Okay, I cancelled my previous order and got the base model (with wireless mouse). Ordered 4GB of Kingston memory for £120 with free postage. I even got 1.5% cashback from the applestore purchase using rpoints.com! Very happy now:):) I'll let you know what the delivery date looks like when I get the confirmation.

Ah, you should use quidco - the Apple Store cashback is 3%

Doesn't beat my 10% work employee purchase programme discount though!

I ordered mine through nhsdiscounts.com which got me £150 off my total price. Not bad! NHS workers take note :)

I already have some points in my rpoints account so had to use that (you have to get to a certain amount before you can withdraw). 10% back is worth shouting about:D

Back on topic. My new order still says 21st-22nd August for delivery... I suspect choosing the wireless mouse also extends delivery time:rolleyes:

Everyone who has had the email saying they will get them in the next few days, have you choose a wireless mouse. Or do you need to keep the whole sale unchanged?

I got the wired keyboard and mouse because when I changed the option to wireless keyboard the delivery time said 3-5 weeks. I have a Mac Mini in the house so I'm going to order the wireless keyboard and mouse separately and then just plug the wired set into the Mac Mini later on.

I chose the wireless mouse.. I think you have to keep the whole package as unchanged to get quick shipping. I'm not totally certain about this though...

Do you know if the wireless mouse takes up a usb port? i.e is there a transmitter that has to be plugged in or is built into the new imac?

the new imacs currently have a max of 4gb...this is because of the OS???? once fuull 64-bit leopard comes out the ram will be endless and depend on your monies???

or is that incorrect

That is fully, 100%, unarguably, incorrect. The limit is 4GB, and will remain 4GB regardless of all software updates.

The iMac has 2 memory slots, each able to take 2GB. That's a max of 4GB. The Mac Pro has 8 memory slots, each able to take 2GB, for a max of 16GB.

Ordered today :)

2.8ghz option with 2GB Ram and 750GB HDD

Due to ship on the 15th, delivery expected by 24th

I am one happy chappy

My local apple store had the stock models already in, but apparently the 2.8ghz model is online only, hence had to order it on one of the campus machines.

Dude, that's not the right sort of RAM. The iMac now takes DDR2 (sames as MacPro). You've ordered Sodimm (laptop style) chips.

You're wrong...

Mid-2007 iMac Manual said:
Memory modules must meet the following specifications:

Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module (SO-DIMM) format
667 MHz, PC2-5300, DDR2 compliant (also referred to as DDR2 667)

1GB (one SO-DIMM) of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory
Two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB

The memory I ordered is the right type of memory.

Actually the slots support 4GB for a total of 32GB

Not according to Apple...

Eight FB-DIMM slots on two memory riser cards (four slots per card) supporting up to 16GB of main memory

Although I am prepared to accept that the slots actually do take 4GB chips and Apple simply don't sell 4GB chips.

Right you are! I completely missed the Sodimm bit - must have been excitement! Hehe!

I've just ordered the 24" Extreme version :)
Like most people, going to max out the RAM separately!

Weird that Crucial is selling the DDR2 800MHz version i thought this was a waste of money as it isnt fully supported by current hardware?

Actually, I think the current iMacs and MBPs do support 800MHz RAM. However, even if they do it's much more expensive and I doubt you'd notice any difference in perceived speed.

As Apple are putting the 667MHz chips in, and document that as what should be used, I'm not going to risk buying expensive 800MHz chips when I'm not confident they'd work. However, I wouldn't be surprised if they do indeed work.

They'll work alright but you won't get your money's worth i.e. it wont exceed 667 of 800MHz...

Well according to this anyway

Well good, confirms I made the right decision with the 667MHz from eBuyer. A surprising and rare mistake in assigning chips to machines by Crucial though.

I just got an email from Cancom advertising the new iMacs and other things.

They say you can pre-order, but no date as to when you can have it in hand. Still- asked them to contact me when they do. Who's gonna get these babies first? :D

Edit: Oh Apple UK stores have them already?

Um yeah since after the keynote yesternight. Some Apple retail stores have them already
