flagship Android phones only get 4 years of OS updates max. My Redmi will get about two years of OS updates in total. However at only $300, I can just sell and buy a new mid-range Android when it runs out of support.
  • Apps feel less polished, e.g. not full utilizing the whole screen.
  • As a mac user obviously iPhone just integrates much better. iCloud, universal clipboard, airdrop etc.
Oh yes it’s much better when one has all apple devices.

Iphone
Applewatch
Mac
appletv
iPad
I'm sure it is but I unfortunately (or fortunately?) don't have a need for appletv, watch, or ipad. Just a phone and computer for me. When I went from iPhone to android the only thing I missed was universal clipboard. I like for my note taking app and open browser tabs to sync between phone and computer and having an Android isn't a problem on that front.
Why not? These are great devices!!!

It’s proven by fact android has more malware and less privacy. Other than that it’s mostly personal preference. I’m sticking with iPhone because it is so well integrated with my HomePods, appletv, Mac and no one comes close to iPad yet

Of course android hardware has gotten better, still not for me. Maybe security and privacy will get upgraded too. LOL. Googles whole business model is monetizing your personal information. So is there anyone who believes android will get more privacy and security?
Apple's business model is nickel and dimeing you. I don't enjoy that. If Google can make 5 cents by showing me an ad, I'm ok with viewing an ad.

The Lively/Jitterbug products have a specific target audience. The senior population and also vision impaired. I'm a little bit of both. I have family members with iPhones and the screen is impossible for me to see. I have 10 inch tablets, iPad and Android and push the fonts as high as possible.
I've used Gmail for decades and it works very well. I grow tired of people who claim Google is evil.
Tim Cook wants to frighten everyone about security while digging deep into your pockets.
I don't care for Samsung or even Lenovo.
I'm happy with my Nokia T20 and would consider the Nokia brand for a smartphone someday, should that day ever come.

Fingerprint vs FaceID is a difficult one. I love the side mounted fingerprint reader that's integrated into the power button of my Redmi. As I pull it out of my pocket, my thumb just subconsciously feels for the power button and I press it. By the time it's out in front of me it's already unlocked. As you say it isn't as reliable as FaceID, however I got annoyed with FaceID being slow and having to point the phone towards you to unlock. So on balance, I prefer the side mounted finger print sensor.
I think it’s just personal preference as to what works best for you. Just like you put your finger on your phone as you pull out of your pocket, I don’t have to make an intentional movement to use Face ID. I put the phone down and look at it as if I’m going to use it and it just unlocks. I probably hold my phone around 20 inches from my face because it’s just a comfortable distance for me. I think maybe some people hold their phone further away so this might be a problem but I’m not sure. It takes a half a second to unlock but it takes me half a second to figure out what I want to click anyway. I won’t complain if they make it faster though.

Well exactly, it’s a mess. does this cable support charging on a MacBook for 100w or just iPhone? I think Apple will fix this once they’re iPhone goes to USB-C. Right now they’re in this weird transition phase where the main product which is the iPhone is not USB-C. I feel like they are testing it on their other products that ship in smaller numbers just to figure out what they need to do when they bring it to the iPhone.

Apple isn’t the first to do anything that I can think of. When they implement something they usually wait and do it correctly. I feel like they are going to have different spec cables for different uses. They will have the regular charging cable for the regular iPhone, but perhaps a more capable data transfer cable for the Pro models. Of course this is just my hopes because I don’t know what Apple will do.

Well, if you’re happy with selling your information and being an advertising subject, then google is the best option for you. There is no one-size-fits-all for products. Everyone has different needs and wants. I don’t want to be an advertising subject so I will stick with my iPhone. This doesn’t mean you have to copy me or your choice is somehow worse because it’s different. I drive a silver car and you probably don’t. That’s OK 🤷‍♂️

I've been using a loaner Iphone for a few days, coming from Samsung. The S20+ has both in-screen fingerprint and face ID. I have to admit Apple's face ID works much better and is much quicker. Especially how it works with 1Password for authentication.

I actually was thinking of switching from Samsung to Iphone because of the USB-C. I hate the MFi games Apple is playing though. Just give the pros Thunderbolt. You don't need to make 30 cents per cable Apple.
Lol you mean the MFi games that were confirmed by…… Some random Twitter users?
I know it does sound like something Apple would do but… Come on, the iPhone is still half a year away, and any restrictions like that would be partially software based…
An Apple software doesn’t leak like their hardware.

What do you expect when you post this poll on Macrumors.com? Obviously it's going to be majority of pro-iOS users! Post the same on a Samsung or Android website, 99% sure Android wins!

I am a fan of FaceID as well. But i would like to have it get to my homescreen on my 14 PM without me having to swipe up.
Because if I have to touch my iPhone to use FaceID what is the difference between that and some kind of under the screen TouchID at that point.

You moving to android wont make apple change anything, if you like android more, buy an android, you dont have to tell everyone about it.

For me reliability. Fingerprint works a little more than half the time for me. If it's something I need to use multiple times a day it needs to work at least 95% of the time for it to be not annoying. I think some people have better luck with fingerprints so maybe it's not an issue for them. When fingerprint fails then it asks for the passcode and that not only takes longer but is not a good idea to use in public.

Touching the phone isn't an extra step for me because when I unlock my phone I'm already touching the screen to do something. I'll admit my wallpaper is pretty so those times I just want to unlock it to stare at the wallpaper I have to do an extra step 🤣

I know the swipe up is annoying to some but I think it's because Apple wanted you to make a purposeful gesture to unlock your phone. Meaning you did something telling it to unlock. I don't think just looking at your phone is good because it's possible you could unlock it unintentionally. My phone sits on one of those MagSafe stands on my desk so if I looked it's way it would unlock. Of course touching a fingerprint reader could be by accident but it's much less likely than just looking at it.

Face ID is a trademark for Apple's face unlock. Your Samsung would have some type of face unlock but from my understanding android phone face unlock can be fooled with a picture. Maybe they fixed it with the newer Samsung phones. I have an older Samsung phone and it warns me face unlock isn't secure.

Do you think Apple Face ID is faster than the in screen Samsung fingerprint reader? I thought that was supposed to be faster? I love 1Password till it randomly asks for my master password 🤣
