Picked up new replacement from BB, and it seems to be much tighter. The last one's home button was very "Wabbly" and didn't make me feel good for a $100 case. I saw that the batch number was higher than my last one, so I hope that this one is better.

OK guys so for the heck of it I thought I would try out if the seal holds up against other screen protectors.

For this experiment, I used a spare Spigen Oleophobic screen protector I had lying around.

I applied it to the dummy iphone and made sure there were no bubbles along the sides where the seal will sit on. I cleaned it meticulously also.

Put the dummy iphone in and water test it for 30 min. Pulled it out and shook it to make sure I had the excess water from the ports removed.

Then I removed it, inspected it, and surprisly the inside of the case and dummy phone was dry. The ONLY spots that were wet were along the edges were the seal were.

Upon closer inspection, water made past the outer (clear) seal, but not the inner seal on the front. The back case was dry and no water upon inspecting the back seal.

FYI: When I did an initial test after i bought the case, after I wiped off the excess water, I did not see any water along the edge of the dummy phone when I took it off.

So in summary:

Q: WILL the case work with other screen protectors?

A: MAYBE...I used the Spigen Oleophobic, which is extremely thin, and the inside was dry. However, I'm not confident if it will work with thicker screen protectors, like the Zagg, and especially glass screen protectors.

Q: Do I recommend using other screen protectors after my experiment?

A: NO!....Seeing water slip past the first seal is alarming, and this experiment was done in a water bowl. If you take it to the beach, pool, where the water is turbulent, it MAY not work.

So in summary 2:

I think the tolerance was slighly affected by using another screen protector over the front screen. I guess that's the reason why LP recommends people dont use aftermarket screen protectors as it may affect the "waterproof-ness" of the case.

Thanks for doing that test... it's much better to see actual results than just to speculate. I'm not sure the results are any different than we expected, but it's still good to see it tested.

On a separate note, iOS 7 beta 4 was released a bit earlier today and it appears that they made some changes with the control center activation. It seems much easier to activate the control center in beta 4 with the nuud case on than it was in beta 3... you don't need to get your finger quite as close to the edge of the screen.

Thanks for that info. That was a major factor on if I was keeping this case or not.

On my third nuud and I thought I had a perfect one. Now my voice is barely heard and echoing at times. This case is going back once and for all. Looking elsewhere. I don't want to bother aligning the gaskets, membrane, black rubber to make it right. For almost $100 for a case, it should be problem free out of the box. I gave it three shots and now giving up.

Also just returned my 3rd nuud. I had it for a week and water started leaking through the ear piece. It wasn't leaking when I first got it, I even have videos from dunking it in the pool to prove it.

About midweek, I was washing it with soap and water and somehow water got through the ear speaker. So I tested it with the included case, and it was completely filled with water. I didn't bother with the warranty, it went back to best buy.

I'm not sure what caused it to go bad, but I don't trust it anymore because the seals could potentially go bad with no indication that it doesn't seal anymore.

I recommend to those who end up keeping it, to test the case every so often incase the seal goes bad.

Just exchanged the Lifeproof Fre I bought last week for the Nuud. I couldn't be happier. Call quality is clear and at last, no rainbow effect on the screen protector. The headphone plug cable is really nice.

So this may be a crazy question, but for those that have said they have had leaks with the case. That they noticed it when they were cleaning. How often do you take the phone out of the case? I thought this was a case you were not suppose to take on and off. Could this be what is causing issues?

I never get offended when I take my phone out of the case :D

Seriously though, I thought the same thing. I thought this was really meant to be a daily case that you don't continuously take off and on. This would eventually affect the seals and padding with anything.

Yea sorry for that error. I do get pretty offended when I open the case. But yea I always though taking the case on and off started to mess with the seals. I know the Fre case was only suppose to be taken of 50 times until the back case seal was no good any more. But really why do you need to take the phone out to clean? It should have nothing on the inside. You should be able to clean everything on the outside without opening it up.

They actually did away with the 50 times rule about 18 months ago. They changed materials & said you can remove the case as often as you want... As long as you do regular maintenance & check the main gaskets.

Oh ok, but I can't imagine it is good for the Nuud case to keep taking it on and off. A water proof case relies on seals to keep water out. It seems taking it on and off wears on those, and could cause failures. Look at the gasket that is by the speaker that people keep complaining about. It seems the gasket is in place when the case is put on, but when people take the phone out a couple of times they look it has moved. I just can't see taking it on and off repeatedly is good for keeping it waterproof. I put my case on my iphone, and I have not taken it off once. It seems to be doing just fine. Why would I need to take it off? It can be cleaned while on. Nothing gets behind the case, so there seems no need to take it off.

Mine actually leaked from the speaker port, not any seal that could potentially go bad because of installation. I was cleaning with the phone in the case. I took my phone out of the case a total of 2 times before that, but my point is that you never know when these ports go bad because there is nothing to indicate so. The lifeproof's instruction booklet even recommend that you check it for leaks before and after you submerge it in water. The only way to do so safely is with the dummy phone that they give you, which means you have to remove the case anyways.

The case is supposed to be a rugged waterproof case that's supposed to stand up to the elements. I don't have time to water test it every time I think it's going to rain.

I understand they say to check it when submerged. I think they also recommend or at least they use to recommend not taking the case on and off. When they say check the case after being submerged they are talking about a couple of feet of water or more. Not when it rains or you bring it into the shower with you.

What I am trying to say is. Taking the case on and off is just not good for the case. The seals and gaskets can move when you take the phone in and out. Take for example the back seal. When you pop the back off it can get stuck on the front of the case and pulled out a little. Over time the seal can get stretch out and not seal right. I get that you think the case should be able to handle more since it is $100. I just look at it very different. Yes this is a very pricy case, but once this case is water tested and put on my phone. That is it. It was tested the way I put on the first time, and I don't want to take any chances. Being that it is sealed I have no need to take the case off. I can clean any dust off with the case on. This way I know no seal or gasket is moving.

Hey guys I just got the black nuud case from BB and I must say it's a really nice case. Only issue (I think) is that the home button is very wobbly. Was it made like that??

Yes. It's another challenge for those who have OCD.

Hey guys, first time poster. Thank God for the internet. I stumbled upon this thread when doing a search about sound quality on phone calls with this case. I actually work at Best Buy in the Mobile department, and purchased this case the day we got it in. I had had a Fre case for a couple weeks before, but didn't like it at all. All the smudges/oil spots/what have you between the screen and front of the case were just too distracting.

I have a Zagg Invisibleshield HD on my iPhone 5, and have used the Nuud case multiple times in my pool, shower, and ocean. I've never had any water enter the case. I just noticed today however, that while making some calls to Sprint/Verizon/AT&T customer service, many people told me they could not hear me, and that it sounded like I had put them on speakerphone. Then I called my mom, talked to her for a bit, removed the case, and finished talking to her to ask if she noticed a difference. She said it was hard to hear me at first, and once I removed the case it got much better. I'm going to try the hearing aid option, which I had no clue about.

I tend to take my cases on & off quite frequently. Between the Nuud case, Otterbox Commuter, Mophie Helium, and other generic slim cases; I rotate almost daily. Hell, most of the time I prefer to use no case at all.

Regardless how expensive this case is, I wouldn't think about dunking my phone in water without any type of insurance/protection. I figure, even if the case destroys my phone, I can simply get a replacement phone. And no matter how many layers of protection a case offers, I've seen people bring in cracked & shattered phone screens from all sorts of drops. /My sister shattered her screen, with a case on it, from doing a cartwheel. While I've dropped my phone, case-less, from my pocket riding 30 mph on my bike and nothing happened.

Anyway, here is a short, unedited video while using this at the beach while my sister was visiting. Excuse the ending, big inside joke with my friends about the new Harmony Korine movie.

Since you take it off and on regularly, have you checked the inside "shock absorders" that sit at the bottom around the speaker and the mic? I have seen someone else post that it got moved and was actually covering the hole because they took the case off and on a lot.

The Fre recommends a water test before putting the iPhone in to make sure the case is still waterproof after shipment. How is this checked before using the Nuud case?

Like the iPad Nuud case, they provide a plastic insert the size of the device.

Just got back from a week long vacation in Hawaii with the Nuud and was very happy that I had a waterproof case since we swam at the beach and in pools every single day. Got some great photos and videos because of it. A lifeguard at one of the hotels even asked me if it was one of those Lifeproof cases and how much it cost.

During the trip, I opened the case a couple times and didn't notice any water getting into the case. I did notice the holes for the earphone speaker didn't look even throughout after a couple days but didn't think anything of it since when I opened the case, it was not wet. However, when I got back to CA last Thursday, I noticed my ear speaker was very muffled even at the highest volume. I reset my phones settings back to default and it didn't fix the issue. The next day I called Apple support and they are sending me a replacement phone since it is still covered under warranty. During the process they asked if I had any water damage and I said no...

Saturday morning I used the phone a couple times and still had the muffled sound, but by Sat afternoon the earphone was working completely fine again. I am now assuming water somehow got into the earphone and was causing the issue. I'll be returning the Nuud back to Best Buy this week. My wife had the Fre during the trip and had no issues, so I'd recommend that case if people what a truely waterproof case.

I'm interested in this case for camping. I just wish it was available in more colors like its Lifeproof Fre relative.
