One moment!

Hi Todd,

New stuff would be great but I'd love all that stuff you have on your website and myspace as AAC or MP3 files so I can listen to it on my iPod rather than by playing it just from where its embeded. Is there somewhere where I can actually download your older stuff? Did I miss something?

My i7 is now showing as prepared for shipping, its like waiting for Christmas hahaha.

Cheers

Greg

As I said before, stay tuned - I hope to have an outlet for this shortly. Unfortunately, most of the streaming sites just don't have the audio fidelity in the original tracks. I'll pm you once I get something put together for downloads of the existing material.

Great, thanks. I went to a gig the other week, the artist had her stuff on a site called soundcloud which was pretty good. Might be worth checking out if you haven't already, seemed like a good way of distributing music from what I saw. But I'm not in the industry so YMMV.

My free iPod touch has arrived and my i7 left Newark, CA yesterday! Does this mean it was assembled in CA?

Most likely yes. That's the route mine came from. If you look at your invoice (accessible from your apple order status page), the serial number will be on it, and you can use that to verify for sure via the first 2 characters of that number.
Having said (or actually written) all that, my USA-assembled iMac still has a yellow tint. I can't figure out if it's "normal" because it's not as severe as the images shown in those online examples, but it's definitely there as far as I can tell. I don't plan to do anything about it presently.

Otherwise, it's extremely quiet (Western Digital 1TB drive), no dead pixels, and blazing fast.

Just an update on my level of happiness.

i7 8gb.
It's a beast in logic, cpu is around 4% with my projects, even the demos on the demo logic cd are a piece of cake. I hope to keep it a long time without problems. The days of cpu overload, clicks and pops are over!

Haven't notice any yellow tint or dead pixels, haven't done the tests, just the meticulous eye test, if i don't see anything, it's fine, don't want anything to spoil my satisfaction.

Very quiet/silent most of the time, after some continuous hours working the rpm of the fans go around 1800, sometimes 2000 and i can hear them, but i think it's normal, the ambient temp is around 30º, pretty hot this days so no biggy.

After almost a week of OS, i can say i love it!

Yeah, mine has a serial beginning with QP so it was made in California. Week 33. It gets here on Friday!

I've had mine for over a week now and I've got to say its probably the best computer I've owned up to this date. Everything is snappy and fast. Been able to run SC2 and wow in windowed mode with no slow down. Also the shipping was awesome, they actually delivered my iMac on a saturday 3 days after I ordered it online with their free shipping! Sad to hear about the other iMac owners, but I guess I got lucky with mine.

got my i7 8gb ssd + 1tb hdd yesterday.

looks awesome compared to my c2d 24"..

just a bit of a pain to set up... having iphoto problems... was on the phone about 1.5 hours with apple tech support who couldn't resolve issues...

managed to transfer everything else over ok... just juggling between ssd and hdd..

mine is a CK.. serial number, so made in china..

has the 1TB seagate drive... which does make some kind of clunking sound when reading/writing, but it's not that obvious, so i can live with that.

ran the pixel and yellow screen tests, which appear to show no defects (touch wood)..

i love the fact that almost all apps open with 1 bounce! awesomeness that is :)

Just wanted to add to the tally - got my i7 yesterday. No yellow tint, no brightness buzz, no dead pixels, no hard drive noise, no PSU buzz. Assembled in CA.

Perfect and runs like a dream.

perfect

got my 27 i7 8gig ram 1tb + SSD from apple and not a single complaint.....
no yellow... no dead pixel no bleed
figured to post to give some people confidence cause "only people with problems" post....

Received my i7 27" iMac today. I got the Western Digital 1TB. I can hear it...but nothing out of the ordinary. So it's generally pretty quiet...Guess I am lucky. Screen seems fine.

One surprising thing is that the iMac fan is only running at 1000rpm...so generally my machine is very quiet. The top of the iMac is sure hot!!! I hope there is a way to cool this thing after market.

No, my CA built yellow tinted, cracked LCD, gray banded 27" went back to Apple, waiting on my replacement.
Well, actually I think you should have put up with that one. You never know if your next is worse! ;)

Sorry, I hope you're more lucky this time.

Just ordered my 27" i7. After having had 2 replacements of the late 2009-model i cancelled the order, this is another try to get a unit without (intense) issues.

First i had the AC-noise-issue, then extreme gray banding, then both combined. We'll see how the new version works out.

Noise :-(

I think my iMac 27" i7 is quite noisy when I play 3D games, or just watch a simple YT video while talking over Skype. When I don't do that, it's all silent, but when I do it, the fans after a minute or two begins making some noise.
I think it's pretty annoying, because whatever I do on my old 24" iMac it NEVER says anything. Please respond to me, telling me whether it's bad or normal.

New 27" i7 iMac

Hi,

Just thought I'd drop back into this thread and let you know my experience so far with this machine.

I ordered it on 15th Aug and it was here on the 18th! Can't fault that!

The machine itself replaces a late 2009 Mac Mini which was the first Mac I've owned. This one is way faster. I've not run any benchmark tests on it but I did convert a movie with Handbrake yesterday. A 60 minute long dvd rip that was sat on my desktop converted to MKV in 30 minutes, I'm not certain but I think that's half the time it took on the Mac Mini. While it was converting was the only time I've heard a fan running all other times its near silent apart for very quiet HD access noise.

The screen doesn't look yellow to me but I haven't really studied it with a plain background, and I don't know if I'll bother. All in all very happy with it so far. Just wondering now whether to drop another 4 gig of ram in it. I'm processing photos as RAW files Lightroom->CS5->Lightroom so wonder if there would be much gain from the extra 4gb

Hope this puts anyone waiting in anticipation for theirs at ease a bit :)

Greg

My machine was perfect out of the box. Great for a week.
Then the newest undocumented feature enabled itself.

Random spontaneous complete shut downs.
No warning, no errors, just *poof* power down.

Is a great feature! Enjoy it immensely when trying to get work done!

Apple Support hasn't been much help.. yet.
The usual SMC reset, PRAM blah blah. None of that has helped.
Is not heat related, can be running games, intense apps, etc. Thing will be fine for hours. Can be browsing the web, IM, email, and it'll die.

It is 100% entirely random and can't reproduce it, but can guarantee it'll happen. Anybody else enjoying this award worthy feature or am I the luckiest person ever?

I'm tempted just to return the machine since it is well within the 14 days. Not sure I want to take a gamble on another one either.

I would take it back & return for a new one.

I don't have that feature, although it sounds awesome. Its sounds kind of like a jack-in-the-box, you never know when its going to happen. Exciting!! Well, your going to jealous, because mine does have this sweet new feature that will make you think your having an acid-trip, which is cool because I don't do drugs and was wondering what it would be like. Check it out.

Hmm, you MAY have me beat.
Apple never called back today as they said they would have the 'engineers' looked over the file they had me generate and send.

However, doing some of my own research, I'm wondering if my random shut offs have to do with Logitech drivers in some way.
