Interestingly enough, my wife just bought an iPhone 12 (not Pro), and guess what? It’s doing exactly the same thing!

She’s got an appointment tomorrow to have it looked at. The rep on the phone said they had never heard of this issue before!
Very curious about this, as so far, we've only heard reports of it on 12 Pro and Pro Max. Perhaps the stock level for the 12 was such that it took a little longer for it to need to be replenished?

As for the reps, their answers have been mixed, from those who've not heard of this at all, those who know of it but think it's perfectly normal, to some who say it's a hardware fault. I'm hoping we'll hear from Apple directly some time this week.

I am sure it is a software issue. Also no one updates to 14.4, I have never seen such trashy battery life.
My battery drained 20% overnight while in low power mode on 14.3. I've since reset settings and updated to the 14.4 RC and see drain of only 4% overnight. Battery life so far seems OK to me on 14.4.

I think the issue is with iOS 14.3 and Apple has found out about this issue to late for it get get into the new release of iOS 14.4.
On the Apple forum some people have reported going back to 14.2.x from an old backup make the problem go away so I believe it's just the software and part of a bug in iOS 14.3. But we might have to wait for a patch release after version 14.4 comes out because I do not believe the fix is in this release yet, but we will have to wait and see.... iOS 14.4 is suppose to come out this week.

going back to 14.2.x
No one can go back to anything before 14.3 as the signature window is closed. I would discard that info. My speculation is Apple has changed something in the BootRom on iPhones produced at a specific date in some way and hasn't modified it on iOS side which is why it does it this way. In conclusion, this is a hardware issue that is fixable through software.

What did you tell the Genius Bar?
Well the Genius Bar at Apple Store Centralworld Bangkok told me that they couldn't explain this thing as well. They offered me to exchange my phone and they have given me the older stock which has iOS 14.2 and amazing there has been no issue at all. Now, it functions well. The Genius Bar knows there is a problem and they just don't know what's something wrong.

Does the screen come with a clear plastic protector or the one that came when you just unboxed the phone?

The consensus has been that it affects phones that ship with 14.3. Not surprising that your new phone that shipped with 14.2 and then updated to 14.3 has no issues. This looks to be fixable by Apple, we'll see. My phone doesn't experience any other issues at all aside from the flashing logo at start up.

Does your phone shows the logo and progress bar at full brightness while updating? Mine do the flashing logo and also that.

I have the same issue, iphone 12 pro 256gb starting with f17, shipped with ios 14.3

I spoke with apple support (italian one). They run a system diagnosis, no issues.

Then they said they made specifics checks regarding this issue and they told me it's expected behaviour, there is no hardware fault that can impact system functionality and this problem "could" be solved with next system updates.

I returned my launch day 12 Pro in October because of the yellow tint, which (if I remember correctly) didn‘t have this issue.
On my new 12 Pro (F17, production week 1/2021; iOS 14.3 preinstalled) the Apple logo flashed right on the first start after I took it out of the box. The apple logo and progress bar were also very bright when updating to 14.4, but only the first time. After the first reboot during the update the logo and progress bar were shown in a normal brightness.

I don’t really mind this issue, as I don’t have any other problems with it. It’s just interesting, that there are more people out there, which are affected... :)

I think I didnì't understand correctly, so is flashing solved after 14.4 for you? or just normal brightness? I think hight brightness is extected when updating

No, it still flashes when I restart the phone. So the problem still exists.

I just noticed the very bright apple logo and progress bar during the update to 14.4 - but I think this is not related to the flashing apple logo.
