If it's real, then the ergonomics have gone to pot - it's too small (short) to properly integrate click wheel usage.

Totally agree....Please nooooo! Apple. Unless this is the "shuffle " replacement. with the Nano being upgraded to touch pod with wifi--geez I need some speakers on board. Really though want to see iPad. ie touch pod about 5x7 tablet with full osX functionality ($699):apple:

He speaks the truth, just look at the left edge of the hand. Looks blurry for no reason. The hand is not modeling quality either. The iPod itself was pretty well mocked up though.

It's called depth-of-field. That part of the hand is not in focus.

I'd love to see you guys go on and on over an image that I already knew was 100% genuine. I'm sure that you would find hundreds of things "wrong" with it, too

Besides, what the heck does half of a blurry hand have to do with an image being genuine? The hand isn't the part of the image they would have altered, if it is an altered image to begin with. They wouldn't have "mocked up" the hand XD

Exactly, I'm 100% set that the image is fake though, if it came from apple, it would've been pulled by now, but I think what the person has drawn is a seriously decent mockup of what one of the new ipods will look like.

Oh not even close. One, just because the new iPod may have Wi-Fi doesn't mean it will do anything the iPhone will do; there's some gossip they'll enable the iPhone to purchase from iTunes via Wi-Fi/EDGE and this may be all you're allowed to do with a Wi-Fi iPod. Meaning no Mail, no Safari, no communications/Internet apps of any kind. Somebody mentioned wireless sync'ing, but even the iPhone doesn't sync wirelessly. I suppose they could update it to do so, and have the new iPod sync wirelessly as well. But why? It's horribly slow for rich media compared to USB 2 and not only does it not charge the battery, it uses substantial battery power.

But I was just like everyone else without an iPhone: I wanted a feature-complete iPhone spare the actual phone and EDGE data, in an iPod. Until I bought an iPhone. If they do release a video iPod that is an iPhone with everything but the mobile service, man am I glad I went ahead and took the bait and bought an iPhone first. Otherwise I would have gone with the new iPod. The great thing about the communications features of the iPhone is that they don't quit. I'm on my home Wi-Fi most of the time while I work, but I walk out the door and I lose *nothing* -- and it's all transparent, no settings to change, I don't have to touch the thing. When I come home again, it just reconnects itself to my home Wi-Fi, all by itself. EDGE is of course somewhat slower both in real numbers and perception, but not near hair-pulling slow for iPhone tasks (in fact, after I'd heard how awfully slow it was going to be from just about everyone, when I first used it I was like, Wow, this is fast!); otherwise, that's it; it's just seamless: I can do anything anywhere anytime, including an outstanding iPod, without having to worry about whether I'm in range of a data access point or not. That's the beauty of the iPhone, its transparency.

I personally will be let down if the regular iPod looks just like an iPhone. I think it will not only take a lot of the coolness out of the iPhone, but it just seems unlike apple to have 2 different products looking exactly the same. Apple loves being different from others, so I don't think the answer is having two almost identical products that are very different.

If the new iPod is gonna be iPhone minus the phone, I would also expect it to be pretty pricey around $400 for the cheaper version. If this is also true, I expect that iPhone sales will take a big hit because of people being able to get almost the same product for cheaper, while sticking with their current cell phone and provider.

Huh?

Paja,

Why would the price of the Shuffle increase when Creative already sells competitors (with more features) at US 39.00/1gb and US 69.00/2gb w/screen/recording/radio?

It just doesn't make any sense.

As for the standard iPod/Touch Screen, I'd wager that they will remain HD-based for a few more generations, as flash memory is still too expensive.

Even given a 'similar' appearance to the iPhone, it will most likely be the same thickness as the 5/5.5G iPod 30/80gb, though I do expect an increase to 100gb for the top version, with no more than a US 50.00 price increase if any at all.

We'll Soon See...

Why not have a 16GB flash version for $299.99 (thin as the iPhone) and a 160GB hard drive version (thick as the current 80GB) for $399? Then both crowds are pleased... the ones that want something thin and less expensive get the flash based and the people with huge iTunes collections can get the thicker bigger one.

Well it's an extremely poor use of depth-of-field then. Why is the shadow so messed up? The guy obviously didn't have his monitor calibrated right, so he saw that the two different blacks matched, even though they clearly don't.

Notice how clearly defined the edges are on the hand in the above Apple image?

I have a huge-ish -- certainly more than for which flash is reasonable -- and I thought I'd continue using my video iPod a lot more than I have after buying an iPhone. I wonder at what point, in the name of form factor and battery life, Apple says, Well, some of you, you can't take it all with you. The fact is, even with a 160GB HDD version -- which I doubt; I expect the top storage will be lower unless than only choices from the vendor are 80 or 160GB -- with high-quality video involved, you can't really take it all with you now. With the first and now standard Apple TV at 40GB, they didn't even try. That's why you can stream to it.

Many people have a Library like me: I have 40GBs of Music, but would also like a little bit of video and iPodLinux when it comes out for the 6G...I'd be stuck with paying for 160GB when all I really want is 80GB...

Too bad people need to have that phat nano put into perspective before they like it... I could have told anyone from the beginning the clickwheel would be about the same size as the current nano.

Oh well, if it plays video I'm picking one up for sure.

I totally agree with you. I was a bit off on my Shuffle pricing:eek:. Your pricing is probably spot on with what is coming. $39 for the 1GB Shuffle and $69 for the 2GB Shuffle seems realistic. Would love to see $59 for the 2GB. I'd like recording capability on the Shuffle (for quick shopping list reminders, etc.). The competition is getting stiffer for Apple as far as pricing and features go.

I am worried that Apple may go all Flash Memory. Let's hope not.

Recording on a shuffle? How would you manage that on such a tiny unit with no screen and no buttons to handle that?

Consumers don't seem to care about features, iPods have always lacked some features that other units have, and it hasn't hurt iPod sales. I guess those extra features just aren't ones that most people want.

I'd love to see a price drop or capacity boost (or both) on the shuffle. I don't expect any change in form factor or features.

If the new ipod 'Fattie...phatty?' is $150 i am just $43 away! and I think I have a $50 of change in my couch! So, I am excited for the phatty!

It is just a 'shopped version of the current nano with all of the extra space cut out - same screen size, same click wheel... And this guy obviously took the picture himself with his old Apple buds from 4G and iPod minis.

I wish I could track down that image Apple legal made people take down... Google cache doesn't have it.

Anyone?

The Nano picture is fake, it comes from a flicker account full of apple concepts.

Considering the ET picture is still up I doubt its real, unless Apple's legal team doesnt work on labor day.

you know we can only hope to see what happend's in the next few days it wouldn't suprize me if those were to be the exact replicas what other models are apple going to come out with for a new ipod??????? i do believe that this is the new ipod line i can only be 100% sure when i see it

fake.

Could this be it?
Don't think it's real. Apple smart enough not to release something like that. I've heard rumors of a nano iPhone which I think are totally fake. Apple is NOT going to release a nano iPhone! I do think apple will release it's iPod video with touch screen September 5th. I'm not so sure about the wi-fi, just because I don't think apple needs that feature to make it sell. But if they want to throw it in that'd be cool. I could picture people going crazy over that.

Like OMG, this is, like, what I see when I goes to aPPLE.Com! WhOA! I cant beeleeve it!

(P.S. Thought I would just screw with some people)
