I'm finding a VERY annoying issues with Apple Music on my M1 iPad Pro.
Playback of songs in my playlists (created on my iPhone, both signed into the same iCloud account) and using AirPlay on the same WiFi network (not simultaneously of course) ... ONLY the iPad freezes when the next song on the playlist is supposed to play.

Freeze right at the beginning. I have to move the track slider for the playback to begin. repeat playlist is on, turned that off, power-cycled the iPad same issue. Happens on ALL my playlists for songs I've had for almost a year now.
I have this same issue (mostly) from my Mac, but it sometimes happens from the iPhone, too. (Not tried the iPad.)

For a long time I blamed the Music.app, but now I'm leaning towards my Bluesound enabled Powernode as the main culprit.

It I airplay to the Bluesound AND an airplay enabled Yamaha dumbspeaker, I have no issues. Just airplaying to the Powernode and it behaves just as you describe, quite consistently after a few songs.

The Icloud Music Library issues (metadata reverted, albums splitted/deleted...), its a server side problem that affects Catalina, Mojave, Big Sur and Monterey. Still not fixed according to Apple. This have been going on for quite a while now. Unbelievable , since it renders Icloud Music Library unusable... a feature that we pay for.

Oh well.

You may be onto something here because I’m using playback using airplay 2 onto my Sonos one or Sonos roam. I’ve not experienced this locally on my iPhone nor iPad.

2 different users, most likely various tracks artists etc, and 2 different brand speakers implementing AirPlay 2, beginning to wonder if the API has a bug

knock on wood yet again, but haven't been meta-trolled by 1.2.3.56 yet

update: everything was working fine for the past couple days. Today I deleted an old uploaded album to try and re-upload i to match and get the lossless version, and then all hell broke loose. Older albums that were fine merged old uploaded copies with the matched versions, the ones i deleted this morning keep re-appearing, and ratings are totally messed up on half of the stuff i was listening to this week.

So uploading really screwed with the system.

Still broken, dysfunctional and unpredictable mess. This is really sad. Music and photos are our 2 main reasons we got a new iMac setup in the house and our music collection is so frustrating to try to access now. Not only the poor design choices and lapses of missing features, but the metadata bugs are killing me. And now the latest issue is connecting to our Airplay speaker works sometimes, doesn't work sometimes and often beachballs the Music app and I have to force quit. Guess we have to hold out hope for the next major release after WWDC now, I don't expect them to do anything to fix this given this pattern. grrr!

Did the mini player stop displaying the track titles for anyone else? I just upgraded to Monterey with 12.3. It just looks like this permanently now:

Any tricks to get the song title to display again?

Edit: Full screening the app then exiting back to the mini player works. Ha, ok then.

I was going to say! That’s pretty worthless other than pause/play ?

If you resize the Mini Player window, it should show the album art.

total mess here, apple Music claims it can't find the music & tv library on my (usb connected) main iPhone anymore and therefore it won't sync at all. I turned off iCloud music library and will never ever use that again, that's for sure. (it just synced some random stuff and made some duplicates and mostly didn't send things from my library to my phone)

updating my iPhone to the latest iOS now, but am afraid that I probably will have to wipe the entire phone to get it be recognized by apple music again... *sigh*

Recently started using Apple Music, coming from Spotify. The Music app is so buggy, I'm not sure how it is still in this state after this many years. So many frustrating bugs that make it annoying to use.
  1. In an album, select any of the tracks so it is highlighted pink. Now right click on any other track and try using "Play Next" or "Play Later". The track that gets queued is the highlighted track, and not the track you right clicked.
  2. Queueing a track while the current track is approaching the end (~5-10 seconds) will just not work. It will just start playing the next track that was originally queued.
  3. A bunch of the cards or items cannot be right-clicked? Instead there is a "..." button. This is a Mac app, why are right-click actions replaced with small buttons? Examples in an artist: latest release, top songs. Examples in search: recently searched, top results, songs.
  4. Playing an Apple Music artist will not show a queue of the songs it will play. I like to see what's coming up and rearrange it if I want.
  5. Why aren't artists shown for tracks in a playlist? There doesn't seem to be a way to go to the artist either, I have to "Show in Apple Music" and then tap on the artist link.

Because the Music team doesn’t give a sh*t about macOS… They just took the iOS/web view with no change to fit Mac standards… and it has been the case for years…
iTunes was crap, but we could expect that as it had a lot of shared code between macOS and Windows, so that explained the lack of native component… But now they have succeded in making something even worse than iTunes that was already a shame… I didn’t know it was even possible.

Not sure if it's related to the updated macOS or starting fresh on a new computer, but the sidebar no longer resets it's width each launch.

Does anyone have an issue with playback when using Apple Music on multiple devices (not at the same time)?

If I play music on my Mac and later switch to another device like on my iPhone, coming back to the Mac will show a "stopped playing due to playback on another device". Now if I continue playback on the Mac when I'm no longer playing on my iPhone, it will only play for a few seconds before the track goes silent. The seek bar continues to show it is playing, but there's no sound. I have to play the track again or hit next track for sound to come back. What the hell?

No not at all in my regular playing from one device to another.

However, I experienced this only once just not too long ago. Here is how: I purchased Apple AirPods Max, and the vendor sent me a used pair, that was still registered in "Find My" to someone else. They showed as "Robert's AirPods Max - Find My". I tried to at least test them how they sounded, but music played for just a few seconds, and then it was silent, seek bar was still moving. I sent the headphones back and got a brand new one.

So, in your case, try to sing out/in of your Apple ID and see if it helps.

I'll try the Apple ID thing and report back. It happens to me even with the speakers.

Totally an unimportant question in the grand scheme of things, but did 12.3 bring back the option to hide the Apple Music service in the Music app like pre-Monterey? I don't subscribe to the service but still use the app to manage my digital music collection so it's just taking up space for me. I recall reading this was brought back for one of the later betas but haven't seen confirmation if it made it to the live version yet.

Good evening.

Please help?

I keep all of my media (music, videos +/- music, etc) on an external hard drive. All works well-ish.

For reasons, not unconnected with the troubles in Ukraine, I wanted to re-watch a stunning series called “The World at War”, originally broadcast by ITV in 1973. I found that the whole series (26 chapters) could be downloaded from the Web Archive (https://archive.org/details/the-world-at-war-1973), which I did and successfully downloaded everything, which came through in a ZIP file. Expanding the file gave me all Chapters, with unnecessarily long file names. I truncated each file name (e.g. “The World at War (1973) - S01E01 - A New Germany (1933 - 1939) (1080p BluRay x265 Silence).mp4” to “S01E01 - A New Germany (1933 - 1939).mp4)

I want to import all 26 chapters into my Music App. When I did this, regardless of the file, renamed to my system or otherwise, the file was copied to my hard drive OK, but the Title of each file was re-named to “The World At War ( 1973) - https://archive.org/details/the-world-at-war-1973” (this was obtained by Getting Info of the file from within Mac Music). From the Get Info, the File details tab indicated that the file was located as “The World At War ( 1973) - https___archive.org_details_the-world-at-war-1973.mp4”. My attempts at renaming the files were gone and also, the playing order of the 26 files (S01E01 through to S01E26). They seemed to be in a completely random order.

Am I correct in thinking that there is a significant amount of metadata associated with each file, which keeps pointing to the archive.org site? Is there any way that I can either import the files with my renaming attempt retained and keeping the proper playing order within the Music app (v 1.2.3.56) on my desktops (OS Monterey 12.3 Beta, either M1 Mac mini, or i7 MacBook Pro)?

Sorry for making this a long post, but I wanted to give maximum information to get this sorted. And maybe it is a bug?

Many thanks in advance.

@Scirroco Why not import to TV app, it has proper tag editing for movies and series.
@vddobrev. Thank you very much for your advice. I tried it - imported all my 26 (my renamed) files into TV app and same problem as with the Music app. All files imported with the archive.org file names. Maybe it is my stupidity or I'm asking too much? But thank you again for sparing your time. ;)

In the TV App, right click on each of the 26 and chose get info. Then use the info window to rename and tag as needed. After clicking OK, the files will be renamed.

I hope so much they’ll completely rewrite this app (and they’ll do it in a good way, not with a loss of 50% of the current features) for the next OS. Have you heard anything about it (rumors,…) ? What do you think?

...oh, what a pity! There're small glitches everywhere in the app.

TWO odd things:

- In "dark mode", the progress bar is quite difficult to read in mini-view! It gets a little better if you hover the mini window with the mouse pointer (but why?). It's also difficult to imagine a more stupid progress bar, as fucntion is lost.

- If you click (in mini-view window) on speaker icon, you can set "Music" app own volume, but after a while (or when coming back from other app; inconsistent bug I suspect) you only can set general mac sound volume. I don't understand why it changes (and stays) to this last state. It's confusing at least. (Sometimes I like soft music while needing loud general volume; I can't set this in mini-window... sometimes. Opening big general window makes this possible again, of course).

[EDIT]: Updated macOS to 12.3.1 , the bug remains (must be a bug):

Normal, "Music" volume:

Useless, general volume, appears mysteriously:
