When I used the 12.9" for a short period of time, I absolutely loved it but also felt compelled to pick up a mini 4 to compliment it for more casual use and reading books. I kind of settled on the using the 9.7" for everything, but many times I find myself wanting both a larger screen and a smaller one.

I had the same issues. That is why I now own all three. Necessary? No. I do make good use of all three though.

Ill be honest with you, I was very close to sending my 12.9 back and holding onto the Air 2 instead, took me a good 3 or 4 days to love the 12.9(the waste of screen space with the blown up apps was actually incredibly irritating at first)

Thats actually mainly what I want the Mini 4 for, books and portability, Ill be using the 12.9 most of the time though, once you get used to watching movies on that screen you won't want to go any smaller, one bit of advice id give anyone getting the 12.9 is get a good case for it thats gonna make it comfortable to use, it can become quite awkward and unwieldy I find when its naked

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014ZZIKOI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its not as fancy as the Apple one but its very versatile and makes the iPad so much easier to use imo, can't recommend it enough

I was using an Air at the time when the 12.9" launched. I found the 12.9 very intriguing, but I couldn't quite picture using it in the variety of ways I was using the Air (a lot of reading and browsing in portrait, holding it in one hand). Ended up upgrading to the 9.7" Pro when it launched instead. The 9.7 for the past year has been amazing. My use of it is split about 50/50 between sitting on the keyboard cover in landscape and holding it in portrait and browsing/reading. It's incredibly portable, but while using it in landscape on the keyboard for extended periods of time I really find a larger screen would be so much nicer. And while using it in portrait to read books (I love reading) it feels too big to me. The current mini 4 is absolutely fantastic in that regard; it almost feels weightless when you hold it. I was so set that only one iPad should be needed, but just like how many people have multiple Macs, I think I'm going to end up with multiple iPads for different uses.

It's funny, when I was able to use a 12.9" for a month, many apps were updated for the screen resolution, but apps that were just blown up were quite irritating.

In all honesty, I feel like there's excellent use cases for all 3 sizes.

As much as I admire your boundless optimism Gobikerider I've given in and pulled the trigger on the mini 4....happy to be proved wrong(preferably within the 14 day period I might add)
I mean if you wanted a Mini I don't see a refresh of that even happening so you definitely made a good choice.

That's the thing, the one thing I can't get into on the 12.9 is reading books, magazines and newspapers (I have several subscriptions) on their other hand are fantastic on it, I could use it for those all day, over all the 12.9 is the clear winner imo.....but there's a lot to be said for the easy portability and reading on the mini, I played around with my friends a few weeks ago and the thing even fits in my pocket......so yeah, you need both

Yeah I reckon it's very unlikely too.....but what can I say in an optimist too(not quite on your level!) so I thought it was worth holding out, might push the price down further if nothing else

The main thing I'd want from a mini upgrade is better speakers, im a huge music fan so I'd take that over a lot of other features tbh

Hubby just made me a small lightweight adjustable stand for my IPP so I am now considering the 12.9" size providing I am happy with the next version, when that happens. Had been anxiously waiting for the 10.5" but larger screen is desireable for my eyesight and then knowing I had an ipad mini and promptly gave it to my daughter, did not like that small size at all. So with the stand now rethinking for that largest size.

Yup, it sounds like the 10.5 would basically have the exactly same UI sizings as the mini i.e. the fonts would be a the same size. If you didn't like that on the mini, you would be safer with the 0.7 or 12.9 Pros with the latter offering up more on screen at the same time.

I have come across some credible information which indicates that there will be an iPad launch on April 14th.

Do not ask for my source or any proof I will not divulge that information as it will cause issues for me.

You can choose to believe it or not up to you and ultimately we will find out if its true in a couple of days.

2017? 2018?

IF an event was happening this month that would show off a newly redesigned iPad Pro, it would be pretty impressive that there has been zero part leaks for it. Besides devices that share most of the same form factor (iPad, iPhone SE), when was the last time a re-designed product was announced that we had not seen a part leak for?

The person who created this said an event would happen soon... It hasn't yet so much for his "reliable source"

Seems like his source wasn't so credible after all. I wonder what happened to the OP.

I can kind of sympathize with his situation if he was telling the truth (who knows) as it happened to me some years back during the iPhone 3GS days. I was working for a carrier that did not carry the iPhone and 4 months after the 3GS release they received several shipments of iPhone 3GS for internal testing. I remember seeing it with my own eyes and being shocked about it. Most people higher up in the company had no clue it was coming (the logistics behind it all, secrecy between Apple and the carrier were really incredible to see). I anonymously mentioned on some forums that this carrier would soon be launching the iPhone and I was mostly laughed out of the room. The carrier found out that there was some chatter online and they rushed to make an announcement as they wanted to stay ahead of the gossip. Sure enough, within the week they announced that they would be offering the iPhone and within the month it went on sale. Fun times.

Few moments ago I said the same thing about his reliable source can't believe people believed him!
There are people in this thread and a few other threads that STILL believe him. I'm not bothered by that, people with little to no discernment are nothing new.

What DOES irritate me is that they are pushing their blind faith in unsubstantiated rumors on others who are looking to buy an iPad...claiming that it is more than a rumor and suggesting that they wait. But because there aren't currently any sales on iPads (that these folks could take advantage of) it isn't so bad.

I remember in March 2016 people were claiming that there was going to be an update to the 12.9 Pro in April and to hold off. The result: there was no update, and those people missed out on Best Buy and Staples deals for $175 off the 12.9 Pro.

Little or no 'discernment'. Wow, it's awfully grand of you to not be bothered by people who don't share your point of view of every little thing. I think that nobody is pushing blind faith on anything. Nobody is being tricked into not buying now or later or whatever. It's a discussion and in a discussion people will have different points of view. If you had discernment you would see that folks give reasons for their points of view and you and anybody else has the ability to make of that what they will.

How many people still have hope we will see a new pro in April I did just notice that the 12.9 inch current model now says May 5th for delivery were two days ago it said April 16th ..... A month for delivery seems to me something is up as this device is 1.5 years old how could they not know how to produce it by now ... Also they will want the fall to be all about iPhone and iMac and watch and WWDC is software not hardware as it is developer focused conference not consumer..... So this spring still seems like a perfect time for iPad maybe late April new iPad Pro 12.9 at 799 10.5 at 599 and current 9.7 at 499

I still think April is highly unlikely. But the 12.9" having a 2-3 week shipping for a while now has been quite strange.

I knew it was to good to be true, although i still wouldn't have bought one as I'm dead set on waiting for the new models. I'm very excited for the refinements the Pro will bring but nothing i have to have right now.

How does your Pro battery do, can it get you through a day, what's your day look like with it?

I'll be honest - the battery lasts me more than a day. Safari, Netflix, Spotify are the main apps I use.

I´m done waiting too.
In 20 min I´m heading to the Apple Store to (finally) purchase the iPad Pro 12.9 model : )

I purchased one a few days ago. You're gonna love it
[doublepost=1491588914][/doublepost]
I already have the Pro 12.9, it's fantastic, sound quality is so good.......I was hoping a mini pro might pop up(despite zero evidence admittedly)I know I'm not gonna be happy with the speakers on it after the pro but I want a more portable iPad too

The four speakers are really great. It definitely bumps. :D

BUT! It is A Mac RUMOURS forum after all. ;) It's not necessarily believing anything on here but having some hopes a launch was close. Life goes on and I enjoyed the banter if nothing else.:D

I bought mine (iPad Pro 12.9, space gray 256GB)in an Apple Store yesterday after waiting for a while.

Just for the record:

- In case a new model is released within 2 weeks after the purchase you can return your iPad (App Store).

- They didn't recommend using fast charger (29W adaptar + USB-C - Lightning cable). They said you end up compromising the battery life.

- It took me like 40 min to update from iOS 9 to 10.3

Random - it was still on iOS 9?

I really wouldn't worry about causing harm to the battery by using the 29W adapter. There's an excellent thread on faster charging here on MR if you search, a lot of good discussion on the topic. When I used the 12.9 for a while I used the 29W charger with it. Using a 10 or 12W felt painfully slow.
