According to an article in today's Birmingham News, an Apple Store will be opening at The Summit by March. The article also says that negotiations over a previous space fell through because it was too small by six inches. Sounds crazy, but who knows? They also don't say if this was the rumored store #005 from 2001.

I searched for the article and this is what I found.

Edgy clothier Urban Outfitters and the Apple Store are among the new tenants expected to open stores at The Summit over the next few month as developer Bayer Properties aims to draw more young shoppers to the center....

Once again, here is the updated list of FY2006 stores so those who don't want to wade through all of the earlier pages will have it easily available. This shows stores already opened in FY 2006 (in red,) and upcoming stores confirmed by Apple's own listings (including stores officially announced in gold, stores in the process of staff recruitment in green, and new locations which have only been listed as upcoming retail sites in black.) Is this the same story? Thanks for the tip, I'll change my list.

Yes, that's the article.

I found it a bit odd that the reporter named Libby Lassiter, who is a principal at Bayer Properties, as a source for the part about Urban Outfitters opening a store, as well as the bit about previous negotiations with Apple. But the article only credits "sources" for the information about the new Apple Store. Still, it's hard to believe that this isn't the real deal.

I wonder how long it'll take to renovate the space, which is still occupied by Eddie Bauer.

I was told that a store might open here in Charleston sc (maybe Columbia). I keep looking but can't find anything. Where can I go to see a list or what can I do to find a list? I keep hoping the sales clerk in NC was correct.
It would be easier for me to drive to Columbia (1 1/2 hours away) than Charlotte (3 hours away).

But it would be better here in Charleston. :D

  • Town Square Mall - Las Vegas, Nevada (mall opening "Fall 2007")
I just about wet myself when I saw this because the mall here in town is called the Towne Square Mall... but this is in Vegas.

So I go back to waiting and hoping. :(

Three new stores to open on 9/23

sayhey, Thanks for the list. It was really informative and appreciated!;)

You're welcome, savanahrose! Sorry, I didn't respond sooner.

Apple has announced the opening next weekend of the Providence Place store, the Village Pointe store, and the Columbia Mall store. They all will open on Saturday, September 23rd at 10:00 am. The usual giveaways apply.

The Providence Place and Village Pointe stores are the first in their states, and the Columbia Mall store will be the fifth in Maryland. The Rhode Island and Nebraska openings will mean that Apple has retail stores in 33 of the 50 states. New Mexico will be the next state to get its first store.

While mac fans in Rhode Island and Nebraska celebrate their first Apple stores this weekend, and the retail planners in Cupertino celebrate making their target of 40 new stores by the end of FY 2006 (one more weekend to go over target,) I'm interested in two rumors posted this week on ifoAppleStore. For obvious reasons the possibility of another San Francisco store intrigues me the most, but the rumor of a store in Portland, Maine would, if true, confirm Apple's plan to reach into small retail markets and have a greater impact for those thirsting for a store in their state.

Also with Apple reaching its target the next logical line of speculation is how many stores by calendar year's end? My guess? 177 by year's end (there are 164 with the three openings today - 9/23.) Here's my list of new openings between Sept. 23rd and Dec. 31st: Fair Oaks, Cherry Hill, First Colony, 29th Street, Topanga Mall, Arndale, West Quay, Bentall Centre, Chinook Centre, ABQ Uptown Mall, Waterside Shoppes, Coconut Point, and Otay Ranch. It's just a guess, but 13 more by the end of the year.

About dang time! :)

I had to go to CompUSA for my last purchase because our local reseller is awful.

Manchester store to open this weekend

Apple has officially announced the opening on September 30th at 9:00 am of the new store in Manchester's Arndale Centre. This is the UK's 7th store with two more stores in the process of staff recruitment (Southampton and Kingston.)

Also of interest is the next step in the approval of Boston's high-profile store on Boylston Street as reported at ifoAppleStore.

Boston Schedules Public Hearing
Boston’s Redevelopment Authority (BRA) will present Apple’s proposed Boylston Street architectural plans to the public during a meeting on Oct. 4 at Fisher College–about four blocks from the proposed store site. The neighborhood Back Bay Architectural Commission gave the early design its conditional approval, but the BRA has not yet voted on Apple’s application to demolish the existing building and rebuild a glass-front, three-story retail store. The plan has the backing of mayor Thomas Menino, which, in Boston, indicates that the store proposal will eventually be approved.

Apple has officially announced the opening this coming Friday, Oct. 6th at 10:00 am of the Topanga store in Canoga Park, California. This is Apple's 33rd store in the Golden State and the 18th in the LA metro area.

What About Wisconsin?

I really wish there was more than one Apple Store in Wisconsin. I know of a lot of demand in the Madison area for one.

You can view pictures of the recently opened Arndale Store here.

Recognise a lot of people from the interviews in the pics there.

Apple confuses me....they don't want anyone that knows **** all about macs working in their shops they just want people that are 'cool and trendy'.

Maybe this is why they have a rift of complaints about the dummys they employ and why i was over qualified to work in a shop

Did anyone here attend the Apple Store Topanga opening this morning? ;)

Parking at the mall was absolutely RIDICULOUS.

we need a store in Cardiff, Wales, UK

It should be a massive store!! our nearest is Birmingham and thats about 2.5hr drive

Well, a prime piece of commercial real estate has just opened up in Center City Philadelphia...Tower Records has gone bankrupt and looks like the megastore on Broad and Chestnut will be closing. I'm not at all happy about this since there's no comparable alternative record stores in the city. :( But if Apple were to open it would sure help make up for it. I know it's fairly large with two levels, but I'm crossing fingers there's interest and it won't be passed up - these chances won't come along too often.

I lived in Madison, WI. I miss it. My cousin's still live there along with my sister.

How far away are you from the other store? I have to drive 3 hours to get to the closest store.

Apple has officially announced the opening of the Twenty Ninth Street store in Boulder, Colorado. The grand opening will take place on Friday, October 13th at 10:00 am. This is Apple's fourth store in the Denver metro area.

Thought it was about time to update this list.

It is a list of metropolitan areas, US and international, that have multiple stores or stores planned. It gives a better view of Apple's plans for certain markets. It should be noted I'm using 2000 Census Bureau statistics (table 3) and metro area designations. The most important impact of the use of these figures is that Miami and West Palm Beach were then viewed as separate metro areas; they are no longer. If both areas are combined it gives a better view of Apple's obvious interest in Southeast Florida with six stores located in the area, so this is the one adjustment I've made to the table. I've added the 2000 population ranking (excluding Puerto Rico) of each U.S. area at the end of it's listing (the combining of Miami and West Palm Beach makes this the 10th largest metro area in the US.) I've also listed high-profile stores in red and stores that are confirmed by non-Apple sources in green. All other entries are from Apple's own site (existing stores and planned locations.)
