I didnt select wide in the app. I forgot that haha, It works now. No difference in low light performance though, and having the top bar constantly in screen is annoying too.
I thought your deb only chanced some plists and didnt add an app.
The point in having an app is the ability to quickly
- switch back to the default mode (in many cases, you will want to prefer that - for example, if you need the image stabilization or shoot sports under lower light). I too frequenly switch between the two modes, depending on the scene I'm shooting ("do I need the wider FoV?", "Is it almost pitch dark, where the additional low-light performance enhancement would help?" etc.)
- switch between encoding bitrates. You don't necessarily need 17 Mbps to encode a video with little movement (e.g., one shot from a tripod with few and distant subjects moving - a typical, say, conference recording) - then, you can decrease the bitrate to even 1/8th of 17 Mbps to conserve a LOT of storage.
