Since when do Macs have no viruses? They keep implying this in their ads and it's very deceptive. Obviously Macs have viruses and can have problems like any other computer. Also, maybe Macs have less viruses because they have less developers and software overall.

I agree completely with the posters that said these ads are tired and that they should advertise their own positives, like the iPhone ads do.

Okay, I like the idea behind the ads just not all the bashing and virus scares. I have to say though, I liked "Surprise".

Yes something simple like a price comparison of Snow Leopard and Windows 7.
Or... now, here's a novel idea...

Something like the merits and features of Snow Leopard without once MENTIONING or focusing on someone else's product???

I know, I know. Radical.

Or use that god awful upgrade chart that was floating around for a while.
Right, I notice that BMW always advertises nothing to do with making great cars, but how bad Fords are.

These ads are getting tired...

The ads will eventually start inciting hackers to start taking advantage of exploits in the Mac.

Oh really? For some reason I just think this statement is false.

Check this out. Remember, everything I say is valid because I have a various Ph.Ds from Harvard and Yale and all those other places on computer security:

Macs are super easy to hack all you have to do is start one up and plug it in and then type in the IP address and boom, instant botnet!1!1!!!11! No matter what OS or revision its running, no firewall or anything can stop it mark my words!

Now, Mac OS marketshare is hovering around 8-10% depending on who you ask. The hacker/group/country/nerd that develops a true self proliferating bonafide virus-not some stupid wannabe script kiddy trojan hack that requires user authentication-that infects OS X machines will achieve INSTANT celebrity status. OS X is no longer "obscure." High profile celebrities and political figures are seen sporting the latest Apple machines. Marketshare constantly increasing , record breaking revenues. There are most certainly people out there that truly want to see Apple fail all over the place, and that anger is more than likely bankrolled with some serious coin (psystar anyone?)

If OS X is a hackers dream why haven't there been any serious developments? I suppose the associated press and Apple are in bed together, killing stories before they break? Please. Arn finds out news before damn near everyone else.

Name one please. I'm very interested. I'd like to see the payload myself.

SURPRISE! I'm one here.

3) Windows is sooo buggy.
Well, did the machine you're using or fixing have Spyware or Viruses on it from you downloading something infected or someone else downloading something infected? Maybe you installed an incompatible driver or something.

Incompatible driver? What is that? Is not driver to make things compatible, so what is incompatible driver? How I know if driver incompatible before install? How uninstall said incompatible driver?

Bottom line: PC's still cost less and offer more.

MS really drove this point home with the commercials depicting people shopping for a comp. Especially since a lot of people STILL think the economy is terrible.

I want to see something more creative from Apple. I'm thinking ninja poodles.

A driver a third party company makes, end user goes to install the driver but they installed the incorrect one. However, with Windows 7... pretty much all of that work is done for you unless you're using some old device that almost no one uses. All of my devices worked out of the box without shuffling around to find drivers.

Working at a computer store, I know this:

People often think Macs are expensive.
But people always know that PCs have more problems.

And because of that, we sell more Macs than PCs. Simply put, these commercials work. Keep rubbing in the virus issues, and people will always be reminded about how much their PC sucks. Apple doesn't need to show off their products as much as people say: showing how BAD the competition's products are has a much stronger effect. And then impress the customer once they've shown interest. That's what reels them in.

In my opinion, you pay for so much more than the "brand" or even the hardware and technology. There are so many things that you just can't measure monetarily, like the whole presentation and user experience when buying/using a Mac. I think that Macs simply offer more value for your money. I don't like how Microsoft has to mislead people with their ads about "paying more for the brand" because its a lot more than that. Apple does exaggerate their ads a little too, but for the most part their ads are truthful.

You're paying for better hardware, better design, superior engineering, better software, and more advanced technology thats standard on Macs...like DDR3 ram standard in all MBP's, the beautiful LED display, Wireless N technology standard, much faster integrated graphics, etc. You pay more money but you do get more features and technology. No PCs come standard with the type of things Macs do. Wireless technology has been standard on Macs since the late 90s lol. When you price similar hardware and technology on a manufactured PC, you usually see similar prices.

But I think theres so much more to it than that, and you can't measure its true value that way. Bottom line, in my opinion, for that little extra money you pay, you get a lot more value. Not just the hardware, but its the overall experience and higher quality that make it more value per dollar.

My philosophy is you get what you pay for, end of story.

Microsoft needs to learn that advertising does not equal mean lying and faking. And that a bigger screen doesn't make a better computer. Apple ads are funny and tells the truth, while Microsoft just displays their non-existent knowledge of technology (a bigger display of shoddy quality somehow makes up for shoddy hardware).

Apple FTW.

Apple, these ads weren't good in 2006 and they're still not good. They're a bad, tired out joke.

That's YOUR opinion and you're wrong anyway. You're going to tell a company that has billions of available cash in the bank, who's retail stores are doing quite well despite the decline in the economy, who's computer's (which are the underdog) market share is growing rapidly and who's online app store is the largest in the industry and is making crazy profits, that their ads are bad and a tired out joke?
I think Apple know's their business a whole lot better than you do buddy. If it wasn't working they wouldn't be showing those same tired of joke ads. :p

I've purchased a Macbook, iMac, and an iPhone. All I have left is the phone, and I'll get rid of that as soon as my contract is up (it constantly freezes up). OSX is overrated IMHO. I couldn't be productive without windows, it didn't make sense to spend so much money when a windows pc does the work I need it to do just fine.

Just purchased a new Quad-Core i7, 9gig RAm, BlueRay, kick-ass video card for $1100. It would have cost over $3,000 for a comperable Mac. Not for me.

If you didn't like them why did you go ahead and bought two of them (MacBook and iMac)?! Rational person would by one Mac. Use it for a while and if he likes it by another one or keep using it.

SURPRISE! I'm one here.

I don't hate it so much that I'd never touch it, I just think it's overpriced for what it is.

Here are a few misconceptions people (Die hard Apple Users and fanboys) have about Windows.
..

The point you forgot to mention is that everyone (even "Die hard Apple users and fanboys") used Windows on regular basis at some point in time. Therefore they know those are not misconceptions but facts.

Do you even own a Mac? Do you have one of the more recent Macs or some old one still running Mac OS 7-9?

There is no special user experience. In my previous long post, I described how I was excited because I got something different. Now, it's no more exciting than using a Windows PC.

Microsoft does not sell computers. Besides that, you get DDR3 RAM, I have Wireless N on my PC, I have a beautiful LED display... even touchscreen menu on the bottom! You pay more money for something that costs less, you pay for the brand. Wireless technology has been standard on Windows since the late 90s lol. When you price similar hardware and technology on a manufactured PC, you see cheaper prices. I should know since I research things and I build my own PCs.

Yes, that is your opinion on paying a lot more money for something that shouldn't be so much.
Good philosophy, the only thing you get for on a Mac is branding.

Right, because Apple doesn't lie. It's not like they just lied to the FCC about their whole App store process.

Also, Microsoft is not a hardware vendor. Microsoft sells Windows, not computers. This is why your whole post is flawed.

"any PC you get is gonna have those problems"

I've had my self built PC for 3 years and it has never had a virus or any of that other crap. Not using IE pretty much solves 95% of PC problems.

I will tell you a secret about trojans, you will never know you are infected until it is too late. Not doubting your computer skills or anything but few people told me the exact same thing. After I did some digging and a virus scan it turned out their PCs were trojan breeding ground. Just few hours ago I got a trojan in an email from my brother-in-law hotmail account, which he did not send. I had fun playing around with the virus on my Mac before I called him and let him know that his PC is infected with "W32.Induc.A" and he needs to change ALL his passwords and perform a complete virus scan.

Apple, these ads weren't good in 2006 and they're still not good. They're a bad, tired out joke.

They've won numerous awards. Effie, One Show, US News' Best Video Ad, Garfield Bobby awards, etc.

Apple is selling Macs in record numbers.

Apple is virtually recession-proof. Most of their revenue coming from Mac sales.

Macs, Macbooks especially, are among the most coveted and desirable tech products today.

Apple rules the $1000+ notebook market.

If their ads aren't working, they sure as hell aren't hurting them.

I'm getting so tired that they are using viruses as an argument in most of these ads. What if a possible buyer thinks that "well, yeah, viruses... I just buy an anti-virus software and that's it"... I think it's time to move on with these ads, now it's more or less same phrases over and over again.

If you're having him change passwords on websites, he should absolutely not do it from the infected PC.

Do it from a trusted system. A Mac perhaps... :D

After that, again, on a trusted system, download malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org, burn it to a CD, not a usb drive, and install it. That should clear up the majority of nastiness which should then let a traditional antivirus scanner have a shot at cleaning up the remnants.

Unplug the network connection until this has all been done.
