Can just confirm that I have HS 10.13.3 and the Firmware MP51.0084.B00. And have so for a while. So I have not updated my OS.

No, not the combo update, the full installer.

So, that basically means a clean install then, am I right? Not sure if it's worth it since everything seems fine now with my current FW running RX 460.

What does the new FW do? Does it conflict with RX 460/RX 560 PC GPU's?

its only a clean install if you format your hard drive first. Running the full installer will just install the OS over the existing OS but leave your data intact.

At this moment in time no one knows what the new firmware adds or takes away. we are all just testing and speculating.

You can run the firmware updater from the full installer without actually installing the OS and a clean install isn't necessary.
As for what it does? Nobody seems to know. There are firmware updates for most computers with this update.

So, what does that mean if I am already running 10.13.4?

So, you can run the firmware update separately without installing the OS? I am already running on 10.13.4.... So, running the FW updater would be the only thing I can do, I think.

Ugh... I don't want a Deja vu or worst when updating to 10.13.2 broke sleep on RX 460....

I’m assuming this is the Intel Xeon firmware update for Spectre & Meltdown. Have not seen any release notes about it yet...

You should be able to use the combo installer even if you’re already on 10.13.4.

Seems that the microcode didn't change, still 0xF on @LightBulbFun CPUZ screenshots. The updated Meltdown/Spectre microcode is 0x1E/0x1C on Dell servers with similar config.

So there's a 7870 EFI Rom out there? Does anyone know if you can flash this onto a W7000?

It's the same HD7950 EFI that everyone uses, works with HD7870/R9 270X too.

Wow, that's awesome. Sorry to derail - thanks for the heads up. I'm hoping I could put it onto a W7000 in slot 3 and then have a Vega or Polaris dual slot GPU in slot 4. I'll keep you all posted when I get the hardware.

Does it work on the 4GB 270x or only the 2GB?

Only tested with 2GB ones, works really well. You could ask about 4GB ones on netkas forum, maybe someone else knows.

Should means virtually nothing. You should still able to run the 10.13.4 full installer to get the firmware update.

Decided to go for it. IDK, if, it's just me, but, I always get nervous when doing FW/BIOS updates. LOL!

But, everything seems fine. RX 460 still works and sleep still works. Phew!

So, what did it do? Someone mentioned microcode... how do you check the microcode anyway?

Thanks for the info as I would have never known that the boot rom firmware did not get updated properly.

I had done the normal check for updates via the app store and it went from 10.13.3 to 10.13.4 but kept the same boot rom version.

So I went back in to the app store - searched for "macos high sierra" - selected download - and then it prompted to do the firmware update.

I downloaded the full Installer. Ran it just to install the FW update. I then used the Combo Updater to update from 10.13.3 to 10.13.4.

I wouldn't have known it it wasn't for this thread - ThanksUnknown.jpeg
