I bought a PC RX 580 years ago and I want to turn it into a Mac Card with a boot screen. I mean come on I cannot be the only one. The R9 280X used to be only available from MVC now you can flash your own. It's just a matter of time when you can do the same with the RX 580. I'm just trying to speed that up.

Then, they should sell their rom at a discount to their flashing service. I would gladly pay for it. Just not at a extreme price.

And how much do you make per hour 1387914497.gif IMHO, for the service MVC provides, the price is certainly not extreme. But, to each their own.

And if they sold you their ROM, what exactly would you do with it? Would you keep to to yourself?

If I payed for it. I would keep it just for my self. And I'm a student. FYI. with a lot of student loans.

There are now several other sources of flashed 580 cards on ebay. Has anyone tried those ? are they using the mvc rom ? are they paying for it ? did they modify the rom hardware the way you suggest here or is that misinformation ?? just asking .... :)

Funnily enough, the people who have dumped ROMs from MVC cards have decided to charge pretty much the same money for doing the flashing themselves. I don't think they're going for the 'do a couple of cards to pay for my own' thing either…if it was as 'simple' as flashing used to be, I can't help thinking someone would have made a ROM and instructions available already. I am certainly not going to help freeloaders though. If someone wants to risk bricking a £150 (at current prices) card rather than actually paying for it to be properly modded and tested, more fool them. And anyone who's ever flashed their own GPU will remember how careful you had to be. Wrong ROM for your precise model of card or a wrong step in the procedure and you had a ruined card. And most of those mods started with a ROM dump from a retail Mac GPU, not someone writing it from scratch…

MVC has announced 5700 XT pre-orders. I wonder what brand they’re using.

Also I tried getting my 580 flashed, but they didn’t bother responding to my questions. Just as well, since OpenCore seems to have obviated the need.

Speaking of MVC, I bought a 580 from them but I haven't heard from them yet. Others seem already waiting more than 2 weeks for some sign.
Anyone knows more about them? Is this their normal behaviour? Starting to get worried and considering to get PayPal involved.

Any solid alternatives out there?

That is because HDMI 2.0 only supports 4k 60Hz 8-bit. DP 1.2 supports 4k 60hz 10bit.

As per the Benq monitor article HDMI 2.0 doesn’t officially support 4K at over 60Hz, only HDMI 2.1 does.

Has anyone tried the other sources of rx580 cards on ebay with bootscreens ?
I bought a flashed Sapphire Pulse RX580 (non-Dual Bios) from an ebay seller. Appears to be the same MVC rom modified from the "universal" MSI rom.
The rom file is the usual 256kb so hardware modification doesn't seem to be necessary.
I spoke to another ebay seller on the phone who confirmed that he doesn't modify the hardware. Nice and knowledgable guy. I would've bought from him if he still sold the cards and didn't just offer a flashing service.

How do you know the size is 256kb?

Any updates on this?

I am in the same boat (ordered flash service) and ZERO communication in any form! I already had to get PP involved.
If you review posts on their blog on their own page, you will see many comments similar to this.
I understand their ROMs/flashes are generally speaking preferred(?) but their CS seems to be lacking dramatically?
