If anyone wants to know why deflation, as an economic measure is bad, this is it.

Lots of people with knowledge (us) not buying iPads because they see that something better is coming.

I'm one of them. I bought and took back an iPad Pro at Thanksgiving (late November for our friends outside the US) because I anticipated the 10.5ish iPP.

The deflation conflagration is that in deflationary times, people wait for the price to drop before buying, and we're (collectively) not buying iPad Pro's; waiting for the new ones.

On a micro level, specifically tech which has predictable refresh cycles, why is this a bad thing?

Yeah, given the Mac news today these are either announced at WWDC or in the fall.

What does the Mac news today have to do with an iPad event? Im not saying you're wrong because I obviously have no idea, but the Mac news today certainly was not worthy of being announced at any type of event.

In other companies, that is true, but ask a Mac Pro owner about that. 1203 days without a refresh is sadly impressive.
As for predictive, as we can see by this thread, it is anything but predictable. March? No... April? well, we'll see... WWDC? September iPhone event? November?

My point is that we're not (collectively) buying the iPad 9.7 New, and we're all waiting for the next iPad Pro, so Apple is pushing out on that revenue until it comes out.

To counter that point, iPhones are predictable. I think we can put money down on a bet that the iPhone Next will be available to purchase on 9/30/17. You may not get it until Christmas, but you can get on the list.

For other companies, like Intel, they have roadmaps and expected release schedules. Any deviations are explained. Apple doesn't do that, so if they miss a date internally, there may be heck to pay within that group, but to the outside world, it's just a waiting game.

My rationale behind that statement is that the only way there was going to be a Spring event was for Macs and iPad Pros to be announced.

They would've announced the RED iPhone, the iPad and Clips with the iPad Pro event if there was to be one, UNLESS that event was going to be too packed due to new Macs. Now we know there aren't any new Macs. Nothing else is really due for notable updates, so I have a feeling these are becoming part of WWDC so they can clear out old inventory and ramp up production. We shall see!

Makes sense. I mean, they certainly could dedicate an event to upgrading the 9.7 and 12.9 Pro models and announcing the rumored 10.5 iPad, but it does seem less likely with the press release updates they have done recently.

I think something has to be coming as there is no way they will leave there flagship iPad outdated until the fall or even June in my opinion
Idk a June thing is just odd because it's been forever since they did hardware at WWDC. Although it would make since because they would be able to show off whatever iOS 11 is going to bring. I mean I can stomach waiting till June please don't push it out till fall that is too long.

I certainly don't see them waiting until fall for the IPPs.

Their marketing has been super aggressive recently.

You can see iPad Pro ads all over social media.

There won't be any April news. Sept or Oct, people.

As for those that didn't buy the Pro 9.7" last year when the sales were really good, that what happens when you sit on the fence.

Doesn't that mean their pushing what's out now and telling you to buy them, if they were going to announce new ones why would they push old ones?

I checked apple.com for the iPad Pro 12.9 32GB version in NY and every Store (except Apple Store, Fifth Avenue)
says available on 25th of April. 20 Days? I don't know....

He has, but has also been wrong. Apple can be all over the place when it comes to info.

I mean, how can you confirm it if he's been all over the place in the past? You're really going to get people overly excited in this thread with that kind of talk..

All the stores in my area say the same thing. Delivery date range for online orders is April 18 - 25th

^Something strange is happening in that regard. The 9.7" is available immediately but the 12.9" is weeks away.

Hmm, logic would dictate that if an event is coming this month, that the original 9.7" Pro is sticking around, maybe at a lower price point? I mean, there is space for it in the $329 to $599 gap.

I still don't see an event happening this month. Though with Apple making apologies and announcing future products like they have today, I guess anything is possible.

Still plenty of 12.9" iPad pros available today in DC area stores

Right? Apologies and announcing products a year out? Today is a weird day.
