Finally... They Got It Right!

I've long thought the Nano to have far too much wasted space both above and below the ‘click’ wheel, making the screen look disproportionately small in comparison to the rest of the unit...

PROBLEM SOLVED!

Note: It does look like a thinner/aluminum-clad Creative Zen V

As far as the 'alleged' new iPod Touch... Unfortunately - Predictable

Note: At least it'll have more useable capacity than my 8gb iPhone.

Could this be the wide screen iPod?

I have to say if the screen reached a little more to the edges and was avaliable in black and white they might have been a little closer to the mark!

If it's true that the interface is changing so significantly, Creative will be royally screwed by Apple due to the reported terms of their UI lawsuit settlement.

I for one hope the list view remains an option for browsing music on the iPods. Coverflow is good for times when you don't know what to play but the list view is faster to use when you are looking for something specific.

The Wide-no in the picture looks cool. It may be fun to load movies on it and take it to friends' homes for viewing. Small click-wheel will be a turn-off for a few people. Probably works fine.

The only issue I have with this ‘information’ is the following:

“iPod Nano - Increased storage capacity, iPhone-like interface, price to remain unchanged”

The competitive landscape has changed dramatically since the 2G Nano was released, and 4gb DAP units are now retailing in the US 100.00 – 150.00 dollar range, so a US 200.00 dollar 4gb Nano just wont cut it any longer.

Let’s hope for something more along these lines:

4gb US 150.00

8gb US 200.00

16gb US 250.00

Mock-up though it may be, it does demonstrate that the new Nano design may not be quite as fugly (in perspective) as we'd assumed.

Here's hoping.

Can't wait until Wednesday!

Looks fine, but...

Looks fine, but I question the docking for this thing. It has an iPod Shuffle connection at the bottom and not the 30 pin connection used on the current Nano. This will play hell with using it on current accessories such as the Hi-Fi unit Apple puts out for it's current video iPod and Nano, not to mention the scores of other things currently available.

I still think that maybe Apple will introduce a fourth line of iPods...
Shuffle, Nano, ???, Touch.

Peace, out.

Last time I was in Brazil, there were gadget sellers on the street showing some MP4 players very much like the one on the mockup.

They imported these stuff from Paraguay and it was a hit due its size and performance. My friend was using it to watch some recorded class while commuting.

Nice, but fake

Here's what I think is coming:

iPod video: OS X, 3.5" WS, WiFi, Flash Memory 8GB & 16GB ($349 / $449)

Pod Nano: OS X, 2" Screen / 4GB / 8GB / 16GB ($149 / $249 / $349)

iPod Shuffle - 1GB, 2GB ($99 / $129)

No More HD iPods (ouch)

A move in the wrong direction at present. Considering that the top end flash memory is at 32GB and no where near affordable for the masses. I believe there will still be an HDD in the top line for some time to come.

The all flash works with the iPhone as it is not a music player only, however for the iPod it is a different situation.

While certainly a Photoshop job, actually seeing it in a hand helps set up some sense of proportion and it is not nearly as ugly as I thought it would be.

If that is what the real next-gen iPod Nano/Mini looks like, it's actually not that bad...

I was discussing the possible new iPods with an Apple employee who was giving a podcasting demonstration at my university and he said Steve was planning on moving to all Flash memory (in laptops and mobile devices) within the next year/year and a half. He doubted, though, it would apply to the new lineup. 16GB could handle many customer's high capacity music libraries let alone any videos they would want to add. We concluded the next major update would be all flash, but not this one.

Also, I think you Nano pricing is a bit high. I don't see it possible that for one hundred dollars more than your nano, you can get a full touch iPod with the same amount of space with WiFi.

What? An all flash iPod lineup? That's a bit silly now. Dropping from 80gb to 16gb? That won't happen especially since Hitachi have 100-160gb (IIRC, including a 120gb) drive ready to fit in an iPod. 160 to 16gb? No way in hell I'm afraid.

I'm predicting-

16gb iPod nano (possibly, don't have much hope actually), new UI, new form factor. 5G games compatibile
120gb iPod video (40gb minimum, possibly max out at 160gb). 'iphone without the phone'. wifi. no camera. no song/photo/video sharing, only sync contacts/data with computer and other users.
New iPhone software update.

A bit of a conservative prediction really

Well you'd be wrong. Not a chance will they get rid of the HDD based iPod right now. Too many users out there clamoring for more space. My MUSIC library alone is 120GB, take on another 1TB of movies and television shows and I'd LOVE to have a 120-160GB iPod as I'm sure many out there would. I don't want to have to pick and choose one or two tv episodes or movies that I MIGHT be in the mood to watch when I go on a trip. I want to take a decent chunk of my collection with me if possible.

No iPod HD

My post didn't mention any 32GB Flash Memory.:)

Maybe there will be another category of iPods with HD's or perhaps the new NANO's will have HD's since the rumors have them being fatter.

New iPod fatNano with 30, 60 and 120 HD. Screen could be 2" or 2.5. (yet lighter, thinner and shorter than the current 5.5G iPods

I doubt the 3.5" Video (Touch) iPod will have a HD. It's the iPhone without the Phone part and comes in Black and White.

We'll see on the 5th.

Yeah I wasn't really sure on this, but saw it on another site. I Just posted it for speculation! Then someone stated this is old and was posted a long time ago! Oh well--)))

Actually I would think that the new widescreen based on OSX would have the home screen look somewhat similar to the iPhone, not look like the old iPod OS screens.

Guess we just gotta wait and see what Apple announces--))) :)

Like I said, I really do hope this design for the Nano plans out. It's cute and would be a hot seller in my opinion.

With the new iPod Touch thing as seen on the MacRumors homepage, I really hope that isn't the new iPod. An iPhone without the phone. I mean, if that is the case, cool. But don't have the design be identical to the iPhone. I think, in my book, that is tacky. Give the iPod it's own design. It is an entirely separate product than the iPhone.
