I thought this would be a good way to put a "finishing touch" on this thread.

It's my desk's "finishing touch." It's my favorite part other than the hidden drawer. I used my work's laser and etched in "Handcrafted by MYNAME 2008". It laser etching is in the back of the center drawer. I think it's a beautiful addition, and really makes the desk seem like "mine." The part that is blurred out is my name. I actually signed a piece of paper and then scanned it into the laser computer to obtain the signature image. It wasn't even hard!

Anyway, that's all folks! Thanks for following along!

I always try to refrain from saying a phrase like this but, I digress.
"You sir, are a lord."

I've been following the thread since the first day and I would like to say "Great Job" I've enjoyed every page.

thx

that is awesome.. I hope some day I have the time to become a craftsman with wood as you have. Then I will build furniture for my house.. and later a katana.

That is amazing the level of detail and hard work that was put into this desk. You did an excellent job on everything. The price of something like this is priceless.

Thank you for the great thread. I don't know anyone that can do this kind of thing anymore. Not in the modern day that is. :)

I just saw this thread today from your signature. I didn't even know about this thread. I am speechless because how great it all turned out. That's amazing.:)

You might want to submit this design to a company and make some money. I know I would buy this at Ikea if it were available as a copy cat design.

I hope I didn't offend you. It's just the best desk I've ever seen.

Thanks for the compliments! It really turned out better than I could have imagined. I'm glad there are people out there who share my taste and eye for design. :)

Fivepoint your desk is incredible! You stuck with it when many would have given up and the end result is nothing short if a $2K desk if you had to buy it.

I had a similar dilemma when I bought my iMac, rather then buying a cheep assembly line desk of questionable materials. I decided instead to rebuild an old mahogany desk we were using in the bedroom to house our new 17" iMac.

Here are a couple of pictures to give you a general idea, only problem now that we are looking to upgrade to a 20 or 24" I may be in the same boat and will probably build one unless I can come up with a plan to modify this desk even further. The back sits about 1.5" from the wall and I drilled a series of 1" holes in the back for ventilation. Something I always liked about this desk it too has a secret compartment. :)

Superb work! great thread - can I ask why you don't have the wireless apple keyboard?

Best

Awesome. Good to see people building their own things and doing work with their hands. It'll give you a lot of personal satisfaction in the end! Very cool... although, like you said, you're going to have to be inventive on a solution for when you upgrade that screen! :)

Thanks for your comment! The reason I don't have one... because I type these characters a lot: "123456789". I'd like to remove one more cord, but I can't deal with not having the numeric pad. Plus, it's nice to be able to plug temporary USB devices into the keyboard, without having to go behind the computer, etc.

Very nice looking desk, fivepoint. :)

Thank you very much!

I just read this thread start to finish. Guess I'm not one of the diehard followers, but I must say, CONGRATS!

That is quite an achievement. It's nice to see someone building their own things instead of heading over to officemax and purchasing a particle board desk. Not to mention that desk is a gorgeous piece of furniture.

Good work fivepoint!

Oh, and yes... the color of the credenza was inspired by my new desk!

I know this post is fairly old, but I had a question. I noticed this photo in the post your home theater thread as well, and really like that tv stand/credenza. That is almost exactly what I have been looking for, and wanted to know where you got it and how much you paid if you don't mind me asking.

I am pretty sure it's made by bush... Google Bush Furniture, I am to lazy.

I think it's about $200-300. Bush make some good stuff, got my desk from them and got a free desk also, lol.

SWP60 Avalon Collection - $240
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=203900792&dcaid=17768

It was very easy to put together... and there was no damage to the product once received. Quite happy with it in general. I think they also have a smaller size for smaller tv sets. Not sure about that though... searching for that kind of furniture online isn't the easiest thing in the world. Good luck.

That is a great desk! Took a lot of work and you hit some hardships but pulled through! It's much like restoring a Classic car, it's worth it in the end!

If you are still looking for a chair, stop now! I have THE chair for you!

http://www.officemax.com/omax/catal...=serta&productId=prod1570008&category_Id=null

I am going to be getting myself one of these chairs in mid-December.

I like the general look of that chair... It's not as 'modern' as I was originally thinking... but I think it would go really good in my den actually. It certainly looks comfortable. May I ask you what drew you to that chair? I haven't been able to find any reviews for it.

Thanks for the suggestion! I am still using my old chair, so I really do appreciate it.

WOW!

Awesome thread and an awesome desk, really beautiful finish...

I hate seeing threads like this because I live in Hong Kong and have NO space at all to do stuff like that and I would love to, nothing personal, but I'm gunna have a grump on for a few hours now!

:D

Isnt Hong Kong in China? ;)

Oops. For some reason he got me thinking about Japanese hand saws. Anyway, I'm sure a similar search on Google for Chinese woodworking or Hong Kong woodworking would turn up some sort of club with individuals who work with wood. It's a big world out there.

did you ever decide on a chair?

Not yet. Still looking. Seen several I like... but nothing that fits perfectly.
