I don't think that the 2017 iPad "ensures" any of that.

Apple released the iPhone SE and it didn't impede sales on the iPhone 7. Look at the flack people are giving the 2017 iPad. Sure, people here are not necessarily typical consumers but they INTERACT with typical consumers. And they're telling them that the 2017 iPad is "old" technology and to "go Pro".

I'm a big fan of the 2017 iPad, but if you can't see that there are significant differences between the iPad SE and Pro (worthy of the price difference) then I don't know what to say.

The market for mobile phones is very different then tablets. Mobile phone are an essential everyday item whereas tablets aren't. Apple just released a brand new iPad for significantly less money. Is it worth spending $300+ for a slightly better screen and processor? I honestly don't know...

It's a little more than that and yes for the people that utilize the iPad as their main computer it very much so worth it.

TBH, if/when there's a cell chip in an iPad, I'm ditching my iPhone. Come iPad 10.5ish, I'll look at using the apps that let me get calls on it to see how feasible it is.

And yes, I use bluetooth with my phone, and no, I'm not holding an iPad to the side of my head.

Hey, Captain Douche, next time why don't you put my full quote? Trying to make me look stupid by taking part of my quote out of context and replying.
"The iPad is basically an iPad Air 1 with updated specs." Guess what, it has the same form factor as the Air 1 and I said it has updated specs.

No worries Private Sensitive.

So when you say it's basically the same, you mean it's basically not the same. Because if we compared phones and tablets based primarily on their physical dimensions, well, I'm sure you can figure out how absurd that would be.

Unless you're saying that the iPhone SE is basically the same as the iPhone 5?

I dunno, that just seems like a pretty misleading statement.

It's literally a iPad Air 1 with a A9 chip and brighter display that's it. Discussion over let's not beat the dead horse anymore

I don't think you know what 'literally" means. No offence. Or you don't know he details of the Air 1 and new iPad. Or both.

It has similar dimensions and similar (perhaps even the same) screen as the Air 1. It's not literally an Air 1. Not even close. Unless we're taking a really high level view, in which case the iPads are all the same in that they're all tablets made by Apple. At a high level that's totally true. You could group an iPad 2017, iPad Pro 9.7, and first generation iPad in one group and screwdrivers of all kinds in another group and say there are iPads and screwdrivers. And iPads are basicallly the same, and screwdrivers are basically the same.

I'm talking about the new iPad vs the Air. The dimensions are in fact identical, as are all the parts inside except 1. Processor 2. Cameras 3. LED backlight 3. I'm not trying to say the iPads are completely identical as they obviously are not but you cannot deny this iPad used off the shelve leftover iPad Air components which is fine since it allowed for the lower cost and a amazing entry level iPad.

Just think about it for a second. That's clearly not true. All you would have to do it look at pictures of the internals and read the specs to know that.

But sure, I'll agree with you at a high level. They're the same, basically. And the new iPad Pro devices will be the same, basically, as the current iPad Pros. Let's just keep it simple.

The dimensions are identical, and it doesn't have a laminated screen. But many things have changed/improved:
  • A9 SoC
  • 2GB RAM
  • improved camera
  • display brightness
  • rotation/mute switch gone
  • Touch ID
  • chamfered edges are matte
I know it looks like an iPad Air, but it's quite literally not the same.

The new iPad is literally an iPad Air with 6S/SE internals, slightly moved rear camera (thanks apple for needlessly screwing with Air1 case compatibility), slightly different speaker holes , slightly farther apart volume buttons (thanks apple for needlessly screwing with Air1 case compatibility), smaller wifi board, touchID first gen, no mute switch, and the "iphone SE treatment" to the chamfered edges.

But I wouldn't jump to the neck to someone saying "it's literally an ipad air with (= BUT WITH, like those youtube memes) updated internals". That's pretty much correct and summarize the steps back compared to the Air2.

You'd think with all that space they would have used a different battery. 6s/SE battery (which one?) seems to be preforming amazingly though. Imagine if they'd gone with an iPad Air battery!

Alright alright I was gonna say the chassis is the same but even there the mute switch is now gone, they're entirely different iPads :D:rolleyes:

Lol honestly, at the least it would have been nice for cases to be compatible.

By the way, seems like another day has come and no invite?

Some of them are. I'm using a Targus Evervu which fits perfectly. But some don't line up properly.

Regardless of what happens I can hold out with my Air 2 but if they don't announce I will need to go spend some $ on a keyboard to tide my productivity needs over till the next Pro whenever the hell they decide to do that.

Me too. Bought a new iPad Pro 12.9 with 128GB for $789 total. I love the size and its specs will make sure its runs great for any future updates for a good long while.

How did you get one for that price?

Traded in some really old iphones at the apple store and got a gift card. I live in Vegas and all the local apple stores still have all the ipad 12.9 in stock. I'm happy with the price and I'm glad I bought it directly from the source. This thing is a beast!

Ugh I'm jealous, what iPad were you coming from?
