Actually, not true.

I just installed Mojave on my 5,1 and it told me it had to do a firmware update first.

I've now got MP51.0085.B00.

It is true. You need to provide more info. Did you have 0085 before you installed Mojave? What exact beta of Mojave did you install? Was it a DB or PB? Do you have an EFI GPU installed?

Only if you installed a previous version of Mojave, on the current one (DP4/PB3/18A336e):

Finnaly had some time to investigate the 31 microcode.

Searched all of my macOS installers backup and found that 31 is the microcode version that Apple installed with Mojave PB1/18A314K.

The microcode date is June 9 and it's size is 8,5MiB, with shasum
c833adeab47e44b2672c333a0f9ce9864b259db6.

Next I've tried to install this microcode on my dual MP running 10.13.6 using ucupdate -m command, but after I reboot my Mac, it crashed multiple times.

So, at least here, it's not safe to just copy and install the new microcode from 18A314k. Something else is needed.

Anyone have troubles installing Windows 7 July security updates? It crashes with BSOD, not even able to boot safe mode - it's stuck on "Please wait...".

It might be some microcode issue. I've tried on 87, now I'm on 89, but not willing to risk again.

With BootROM version 87, I've had all sorts of trouble with Windows, none with 89. Try again with 89 when you have time.

Downloaded Developer Preview 5 to check for firmware and microcode updates and it's the same MP51.0089.B00 BootROM and microcode shasum,
e4a3e90cbb0bcf6462297d29bd92058b62bd10e0, as 10.13.6.

Sigh... thanks for checking, but with each beta where there's no additional guidance on video cards makes me worry we're not getting anything :(

If Apple documents on a support page what are the steps for updating the BootROM, tell that FV2/Bootscreens are not supported anymore with no EFI GPUs, will be a win.

A win? I feel like that is the absolute minimum they could do. For sure they cannot release Mojave as it is now with no instruction to people as to how to get around the "remove all non-metal GPUs"/firmware update loop.

I care perhaps more than most because FV2 is an important feature to me, as is the ability to easily get to bootcamp and back. The solution for me will be to use my MVC 750 Ti, but that is of course dependent upon NVIDIA web drivers which is annoying at best.

I was (and still am, sorta) really hoping that this was the opportunity to get a modern, fully functional AMD card for the cMP.

I agree with all that, but I honestly don't have any hopes. If Apple document all the problems and what you have to do to circumvent them, will be a win on my book. Anything else is a big bonus.

You can do a clean install with startosinstall and bypass the firmware check, or delete the MP51.0089.B00 from the firmware folder, but I don't know if there's a way when you update from PB3 to PB4.

PB3 to PB4 should be an AppStore update, from memory, no firmware update via AppStore update for cMP yet.

I can confirm that Public Beta 5 appears to be the same exact build (18A353d) and same bootROM, 0089.
Could you please check what's the PB5 macOS Installer version? 14015 or 14016?

Where would I find that? I did the update via the Software Update Prefpane.. there's no installer in Applications and the one in CoreServices is the same old 6.2.0 from High Sierra..

There is no cMP BootROM contained in the appstore update. Your last post about BootROM version 0089.B00 for PB5 cause the confusion. Only the full installer has that.
