Enough with the pessimism.
Why Not? Is it not convenient to your desire for a new system? :D :p

Seriously, it will come, as there's not much they can do with the hardware. When is the real question, and the anxiety is understandable, even expected. Especially given they're behind other vendors in releasing Hex core based systems (or even issuing an announcement, which would be enough to quell the fear/anxiety levels of those waiting).

I think the June rumor is the strongest. September is just too long to wait.
Personally, I'm thinking later this month to get it out before WWDC and the focus on the iPhone.

Apple runs very lean on human resources, particularly developers (think iPad increasing their workload, and they apparently are rotated from project to project), as well as the ability to do a better job by focusing on one major task rather than splitting one's attention across multiples = haphazard mess (applies to the marketing dept. as well I'd think). Otherwise, it would be after WWDC IMO.

But it definitely can't be held off until September. That would cost them too many sales.

September is only being talked about due to an incorrectly, pretty insignificant piece of information. That being that a processor that is unlikely to be used was coming in September, which was already known and then was incorrectly turned in to a rumour that all potential Mac Pro processors were delayed until September. If you look at how Apple have previously behaved then the most likely thing is before WWDC, 18th, 25th or the 1st of June.

That article was definitely "thin". Unfortunately, it's gotten a fair bit of traction. :(

As per dates, the earlier the better, but I'm hoping they'll have it out no later than the 25th of this month to give users a bit of time to digest information/ do their research before the iPhone release (as those waiting for new MP's may want a new phone as well).

I see the MP market as a planned purchase, not an impulse product. At least that's what I'm familiar with in the workstation environment anyway. :p

Honestly, next Tuesday still does make the most sense. I really see something happening next week, just before WWDC.

Exactly. The Mac Pro is definitely a planned purchase, whereas the "i" Gadgets can be planned purchases OR impulse buys, depending on the customer.

Well, at least I'll be able to partake in the back to school program by the time the new Mac Pro is released. I should be able to shave off a bit off the price by selling off the ipod.

Though I was also considering picking up iWork along with the Mac to save on that as well. And speaking of which, where is iWork '10? WWDC perhaps?

I really look forward to the day that I am not compelled to post in a "waiting for new MP" thread in order to vent my frustrations of waiting. This wouldn't be necessary of Apple would just let some info out once in a while. If they had said August for instance, last February, I could have planned for such. With every week that goes by with no news, it seems excruciatingly long when you have to maintain the allotted funds for so long and not really knowing what is coming, or not. It just isn't a very professional way to market to professionals in my opinion.

I second that emotion. Probably time to revive the "Is Apple serious about the professional market?" thread.

Well done, sums it up perfectly.

+1

About being pessimistic.. I've been on these forums for a while now and primarily because of the Mac Pro and it is the same thing every year around this time.. we are all eager to see apples new top contender.. we then get a little anxious and impatient.. things even get a little ridiculous at times.

But I am with you guys and on your side ;).. I am really excited to see/buy the next iteration. I'm just an optimist and very patient.

Here's hoping the release will please most of us when it comes to specs etc.

Thanks for an interesting thread.

New forum member - longtime Mac Pro user.
Finally HAD to update to new machine today and did so nearly under protest.
Apple Business Specialist, while as friendly as possible - indicated that they new the "pickle" I (and most of you) are in with Hexacore soon to be announced. They indicated they would completely support their BUSINESS CUSTOMERS (which we are) by being judicious with buy-back/re-stocking and upgrading/store credit...depending upon the timing of the announcement.

One can only hope that WWDC or next Tuesday gets here ASAP.

Finger crossed for me and "the rest of us..."

Has there been any leak or speculation as to what the changes may be? I spent since xmas waiting for the revised macbook pro, then when it did happen was a bit dissapointed and changed my plans to consider a desktop and keep one of my newest notebooks. Now i'm waiting for another iminent revision! Gotta laugh though, we all love apple afterall;)

I'm absolutely certain that the 2.66 quad will be ample for my needs, and the expandability of this machine should keep it under my desk for many years, i'm hoping 7-10 yrs.

Any pointers as to what may change and whether to wait or not will be much appreciated.
My uses are apart from the 'normal' stuff, are photographic work, Ap3, Lr3, DxO, NX2, often being used together. No games, but cad and 3d design.

Cheers all.
