What makes you say that? Most users are not doing movie production, they're using their laptop as a portable machine in various uncontrolled lighting conditions (different places around the house, office, cafe, job site, etc.), one would suspect?

If you're tied to a desk in a controlled environment, why get a laptop at all?

We've been using glossy screens on our Macbooks for years, and almost subconsciously just adjust the screen angle to minimise reflections. If you buy a Nano screen, you'll soon - if not immediately - not notice any blurriness in the text.

So, my summary is: if you are really sure you want a nano screen, buy it. If you're really sure you want the glossy screen, buy it. If you're not completely sure, then buy the nano if FOMO is something that guides your life, else buy the glossy and save some money.

I don't think it matters as much as people say. If they hadn't released a nano version then almost everyone who bought one would have simply got the glossy without caring. And don't get me started on the space-grey vs silver debate! (Silver, by the way 😁)

Pretty much.

Funny enough everyone in my family (parents, wife) all preferred the nano in a side-by-side test without telling them which is which. In any case I returned the glossy, and the 'fuzzy' or 'clarity' is a non-issue. If you want the best picture quality and you are an editor turn off the lights / work in the dark.

I returned mine and I am rethinking if I really need a laptop. Had nothing to do with it being nano, but I probably would have exchanged it for a glossy one anyway with the Black Friday sales on the base models. $150 difference isn't bad, but now I am seeing $200 off a lot of models at other retailers and the nano isn't worth $350 to me.

i wish apple had the 16 in stock, none the less, i'm using the 14 nano right now but the 16 size would really benefit from nano texture as more light is diffused.

I'm sincerely happy Apple gave us the option, to me I worry about the antiglare coating eventually warping and causing artifacts because it doesn't last forever. To me, it's almost like reading on paper when it gets to the 1,000 nits of brightness, surreal. Let's be real, this is just a matte screen but the way they did it, is unlike any other matte screen I've seen.

The nano texture is probably more durable on that basis (apparently not as scratch resistant though). The glossy displays (and I know from experience) may eventually suffer from delamination of the anti-reflective coating. When it happens too quickly lawsuits are flled and it's called staingate. I do not believe that the nano texture suffers from the same weakness because the anti-refletive properties are not a coating -- it's a direct nano-etching into the glass. So, yes, it is not a typical matte screen, which do typically rely on coatings.

If I worked In environments where reflections were a true issue then I may have gotten the matte version or if I was someone who was in a field where they were used to matte screens or just got headaches like some people do from glossy saturated screens, then I’d totally understand. But for someone for whom glare is not an issue or an issue where it’s solved by slightly adjusting the angle of the screen, in that case I feel like the negatives of a matte screen outweigh the positives to me personally. With that said I feel like there is some purchase bias going on here. Does the matte screen look nicer in really highly lit environments? Yes absolutely, but does it also mute the sharpness, punchiness of colors and makes white backgrounds not as crisp? Hell yea it does, for those saying otherwise may need their eyes checked. If you don’t write dissertations under the sun in a zenith position or have direct lights beaming at your screen from every angle, it mostly comes down to preference and if you do more than just work in brightly lit environments and enjoy watching a movie or a nice hdr video, glossy version looks a lot more pleasing. To each their own, but don’t say it doesn’t affect the vibrancy of your screen because it absolutely does.

Because for the same price you may as well use a MacBook Pro and connect it to a nice screen and then take it back with you if needed. Since the desktops no longer provide an advantage in performance and barely in price, I’d go with the versatility of a MacBook Pro any day.

Silver over the black and it’s not even close. Also well said for the rest of the points as well.

EDIT: Nevermind, I saw a thread below about this.

Is the only way you can purchase a Nano is by ordering it online through Apple? Do the physical Apple stores ever get them in? I have been checking for a few days and they are all out of stock in the physical stores around me. Thanks!

Anybody know if they typically put nano-texture displays out among the demo units in Apple Stores? Videos and anecdotal descriptions are useful but I feel like I need to just see them side by side with my own eyes.

Everything looks fantastic to me. No issues with sharpness, black levels, or contrast. If you have a preference for matte displays, go for it.
That's good to know.

I went ahead and just ordered it without the nano-texture screen. The more I thought about it the more I realized I hardly deal with reflection issues on my 2018 MBP.

Yes, you should be able to find at least one on display at the Apple Store. If you live near one, definitely go check it out in person.

I went with a 14” Space Black M4 Pro Nano!! I love it!! But I went with that choice because I travel for work all the time and find myself in different places. Now after setting up the new MacBook, I had it side by side with my M2 MacBook Pro, and I think I prefer the Nano. I know there might be some clarity loss on a white background, but that’s not enough for me to stress. I love what I purchased.

This why very few will request the Nano screen for one of the stocked SKUs. The Nano screen versions will never go on sale and the price difference then becomes too large.

I have some small stains on my nano-texture screen that the Apple polishing cloth won't remove. I have Rogge alcohol free screen cleaner that I used on my old MBP. Have been searching the web for 70% isopropyl alcohol but I'm not sure what to buy.

This is the reason nano might not be the best way. On a microscopic level the glass has small "caves" which fill up with gunk, overtime you wont be able to to remove it.
