Working at a computer store, I know this:

People often think Macs are expensive.
But people always know that PCs have more problems.

And because of that, we sell more Macs than PCs. Simply put, these commercials work. Keep rubbing in the virus issues, and people will always be reminded about how much their PC sucks. Apple doesn't need to show off their products as much as people say: showing how BAD the competition's products are has a much stronger effect. And then impress the customer once they've shown interest. That's what reels them in.

Has anyone ever met a PC user that switched to a Mac and didn't like it? I haven't. All of these PC users that dog on Macs probably haven't even tried a Mac. They just put up with the crappy user experience that PCs offer and assume that all computers are the same. Apple should run a campaign with interviews with former PC users. The whole pissing match gets a bit annoying, really. I'm a lifelong Mac user and, yes, a fanboy. But, it's crazy to me how many PC users dog on Macs without even trying them. I've used both and have stuck with the one that I prefer most. At least try both before you defend Windows so much, people!

I think it has more to do with fanboyism than actual experiences on a Mac. Even if they did have a positive experience using a Mac (which they probably will), they're all too stubborn and one-sided to admit that they enjoyed using a Mac.

They take any bit of negative press they can use as fuel to hate, and exploit it completely. Thats fanboys for ya.

I don't understand fanboys. Why can't you like both? Or why can't you like one thing without having to put down the other? I PREFER using Macs and think they are overall much better products, but I don't have to put down PC users in order to enjoy my Mac. I just think they're a better product, I don't need to spend all my energy focusing on putting down PCs. Its funny because they spend more time worrying about hating on Macs than they do just enjoying whatever they have.

These ads are getting tired...

The ads will eventually start inciting hackers to start taking advantage of exploits in the Mac.

Yeah especially the part they say where Macs have no viruses. Every time they say that, it makes my Mac scared. The "Surprise" ending made me laugh out loud.

Agreed, they are getting increasingly mean spirited and pretentious as well.

Oh no!!!

They're soooo mean to MS!

Yes, they are. And they should be. Apple should never, ever let up with the constant attacks and degradation of the slower, dumber, and far less resourceful competition. This has been in the public consciousness for years now. And with MS losing control of the Premium market, their image has become synonymous with the bargain-bin. Apple has simply been exploiting that. More power to them.

By all accounts, the ads are working, and have been since 2006. Why showcase features, when you can use much more powerful suggestions that people can actually (and would want to) associate with: humour, class, style, even pretention.

I've purchased a Macbook, iMac, and an iPhone. All I have left is the phone, and I'll get rid of that as soon as my contract is up (it constantly freezes up). OSX is overrated IMHO. I couldn't be productive without windows, it didn't make sense to spend so much money when a windows pc does the work I need it to do just fine.

Just purchased a new Quad-Core i7, 9gig RAm, BlueRay, kick-ass video card for $1100. It would have cost over $3,000 for a comperable Mac. Not for me.

Yeah! I mean since 2006 when these ads started airing, the Mac has so many more more viruses than it did in 2006, and it's all due to these ads!

I was actually in that group, including couldn't stand people with their ipod's walking around, and then then the ipod touch came out. I gave it a try, and it completely changed my mind about ipod's, so I decided to give a mac mini a try, and here I am now with an iphone, imac, and a macbook. The worst part now is since I was the computer guy of the family and out of my friends in school, I have to help people with their computers constantly, which was something I thought was just a normal part of having a computer.

"any PC you get is gonna have those problems"

I've had my self built PC for 3 years and it has never had a virus or any of that other crap. Not using IE pretty much solves 95% of PC problems.

I am all mac, (tons of ipods, an imac, and a new 13" MBP on the way), but i will occasionaly jump over to windows to play a game or two, but thats all i use windows for. No matter how much these adds degrade and make fun of windows it still has the largest library of games. The adds are amusing everytime i watch them, even the old ones.

On a side note i have a 12 year old pc that still works, its seams that the quality of pcs have degraded over time. All the more reason to use macs.

Apple, these ads weren't good in 2006 and they're still not good. They're a bad, tired out joke.

I gotta say, if that's all they have to respond : Weak. There's so much that is better in OS X vs Windows and with Mac hardware vs PC Hardware, you'd think they could come up with something that isn't "viruses and malware".

Not teh funney.

I don't get the constant "virus" scare lately... I'm betting they have a Snow Leopard one by this weekend and hopefully one about Win 7 when it's out but come on Apple! Show the people WHY you're so much better. Tell them about the OS, multi touch trackpad and iLife! You can take a break from the Mac and PC guys. Maybe even let some recent switchers tell everyone how much better they are with you.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The childish Mac-bashing reeks of ignorance.

The Mac vs. PC campaign is hugely successful and keeps on moving truckloads of Macs. Why stop now?

I agree with this. I have known some die-hard Windows users that used to ridicule me over using Macs and now some of them are die-hard Mac users. Once people USE Macs — and using them for a week or less doesn't count — they stay. Windows offers 0 benefits and Quicklook is the best thing ever! :D

I had a coworker that about 3 years ago dropped $2000 on a Dell. She's had nothing but problems with it. Early this year she took the plunge after hearing me and a coworker love our Macbooks and she bought a Macbook Pro (she has nothing better to spend her money on.) She then loved it so much she bought 24" iMac a few months ago. She said she didn't know why she didn't make the switch earlier.

Surprise was funny. The other one was just plain boring.

I think they're all tiresome. Mentioning viruses and "just working" is very long in the tooth.

Why not do an out-of-the-box experience. Every new Mac comes with iLife, Xcode Studio, and some wonderful built-in apps such as Time Machine, Safari, Mail, iCal, etc.

IE8 on Windows is horrid. NT Backup sux compared to Time Machine. Nothing on the PC compares to the free iLife.

SURPRISE! I'm one here.

I don't hate it so much that I'd never touch it, I just think it's overpriced for what it is.

Here are a few misconceptions people (Die hard Apple Users and fanboys) have about Windows.

1) Windows gets lots of Viruses!
Well, that depends on who the user is. I don't get viruses, but I'm not your every day Joe that goes on porn sites or warez sites and downloads cracked software only to find that I got a virus.

2) Windows is for noobs.
This is a big one that Mac users all seem to think (mostly those who are only Mac OS X fans). Windows is not an OS that is so stuck down and makes you want to cry, etc. etc.

3) Windows is sooo buggy.
Well, did the machine you're using or fixing have Spyware or Viruses on it from you downloading something infected or someone else downloading something infected? Maybe you installed an incompatible driver or something.

If you did any of those things, yes... it will be buggy. If Macs ever take over the Windows market (which it won't, no matter how much you try and think it will... it won't), you will have this unfortunate attention of people who have no life or are very bored (which is the same thing almost), you will start getting more and more viruses. Yes, you have to hit OK to install something... but most people just hit OK without looking at what they're allowing, so you will always have a group of people who install viruses.

I could go on about misconceptions users have on Windows.

The way I see it, Mac OS X and Windows are in two different categories which is why I think Macs will never have a majority of the userbase of computers. Why? Because Mac OS X requires an Apple certified computer... a computer that is WAYYYYYYYYYY overpriced for what it contains. The system itself is so locked down it's not even funny.

I see the Apple userbase praise the fact that it is locked down, and that it allows Apple to make a better user experience. In some ways, this is true... but that also has its downside like why you won't ever have a majority userbase.

When I first got my Mac Mini, I was excited. Why? It's a new experience on a completely new system. Was I excited because I hate Windows? No! I still use Windows, and I use it as my primary machine.

I've been using Mac OSX almost everyday the last 3 or so months. I am an iPhone developer and that is the sole reason for getting a Mac. I thought to myself that I shouldn't limit my user base just because of what it is.

The one thing I like about the Mac is that it's way quicker to boot up than Windows, but as far as advantages over Windows, there aren't really any advantages to using a Mac.

I grew up on a Mac at school, and PC at home. My favorite games were games like "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego", and "Cross Country Canada". I also loved games on the iMac like A Bug's Life or one of the games where you were a bug and had to avoid human footsteps, etc. Oh, and I can't forget Oregon Trail!

SO, I could carry on another few pages or so... but I will wrap it up now to see the user response. Sure, I hate on Mac sometimes, I don't hate it to the point where I won't use it, in fact my Mac isn't even prone to not crashing (like all Mac users claim the Macs never crash). All I do is use Safari and XCode on the Mac and sometimes it freezes or XCode crashes.

I said I was going to stop, so I will stop typing now. :)
