i didn't the topic moved onto supporting stealing. supporting streaming services is supporting stealing.

Wow, one trick pony.

Who negotiated the deal between studios and streaming services?
"Talent" compensation would be negotiated between the talent and the studio.
"Workers" compensation would be negotiated between the unions and the studio.
Residuals via streaming would be negotiated by the studios and the streamers, how again are streamers solely to blame?

Do you have anything to contribute besides spouting "supporting streaming is stealing"?

Hmm, but I kept hearing that the “crackdown” was going to mean no price increases or possibly even lower prices because they needed to compensate for all the Grand Larceny. 🤔 I’m just glad all the password-sharers are behind bars now.

At that price I'd rather just get a Youtube Premium subscription.

Same. I watch YouTube far more than I ever watched Netflix. Hulu and YouTube are the apps I use the most on my TV.

Although cable television was never conceived of as television without commercial interruption, there has been a widespread impression - among the public, at least -that cable would be supported largely by viewers' monthly subscription fees.
Regardless of that article, when my brother and parents were sold cable TV subscriptions in the early 1980s, one of the selling points the company gave them was that they would have commercial-free programming. I mean, otherwise why would anyone pay for it? There were only four major networks at that time, and all of them were easily accessible in our area with a cheap antenna. So asking people to pay for something they already got for free was a hard sell.

This also means that the Netflix Games subscription has gone up to $13.99 from $6.99. And, with that increase goes an increased amount to Apple as those subscriptions are paid for inside the game.

I haven’t owned a TV for over a year now, and don’t miss it at all. If I could just get my head around how to set up Plex on my Synology NAS and put all of my DVD’s on it, I could exit Netflix. I’ve tried but can never get Plex to work 😩
Too bad about plex, are you trying to use the NAS as the server as well? That’s probably the issue.
I run plex on a nvidia shield that connects to my synology NAS and it amazing. 3.yrs now and faultless.

Good luck

See just reading that made me realise how confused I am; I need Plex AND a server? I just thought PLEX was a player that stored your movies and you press play. It’s 35f here and my fingers are numb typing this 😂

No need for Plex, Synology has its own called DS Video, works like a charm! Easy to setup, plenty of youtube tutorials too.

Not saying Plex is bad, I've never used it, but that was only because I bought a Synology and tried their included software first.

Oh really? Thank you! I’ll check it out this morning. Much appreciated.

already cancelled from 2 yrs ago and I don’t look back. This company is a greedy joke. They don’t even have good content anymore, maybe 1 or 2 “good shows” on it.

I’d go and stick with Max

Well, let's jump back to good ol' boat of piracy.

The pitcher goes so often to the well that it is broken at last.

You can't stretch it infinitely Netflix.
Hello Bearshare 😂

One could say the same about Max. It all is dependent on the genre of content you want to watch. A collection of old movies and some TV shows might not be everyone's fancy. All streaming VoD providers have different amounts of content genres in their collection. It all comes down to each of our own tastes on what streaming is utilized. You just have to hope what you like sticks around. ;)

So back to limewire we go. There isn’t going to be anything good for a while with a writers and actors strike (more power to them). I also see why they are doing this now. So we cut the cord time to just remove it all. I’m a weird person as I watch movies so I purchase them from Apple TV.

You just named one reason people turn to streaming hosts that provide international content. Netflix is only one of many sources that license that content. Hollywood would like you to believe that only they produce relevant content, but that not the way its going in recent years as more countries are partnering producing localized content in many genres. So many of the shows you watched have been filmed in other countries while Hollywood was dealing with covid. :)

then you can rotate them every other year.
This actually made me lol.

Of course some people will do this but lets look at the average Joe. Did you watch show XYZ this weekend? Nah I am on an off year don't talk about it until then.

I hope streaming wakes up and goes the route the music industry did. Everyone has almost all content compete on which service you like the best. You never hear about music piracy anymore because its too cheap to bother.

Netflix use to be the central hub for all things streaming. Then the other's wanted a piece of the pie, and people were willing to pay for said pie.

The real humor in all this is how originally, people went with Netflix because it was $7.99 and thus, cheaper than they were paying for cable. But now, a lot of those same people are paying just as much for four streaming services as they were with cable... and some even more than that lol.

yeah, but also most artist aren't making a living doing music anymore. even big names are quitting. between huge fees from ticket sellers and little money from streaming is not worth it anymore.

Now, those $9.99/mo subscribers will have to decide to either

(a) pay more for the $15.49/mo no ads plan
(b) downgrade to the $6.99/mo ad supported plan
(c) cancel
Or, and most likely, (d) do nothing and stay on the basic plan, which, according to the article, is possible.

The day is coming when all streaming services have full adverts no matter which plan you choose.
Well, it’s not this day.

Case in point - every big site on the internet.
..has ads, yeah. But doesn’t cost money.
